Haha. Well, not so funny when you actually DID something similar. Or I had know this girl for quite while and... Well, we ended up playing through Psychonauts, Beyond Good and Evil and Prince of Persia. Well, needless to say I had played my cards completely wrong and today she is my best friend, I guess somewhere I never wanted it to work the other way...
Well, I must say that I enjoyed your post and the dilemma. Well, technically, I guess it appeals "more" to women, than many other games, with romances that are more well-developed and deep than most games, at least they are not as stereotypical as in many, many other games. And I can see how games like GoW, CoD or Crysis would be more appealing to someone who is pumped up with testosterone. But beyond that, I think it comes down to taste and ignorance:
The taste point is easy to make, different kinds of people like different kinds of games. I like all sorts of games, I think the only genre I've never gotten into is puzzle games, that to me seem like an enormous waste of time. But what I love more than any other games are deep, immersive, story-driven RPGs, my aforemention friend, however, finds this genre to be boring, I tried to socialize her with Bioware games, but it hasn't seemed to work.
The ignorant point is that of the casual or blind gamers. Casual, being people who know nothing of gaming, and will get into it playing casual games, never giving the more serious games a chance. The blind gamers are people like that man you mentioned, people who have found their kind of game, and are thus blind to anything opposed to that, whether the reason is sexuality or fanboyism is irrelevant, the point is that they probably never sat down, took their time and actually played different kinds of games, making it hard to know, whether they'd actually like them.
