So true, men don't think, they only rushes to combat to kill. That's what movie is teaching them. Do not think, drink bear, chase women, say stupid one liners after killing someone. If they start about thinking, they will loose all their manliness.

That's an image that some movies and games are trying to brain wash people with it. Just look how Kratos is a bad character, only pisseof and violent. Treat women like objects. At least there are some puzzles in the game, but it's not enough.

Now that was MANLY because a majority of the movie involved a group of semi clad, buff men traveling together, fighting together, bonding and carrying large weapons!!! When that one dude leaps into the sky and gives that gold lame bikini clad foreign dude a nick in the cheek before he gets skewered by arrows. THAT is profoundly heroic. He knows he is going to die, but he still gives that dude a scab!Siradix wrote...

i like to think that our gamers appeal to the story-lover in all of us. We write darned good stories and darned good characters, and when you're playing a game as big and immersive and full of stuff as BioWare games are, you want awesome characters to see you through it all. You want the Hollywood moments, you want the adrenaline and satisfaction of kicking butt and taking names, you want the feeling of being in control of the PC's destiny. Escapist entertainment, gotta love it, no matter who you are.

^ Well, op, there's your answer.
Also, I do feel the emphasis on romance in Bioware's games is indeed a big draw for female gamers, just like over the top visceral combat in God of War is perhaps more appealing to male gamers.

True, it's not only men. It's an education problems. Fundementalist wants a static society were nothing is changing and everything is white or black. It's easier to control people that way. Maybe that guy the OP met was comming from a familly where appearance means everything, even if it will make them unhappy. Fundamentalist like to make feel guilty the people with their strict ideology. Women should love pink color, Men should like blue color. Boys should play with cars and girls with dolls. Men should not show any emotions while women should.

Showing casual interest in your sister's busty barbie dolls is girly. But playing with buff male dolls called GI joes is super manly?
Playing a game where you romance HOT BABES like Leliana and Morirgan is girly, but walking around as a muscular bald dude killing monsters with dangling testicles is super manly?
I just don't get it. Somewhere along the way, things got seriously messed up.

I totally admit, I got the Twilight book for a christmas gift. Stayed up until 4am one night reading up to page 286. lol The tension was delicious! I admit it, I was moderately swooning.
Never fear though, I got over it the next day playing Call of Duty Black Ops.
It was THAT close.
But as Oscar Wilde so aptly said: “This suspense is terrible. I hope it will last.”

O manliness, have you noticed how every male romanceable designed to appeal to women- as in physically attractive, loving etc is so strongly loathed by a subsection of the male forumite population. And always as lame, unmanly, or whiny.

LOL, true. But of course, those were designed for female gamers, which isn't a bad thing. But if you look at Morrigan's clothing, she wasn't design to appeal specificly for women. So my guess is that those choices were quite fair. And again some women would jump on the barricade because she was over-sexualizedé But I wouldn't say that it is impossible to make a character that is appealing to both gender. I think that games like "Uncharted" did right. Nathan Drake is a character likeable by both women and men and Elena Fisher was likeable by both women and men too. It's a good balance without falling in too much strerotypes like a female lead has to be very sexy and must be saved by the male lead. Again Nathan Drake isn't a total brute 'à la Gears Of War' that can be charming to the ladies and kicking ass to please the male players. Maybe Bioware should try to balance it more so will have less complains.

But it's totally fine that you like Twillight, You should be free of liking what you want. The problem would exists if somebody told you that you *must* like twlight because you are female. I must admit I don't like Twillight and I feel very girly.

I meant it more in the sense that girly and maly should not be that narrowly defined. There is so much that goes into making a person, and to determine before hand that some things are girly and some things are manly and these should never mix seems odd when it comes to entertainment.
Sure, there will always be chick flicks and the male equivalent- designed to appeal to a gender, but the second games, and other entertainment are used to seggregate, you end up with this odd situation for everyone. To that man, the fact that the combat in DAO was not as visceral as a FPS or adventure makes it less manly. But to another man, the strategic combat, the epic feel or the romances may have been manly. Who defines the overall manliness of anything?

No, I have not, it's precisely what I was talking about in several posts. He tought that Dragon Age is a girly game because the people around him made him think that romance is only a girl thing, and playing a game like that would mean that he is gay.
