Why is the ranged attacker between the monster and the melee fighter, instead of the melee fighter in the middle?

Varric is that badass.

hmm, the description reminds me of the Gangue Shade from DAO (you know, the shade you could confront in the Dead Trenches by clicking a statue with full Dead legion armor equipped?), which too was said to represent the 'corruption' in the stone.

On a related note, how is it even possible for dwarves to become undead if they have no magical ability? Let alone possessed by demons (see the calling), seeing as they have no connection to the fade. I was under the impression that all 'undead' beings were merely things possessed by demons or actual demons. It seems like there's something vital bit of info missing.

dwarves can be *forced* into the fade though...might be something to do with their lyrium resistance, besides we fought loads of dwarves spirits in ortan thaig and in bownammar.

I agree that the concept art looks better than the finalt result... I really would have preferred some Great Golems drawn by black magic or smthg... Sadly, this doesnt do much for meee....  Posted Image

The Strider is an awesome and frightening creature, though. Wish there could be more monsters like that...

Ack! Cannot be unseen. It'll be more difficult for me to take this hunk of rock seriously now.

It’s weird, all the concept art from DA 2 looks great, hence the final in-game screenshots are not totally convincing.

Probably because the pics they give us aren't final version.

Just a thought.

Man the concept art is better than the in game screenshot.

I agree hhh89, it does look human reaperish (could be an easter egg)

That's just it, though, how could all those spirits exist? And how did a dwarf in ortan thaig bargain with a sloth demon, thus becoming possessed? Unless a tevinter magister visiting the dwarven thaigs now and then suddenly decided to try and force dwarves into the fade so they could get possessed, I don't see how it works.

Hope your right. There is not much time left till the final release. Posted Image

As mentioned before, the Strider - we know from Witch Hunt - is an excellent example for a neat monster. IMO

It's nice to want things to be true.  Unfortunately, this close to release, I would wager that this is the final version.

even if they're ghosts however, these dwarven spectres are still in the mortal world and not in the fade.
just because they can't (normally) enter the fade doesn't mean they can't manifest themselves after death in the mortal world.

IMO, thats been the case with most of the DA2 stuff we've seen so far- the concept art is decent but once you see the in game versions its rather "meh."

But I'm just waiting for February when they probably/hopefully start showing some DX11 screens and can hopefully see the graphics in a more polished state.

Dear Bioware Marketing Team,

While it is always.... interesting to see the cool monsters that are going to be in DA2, I am curious if you plan to reveal more about places and characters in DA2 anytime soon?

No rush or anything, but I am assuming Mr. Rock Wraith here, cool as he looks, exists to be ...killed because he is not going to talk, be a companion, give me a quest, or be a merchant. That limits the interaction.

On the other land a new city, a new NPC, or even a new companion? That has more...long term prospects. Would you please consider that for your next reveal?

The quality of the screenshots varies quite a bit. It is like Bioware is just randomly taking shots of every build and throwing them out there all at once.

If that’s true. I’m not sure if that is a wise move from BW.

I wouldn't be surprised if the screenshosts are from different builds. I imagine some locations, characters, monsters, etc. are finalized in some builds and not others.

I find it interesting, especially thematically. I hope the Deep Roads in DA2 is less just darkspawn and more haunted with haunted ruins, eerie sounds, mysterious of the past to be uncovered, etc.

I thought that their lyrium resistance made them impossible for them to learn magic... and enter the dream realm normally, going by the fact that they can become spirits and sometimes demons... it can be assumed that, if it wasn't for the lyrium resistance they could be mages as well... Even though the dwarves might believe that they return to the stone doesn't make it necessary so, so maybe becuase they are lyrium resistant they often can't enter the afterlife and thus remain in spirit form possessing Rocks, like some other spirits are known to invade trees and such...

But an enemy still represents the game. Just because you can't sleep with it or befriend it doesn't mean it isn't important.

I didn't say he wasn't unimportant, or I would have criticized the update. I merely requested, that they consider a character or area reveal the next time. The last character reveal was nearly a month ago, and the last area reveal even before that if I recall. You spend more time with people and in areas so that gives me a better sense of the world than a monster who is found in just one type of area.

That was all.

Am I the only one who likes the design? Red skulls kick ass.

Anyone else think of this being related to Varric's personal quest when they read the info? After all Varric's job does including listening for rumours and such. Perhaps something happened to his brother.

Doubt it, about 2 months left for a AAA title which will have global distribution and I'm sure a serious advertising campaign, I'm sure the game is all but done especially when you're talking about things like creature design and models.

I find it interesting, especially thematically. I hope the Deep Roads in DA2 is less just darkspawn and more haunted with haunted ruins, eerie sounds, mysterious of the past to be uncovered, etc.

I hope it's not, the idea just doesn't seem to fit well with me. The notion that what was essentially the pinacle of Dwarven society was completely swarmed and conquered by the Darkspawn and everything the Darkspawn have done to it and to the Dwarves who could not escape their wake is both mysterious and haunting enough and in it's own unique way. Adding another layer to it, especially one as overplayed as "haunted underground ruins" kind of lessens what is already there.

Possibly; but to me that would make it too much like the situation in golems of amgarrak

maybe something like:

the deeproads stone walls are containers to every dwarf's spirit, but every once in a while a dwarf's soul has lingering attachments from his life and leaves the stone to roam and wander the deeproads in search of it's purpose, battle, or rest.
