The site blurb suggests they were once dwarves.
Does this have to do with golems? Did Caridin screw up a couple of test subjects and subsequently set them free? Or are they something completely different? Maybe something Fade-related. I know, dwarves aren't supposed to come into contact with the Fade, but that's where the big twist would lie.
The blurb makes it sound like undead dwarves. The name implies it too since it is a wraith.

I demand to be able to hump the giant murderous ghost-dwarf-statue thingamabob, Bioware. It is vital to my enjoyment of the game. Do not disappoint me.

i like how the concept shows that it can manipulate rock to have different forms like the blade arm, mace and shield, big shield(or big blade) and a sphere of spikes.
i wonder if it's the same model that shapeshifts or that there are different variation of wraiths.

It would make a pretty awesome boss if it could shapeshift.nightcobra8928 wrote...

Looks like different stages of a boss fight to me.

what alkso could be: The first one shows the thing as you approuch it probably, then when he sees you he assmebles the rocks as in the second pic, the third one shows I think the Rock throw attack many golems have, the 2nd I dunno, maybe a defensive move and the third propbably could be similiar to the keepers thorn attack when you get clos that it smashes you away...
or it is as you said simply modes like Shale had...

Additionaly, i wonder who is that strange man near Varric. His clothes give me some japanese or anime vibe, but i am not entirely sure.
What a coincidence. Last time I laid my hand on a Warcraft-related game I saw alot of relatives from Warhammer universe. I guess it's a small world, right?
Nvm... Why am I feeding the troll? Someone slap me...<_<

Why is the ranged attacker between the monster and the melee fighter, instead of the melee fighter in the middle?
Varric is that badass.

On a related note, how is it even possible for dwarves to become undead if they have no magical ability? Let alone possessed by demons (see the calling), seeing as they have no connection to the fade. I was under the impression that all 'undead' beings were merely things possessed by demons or actual demons. It seems like there's something vital bit of info missing.
