Greetings,

Recently bought ME2 from the recommendation from a freind, and i have a problem thats driving me nuts and cant find a solution on your forum. What it is, the mouse and keyboard do nothing  the cutscenes
play very well, but  the mouse and keyboard do
nothing, well almost, can aim and fire and the escape button works.... updated to patch v1.02.

my specs are

Win 7x64
4 gb ram
nvidia geforce 8800 gs
AMD athlon x2 5600b 2.91Ghz
247 Gb of free HDD space
windowsUSB optical wheel mouse

Any help would be gratefully appreciated because i was really really looking forward to playing this game!

Many thanks in advance :D

P.S. Dont have any problems playing other games like STALKER- CoP & Clear Sky, Fallout3 & New Vegas, Football Manager 2011 etc.

I'm a bit confused. If nothing but aim, fire, and escape button work, how did you get through the opening mission and pick up a pistol so that you could determine aim and fire work?

BTW, do you use the QWERTY keyboard layout or something else?

Hmm, at what point in that mission specifically? I assume the keyboard worked at least long enough to get the pistol out of the locker.

Since the ESC key works: Perhaps you could try going in to options & key binding, and telling it to reset the keys to default, when this happens? Unlikely to work, but who knows - strange bug, it might have a strange solution. :)

I dunno if it was the 2nd mission, but it was right after the meeting with the illusive man, got off the ship with Miranda and the Biotic (forget his name).....from that moment on couldnt move, oh, just hit me, could give orders to the sqaud!

I shall try the keybinding tip now.

Hrm. Well, the best I can suggest is a re-install. (Or verify the game cache if you bought on Steam.) I wouldn't expect something so specific from file corruption, but I don't know what else to go to given other games are fine.

Given that this is the forum for game owners to help each other, comments like that wont really help your cause, as it leads people to think you are more interested in whinging than trying to sort the problem out.
That said;
Are you running any third party keyboard and/or mouse software?
You can also check your mouse optins, like pointer trails, hide cursor while typing, mouse pointer schemes and the like.
Did you install the version of directx that came with the game (9.0c), or did you assume because you were running a later version that comes with Win7, that you didnt have to? ME2 specifically requires DX9.0c. It can work fora while with later versions, but you can expect difficulties.

Do you have anything activated for your cursor? mouse trails or an animated/altered cursor for the mouse pointer?

This sounds like a symptom of "hide cursor while typing" in the mouse options. It normally isnt enabled by default, until you install a word-processing package, then windows tries to be helpful by enabling it. Happened to my machine. I played ME2 fine, installed Office on my games machine as my work laptop suffered a hard drive meltdown, and then found myself in a similar jam. Other games (Overlord 2, Bloodbowl, Fallout NV  etc) worked fine, just ME and ME2 were affected.

does it have to be Office? or would any WP program do?

Not sure, it depends on how much the other WP package hooked into the mouse configuration.

Here is a screen shot of my mouse option. Ive highlighted the option you should look for, and disable if it has been enabled.

Note: I'm running XP, the options could look a bit different under Vista or Win7.

Update video drivers; try toning down the graphics settings to absolute minimum for the sake of a test.

If doesn't help, downgrade them. Preferably to something prior or around to version 220 from nVidia. Seen somewhere the game uses the GPU for input processing, so I'd guess something around it misbehaving now.

Which means my other thread with my ****-eyed theory on 64 bit versions of windows being somewhat to blame for weird and wonderful errors is looking less ****-eyed.
