1. What is the nature of the problem you are seeing?
Game does not start after release date check. Reinstalled several times, no luck. After release date check loads, the window closes and the game does not start up, even after starting the game again through the launcher. Worked on my Windows XP computer before I switched.
2. When did the problem start occurring?
This morning upon finishing installation, after launching the game and letting the release check do it's thing...which didnt even give me a result.
3. Where does your problem occur?

4. What are the steps in replicating the problem?
Installed installation folder from direct2drive.com, installed the game, clicked Play on the Launch menu. Allowed the game to run as adminuistrator. Online Release Date Check window pops up. I click accept to continue. Release check status bar loads all the way and the window closes. Nothing further =(
5. Have you modified your game in any way?
Not at all. I tried updating a few times with the new patch but it wouldnt even patch it without getting an error: unable to access binaries or something like that...

bump :< I reinstalled the installation file. Going to try and see if it will work different through the D2D game manager...

I tried running the game through the game manager, same thing. I tried applying the patch as well and got this message:

Mass Effect 2 Update Setup



Error opening file for writing:



C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Mass Effect 2\\Binaries\\MassEffect2.exe.



Click Abort to stop the installation,

Retry to try again, or

Ignore to skip this file.



Sooner I get this resolved the better :<

My best guess is that this Release Date Check program is not getting administrative rights, and this is holding it back.

I'm not experienced with dealing with UAC, but here are some possible solutions:
-Identify the executable that's running this check, and give it admin rights too.
-Re-install ME2 somewhere besides Program Files, e.g. C:\\Games\\ - from what I've heard, Windows is especially protective of Program Files.
-Turn UAC off while you run the Release Date check. (Just make sure to return it to where it was afterwards, don't blame me if you don't and something bad sneaks through. )

Just out of curiosity, what is the "Release date check"? Is it part of D2D's download management software? If it is, its a problem you will have to take up with D2D. It doesnt sound like part of the standard game.

I have the disk version and have never seen anything like that pop up.

I have this problem as well, its April 2011, have ME2 from D2D (useless support) and cannot get past this online release date check problem. I run XP Can anyone help, please keep it simple!

I got the same problem but i did not bay it from D2D but from the EA store. So the people who bought it from D2D are not the only one who got this problem. Is there any solution to this problem?
