Greetings.

Before I start, i should say that this game is close to perfection :) although what is the point of making a perfect game, if one bug doesnt let you progress at all right? Well... I dont feel good whining about such a nice game but i am really upset because i have been trying to figure this out for hours, excuse me.

So... here goes:
I am at "Entering Jarvia's Hideout" quest in the part that i know about the finger bone key and i need to find it. So, I wait a bit and then i get inside the "Slums House" where i get "ambushed" by those guys that were supposed to have the bone finger. So, i fight them, and when that guy surrenders, i DONT chose the 2nd phrase (Why did you attack me?) and i kill him. I guess i either forgot to loot the corpses after that, or i couldnt. Unfortunately i cant be sure of that. Anyway, i exit the house, and of course i couldnt find any other way to Jarvia and i wasted like 2 hours in the city. So eventually i came back in the slums house, but there were no corpses to loot at all. So now i cant progress because there is no way to get the finger bone thing.

I can send you the saves if you ask me to, unless this is a known issue of course. I doubt that though, i have been searching for hours but i didnt find a similar problem anywhere.

I watched this video as i was searching for information about the quest:
I guess i didnt / couldnt do what this guy did on 3:34 ...
Please help me play this game...

Thanks.

from what i've noticed, if you kill people, and do NOT loot their bodies fully (for instance, not looting the bone key from the main ambusher), the bodies will stay there pretty much forever.  There's still bodies laying around in the brec. forest that I did not fully loot (this is after 40-45 hours game time)

maybe my game is crazy and does that, in all honesty, i would think the bodies would disappear after a certain time.

i did the exact way you are talking about (hurt him, he pleads, then i said, tell me where she is, and he said i'd rather die or whatever .. then i kill him and he has the key on his body.)  if you forgot to loot the key, and the bodies disappeared, i don't know what else to do other than try to find a cheat to give that specific key to yourself, pretty much SoL at this point...

if for some reason you couldn't loot the body (which i highly doubt, but, eh, it's possible) then there's a bug.

every item in the game has an internal coding ID # and if you could script it right, you could tell it to put that key into your inventory.

another question: is it possible, you DID loot the corpses, and you actually have the key in your possesion, but it isn't showing up somehow?  I couldn't tell from your post, did you go back to the finger bone door and give it a shot?

I don't mean to sound negative, but you said it yourself, no one else has mentioned any issues with this problem, but it could happen.

EDIT: also, i notice you get a quest update once you have the key (and only once you have the key), could you double check the quest journal and let us know if it updated or not?

Ok i have some more info. This EXACTLY the part of the quest:

Entering Jarvia's Hideout

You've learned... [ ] ...finger-bone token to enter. Obtain a finger-bone token and use it to gain entrance to Jarvia's hideout.

I have tried the locked door but i only get (look through the whole) and (Continue) or (Leave) options... I dont have the key, i never looted it or destroy it or sell it to a vendor. I just never got it and the bodies dissapeared OR, it just wasnt on the bodies, because as you said a body will only dissapear if it's empty. I have tried the door like 3000 times and entered the house 3000 times but nothing changes. I have played 23hrs in this save and i just dont want to throw it away :(

By the way, i found one more person that has the same problem, let me find his post and ill link it here.

then i stand corrected :D i think a major problem (may or may not involve you here) is that main quest items should never be allowed to be destroyed

and if you poke around on here:

http://dragonagemodding.wordpress.com/

you may or may not find a way to add a script to add an existing in-game item to your inventory. I consider it cheating normally, but if you seriously were bugged and you don't have the key, you could try some different script methods listed on that site somewhere (reluctant to give the exact link because it technically is a cheat and I really don't like spreading that)

one main's cheat is another man's bugfix i guess :D

Well here is what I did, I talked to the girl by the fire in Dust town, got some info, payed her well, she about Jarvia and how to get a bone finger token. I ran around awhile , couldnt find anymore thugs to kill , I had already been to the slum house, it was empty. I talked to the vendor guy in dust town and got some additional information and a warning. Wondered around abit, decided to head back tothe slum house after this and got ambused, after a conversation I beat him up. He surrendered and I chose not to kill him, the token was NOT on any of the bodies of his buddies. Checked my quest log an somehow I got a key, musta missed something in the coversation.

I'm pretty sure at this point it's a bug.

I've talked to every person in Dust Town, entered the Slum House 35 times. Still no finger bone. No thugs in the slums house. The cripple woman just tells me where to get a drink and some information on branding before I leave.

I'm trapped.

The finger bone is on a corpse after u are attacked when entering the slum house in Orz. If you talk him out of a fight, he will give you the bone

I keep recieving emails from people with the same problem asking how i solved it so im going to post here what i did exactly to help you.

1. In your desktop, right click -> create -> shortcut : for daorigins.exe

2. Right click your shortcut -> properties

3. In the TARGET box add -enabledeveloperconsole (OUTSIDE THE QUOTES!)

4. Run the game

5. Resume, or just load your save.

6. When you are in, hit ~ once. Now you shouldnt be able to walk or move.

7. Hit backspace a few times to make sure nothing is written in the invisible console box and then type carefully (and blindly) the following:

runscript zz_orz_debug

8. Now you should se a debug dialog. I dont remember the steps from that point on but its easy. I think you should just choose plot and skip quest to the point of jarvia.

If something didnt work, post it here, maybe i can help more

If you actually wanna see the quests and not just end up with Jarvia dead get the Additem script
http://www.dragonage...ile.php?id=1131 and open the console ~ after running the game with -enabledeveloperconsole argument:
runscript additem orz410im_carta_key 1
This will spawn the finger bone token in your inventory. This fixes it.
Bioware, you suck big time for this bug. Honestly. I hate you and if it weren't for cheap cheats like these I would have not continued playing your buggy games.
