Hello, all !

I recently got my old NWN2 DVD out of its dusty box and re-installed it. Quite quickly, I was bothered by the buggy AI and other stuff until I remembered the few mods I had installed back when I first finished the game. So I just spent a few hours and went through many web pages to find the best custom content available, and came up with the list I wanted, but I have a few doubts about the compatibility of it all.

- Reeron and Trekari's Spell fixes and Improvements 6.03

- Tony K's Companions and Monsters AI 2.2 (version compatible with Charlie's UI)

- Drammel's Tome of Battle

I also read this thread, which increased my doubts about overall compatibility.

So my questions are : will everything work smoothly if I install those ? Can they be made to run smoothly, simply enough for one such as poor me who has never been good at developing  ? I have seen other packs that included some of those mods, among other mods that did not really interest me.

Well, thanks to any of you who might take a little of your time to answer me.:)

Edit :may I add the same question about a few more mods, although they are less important :

- Either the Rod of Preparation, by LostCreation, or the Rod of Fast Buffing, by Loudent. Which works better ?
- United Colours, bu Gaoneng
- Official Campaign Tools and fixes, by Kamiryn
- Less obstrusive Spell buffs, by clubok

Those were found on this thread.

It's doubtful that they'll all be compatible out of the box, but even if they're not, it's not that complicated to make them compatible, and you don't need to be a developer to do it. You just need some patience.

The problem is with 2DAs, which is what the toolset and game use to link in-game objects with files. If two authors publish content that modifies the same 2DA, you need to merge their entries into a single 2DA. I'm sure there are tutorials out there on how to do this, but suffice it to say it boils down to editing a text file and updating blueprint appearances in the toolset, if you end up having to move lines around. Anybody can do that!! :)

The problem with scripts is similar conceptually, except you're dealing with two scripts trying to use the same event hooks. I suppose it's possible that there could be functional conflicts, but there's a good chance there aren't if the two systems are coded well. There's ultimately only one way to find that out.

just looking over your list, True
I don't think you'll have (much any) difficulty with those. I don't use Drammel's, which I've heard great things about (using Kaedrin's instead, tempting tho).

you may know this already, but conflicts to look for will be duplicate files in Override. As çiphér mentions .2da's can often/sometimes be merged and a basic understanding of scripting can easily allow merging of .nss files.

edit - forgot to mention that .xml files handle the GUI, similar applies (may also be found in the ui subfolder).

ps. just noticed that ToB is compatible with the PrC Pack - is this so?

@ OP:
Drammel’s and Tony K’s packs work just fine together. Note however that the AI has no clue on how to use the manoeuvres, stances, etc.
Reeron & Trekari’s pack is not compatible with Drammel’s due to both packs modifying the same .2da’s and scripts.

Now, they can be made to work together. Merging .2da’s is fairly easy if tedious; as both creator’s used the reserved .2da ranges, there’s no overlap so it’s it’s just a matter of copy-pasting.
The scripts form a slightly bigger challenge; but it’s still nothing seriously difficulty, but again just tedious work as you go over each script in detail.

@ kevl:
Drammel released a compatibility pack for Kaedrin’s PRC pack. However be aware that those files are for Kaedrin’s v1.40.3. Kaedrin is now at v1.40.4. Using the both packs with the compatibility pack still works fine, but you’re practically playing with one version earlier of Kaedrin’s.

Thanks !

So I looked up a tutorial on 2da merging, and came up with this supposedly neat tool, by Loudent, and this tutorial on the old NWN2 forums. So I guess I'll have to work from here.

Happy modding and gaming, folk !:wizard:
