I guess it depends on what you mean by macho. The men I associate with--Marines--are perhaps more secure or something because they're pretty accepting. I know two or three "macho" guys that go to clubs, drink, chase women, work out in the gym regularly, play sports (I could go on), but also play "nerdy" video games.

I think there's a kind of macho that is very insecure and worries about their peer's perceptions. I think there's another kind of macho that just doesn't care because real men play whatever video games they enjoy.

So they consider them nerdy, though? That's my point. Not that there's something wrong with it or something people wouldn't do... but that they don't consider it the equivalent of watching a game or going to a club.

I don't think they do consider them nerdy games, no.  It's entertainment.  I would be considered nerdy for making videos about video games if they knew I did that, certainly, but just playing a video game isn't nerdy.  Playing video games would only be thought strange or out of the ordinary if it was an exclusive hobby.  I can talk to a number of the guys I work with about, say, Mass Effect or World of Warcraft or Baldur's Gate or Fallout and it wouldn't really be considered nerdy or weird unless that was my only interest.

Having to worry about if your Li really "likes you" should be the least of your worries when you're trying to save your country from a horde of darkspawn, dont you think so?.

It is optional content. Besides, a  manly man will so not give Alistair a gift in the first place. Or anyone a gift.

He will *****slap each of his companions, and then joke that the archdemon is cranky because she is on her period or something. Before burping. And scratching his crotch.

LOL ! Yeah, very manly !

I take it your impression of a manly Warden is Oghren, then.

I'm finding it strange that what seems to be the idea of a generic "man" involves scratching his crotch. Does this mean that to be a "man", you should have crabs or some other type of STD?

Optional or not. It's in the game, thats like being given the option in call of duty to give gifts to a squadmate or something which in retrospect would be pretty funny "I picked this flower for you i remembered it was the same flower your mother use to pick".

I think you got slob and manly man confused btw.

I headbutt the archdemon to death and then shared a beer with Ohgren, Zev, and Alistair. Then we used cheese graters to shave our backs, and ground our faces against flat rocks to get our facial hair nearly as sharp and deadly as Duncan's. Zevran didn't have facial hair at first, so he grimaced so hard that he instantly produced some. Ohgren was impressed, but decided to punch Zevran through a mountain anyway, just to be a dick.

Maybe someone mentioned this above and I missed it, but OP, as I read your story, the first thing that popped into my mind was not, "What a [redacted]," but rather, "Whoa, a [redacted] like that is admitting that girls play video games of any kind! PROGRESS!"

Anyway, thanks for the grin.

Now that I have your attention, I will inform you that yes I am a woman, and before you thrust your penises at me in protest for luring you to this topic, I have a story, and a question for you that relates to Dragon Age II and my gender.

To the man who dropped his balls on my counter and proclaimed that
Dragon Age was just not manly enough for him I can say is this...

SHUT UP WOMAN... GET ON MY HAWKE!

Now that I have your attention, I will inform you that yes I am a man, and before you spread your legs and thrust your vaginas at me in protest for writing this post, I have a story, and it relates to Dragon Age II and my gender.

A women that played Dragon Age joined a forum.  For some reason she felt that she needed to reveal her gender to everyone else by starting a thread.   Why did she do this?  Was it to get attention?  Was it an attempt on her part to veil her hatred for men?  Was it because men reject her in real life, and perhaps she feels that she holds some sort of power on a male dominated forum, and is able to get the attention that she so desperately needs?

She decided to take her work to the forum and vent.   Or was her whole story just fabricated?  I wish I had such trivial issues.

To the woman that joined a forum and started a thread about her alleged bad day at work and her estrogen apparently boiling over in misandry, I can say this...

LIFE CAN BE A B*TCH SOMETIMES...QUIT WHINING AND GET OVER IT!

THAT is how it is done, folks.

DAO is as manly as you want it to be. That versatility allows you to be any level of man- the ruthless bastard or the benevolent protector, or the total wimp- your call.

Optional or not. It's in the game,

Clearly to tell the manly men apart from the wimps who would discover it.

But seriously, I didn't figure out how to give companions gifts until my second playthrough. Pity. It would have helped with approval.

I'll head out to my nearest brothel right away so, as I always wondered why people thought I must have been a woman, seeing as my crotch never itched badly enough to warrent scratching in public. Actually I'll probably hit the gym too, pump some iron or whatever the phrase to polish my guns. I will be as manly as Varric by the end of the night! :D

I love the quote at the top of the BioWare tvtropes page (http://tvtropes.org/...hp/Main/BioWare)

It rings very true for me. I love these games for the stories they tell. That's as, if not more, important for me as the gameplay. Some people don't care about that. They just want nonstop action. I guess its kind of like porn...some guys only care for the mechanics and climax, the rest of us want something more. Hmm maybe that's why some players want to romance anything that moves in these games...

I'll get hung for this but what the hell. The OP is clearly harboring a grudge. So Phantom Actuality is not entirely off base here.

What is it Shale says? "Now let us squish something and watch it fountain blood, that is a suitably girlish thing to do, yes?"

History/myth is full of great kings, generals and prophets who had them. None of them were less manly for having them. No man was less manly for having a girlfriend. Or two. No man was ever less manly for being a charismatic leader who charmed, intimidated, persuaded or bribed (gifts) his way into gaining influence and building a strong team.

Or maybe I know nothing of men.
