the collectors are the survivng faction of the protheans, they mutated uner the direction of the collector general in order to better fight the other protheans, the collector base was the reason that these protheans survived it was their escape plan. and in fact the sole reason for their survival. they abduct people in oredr to create a super weapon to further their war "this war being against the council".
As I said legion is a geth plant, there are no heratics he only told us that to further his position
On the position of the so called "dead reaper" as i said this repeats itself throughout time, each race building on the lasts technology. The original race the keepers created the citadel and all mass relays. But as all races do they destroy each other once they reach a specific point in their devolpment. The geth seeing this as the flaw of all organics, subverted the collectors and captured soveriegn the super weapon that destroyed the protheans
