And give the alicorn competition? The hell you say.
that is too scary to even imagine, tbh. Plus, no idea what soundtrack would do it justice.

Indeed. There's a place for open worlds, but a number of games have used them simply in place of "fast travel" so they become mindless commutes.shantisands wrote...
THAT said, in Assassin's Creed II that I played over the holidays ( yes, i am only on assassins creed 2 *insert shame here*, ) I hated when I had to ride the bloody horse to get to the next town objective in Italy despite the horses being cool . I love open world in some games and some times... but in a game like this where it is perfectly long enough without the hassle of travel, meh.

I know there are some producers that say if you have expensive content then everyone should see it or it’s not worth creating. I don’t know if I agree with that…in fact that’s a lie, I don’t agree with that! [sighs] [MM - I can see their point!] I can see their point too and it makes sense except, especially for people who love playing role playing games, the fact that there was another path that existed, even if I don’t take it, still has value to me.

I feel obliged to respond to this. The only developer that I personally have seen say "you shouldn't develop content that most people won't see" is Blizzard. When they say that, though, they refer to content that people won't see because it's too hard or requires too much of a time investment. Imagine if the entire Blackstone Irregular's chain was so difficult and time-consuming that only 5% of the players ever did it.

When we were initially designing Origins we came up with a temporary name for the world that we all hated [MM - Can I ask what it was?] I don’t remember…it started with a P…

The argument there, unfortunately, quickly becomes 'HEY THERE'S A HORSE BEHIND THAT FENCE. Can I ride it? What? I can't ride horses! This game is stupid!' If you show players something that they can't use (that would make some logical sense for them to use), they're going to wonder why they can't use it.

In earlier Ultima games, you could ride horses. They were tile-based, so that was easy. Ultima VIII was in a different setting, so horses didn't matter. But in U9 suddenly they were back in the original setting, which had horses you could ride, but a 3D game where riding horses was a huge problem.
So they killed all the horses. They created some back stroy about how a tyrannical lord had ordered all the horses hanged, and throughout the world you'd see oversized gallows with horse corpses swinging from them.
Problem solved.
