I think it has been confirmed that mage hats have been redone to look not as "silly". I'm not exactly sure Bioware has the same grip on what "silly" is as they used to with some features of the new art direction...

I was just going to post about the mage headgear! It looked beyond silly in DA:O, so I either left it off just for these aesthetic reasons or waited until I got Arcane Warrior so I could have a cool helm.



So I hope both mage robes and hats look better in DA2. And I agree that it'll be better if light armor looked varied

They seemed to realize that that hats in Origins were pretty ridiculous, and that they'll be better in DA2. Still no clue how they'll look though.



I think Mike Laidlaw said that there were more armor models all around. Hopefully he just didn't mean more reskins of the same type of armor.

I always assumed that ,making them wear ridiculous hats was just one of the ways in which the Chantry humiliated the mages.

How hard is it to make a cone-shaped hat with a wide brim?

Evidently, super hard, because I've never played an RPG that let you dress like Gandalf, Elminster, or even a gorram Black Mage.

Not so hard if I remember correctly Dungeon Keeper 2.

They're hoods, mostly. I've seen a few skullcaps as well. No pointy hats, though.

For myself I would like to see mage hats to be mainly hoods, circlets, masks (be especially appropriate for apostate mage), a combo of them, etc.

I love hoods, and there was only one semi-hood in Origins. I'm pretty shallow in my video games, so that may solidify my first choice of a character as a mage.
