I guess it depends on what you mean by macho. The men I associate with--Marines--are perhaps more secure or something because they're pretty accepting. I know two or three "macho" guys that go to clubs, drink, chase women, work out in the gym regularly, play sports (I could go on), but also play "nerdy" video games.
I think there's a kind of macho that is very insecure and worries about their peer's perceptions. I think there's another kind of macho that just doesn't care because real men play whatever video games they enjoy.
So they consider them nerdy, though? That's my point. Not that there's something wrong with it or something people wouldn't do... but that they don't consider it the equivalent of watching a game or going to a club.
I don't think they do consider them nerdy games, no. It's entertainment. I would be considered nerdy for making videos about video games if they knew I did that, certainly, but just playing a video game isn't nerdy. Playing video games would only be thought strange or out of the ordinary if it was an exclusive hobby. I can talk to a number of the guys I work with about, say, Mass Effect or World of Warcraft or Baldur's Gate or Fallout and it wouldn't really be considered nerdy or weird unless that was my only interest.
