Alright, my set up... since this summer I've been running Dragon Age through Steam (where I bought it) on Windows on my Bootcamped MacBook. Everything ran beautifully. I bought DLC, had everything installed, and everything worked.

Here's what happened:
I got an external hard drive. So in order to store all my games and free up space, I moved Steam and everything therein to my external. And everything was working fine for a couple days. Then I guess I made my mistake; I deleted Dragon Age from my internal. Now the game (running off my external) tells me that (almost) none of my DLC is authorized for my account, and therefore I cannot load my current files.

Is there anyway I can make everything recognize that it is still my account and still my files so that I can access my DLC?

It's because the DA Updater Service thingee still points to the old install location. Stupid thing does it even if you delete and re-install the game, and there's no "proper" way to change the path in Windows.

What you have to do to fix it is edit the DA Updater path in your registry:

1) Click your Start button and run "regedit"

2) Find the DA Updater Svc in:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
SYSTEM
CurrentControlSet
services
DAUpdaterSvc

3) In the right frame, double click on ImagePath

4) Change the path from where your old DA install was to where it was now. Ie I changed mine from:
c:\\Program Files (x86)\\Steam\\steamapps\\common\\dragon age origins\\bin_ship\\DAUpdaterSvc.Service.exe
to
d:\\Steam\\steamapps\\common\\dragon age origins\\bin_ship\\DAUpdaterSvc.Service.exe

You MUST keep the exe on the end (ie not just folders) or else this will not work.  I've never tried this on a bootcamped Mac, but it absolutely did the trick on my Windows 7 PC so I imagine it should work fine if you're in the Windows shell.

Awesome. That worked perfectly.

Thank you so much!

Edit: Related adendum: Will I run into the same problem with Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2 when they get the same treatment?

I really don't know, sorry. I bought my PC versions of ME 1 & 2 as backups; with ME I'm a 360-first player.

But uh....good luck in any case :D

I had the same problem.. but to my dismay I realised that when I upgraded my comp from its already awesomeness I had to do a install of windows onto my new primary drive thus removing my reg' info so now I have to reinstall the whole think.. and most likely the same with ME2 ... doh.. but thanks Digi' your response was the most helpful I found out there.

What do you do when you install to a new computer after a while and nothing is registered to the account you made a year ago and the promo code you already used can't be entered again because it was used on the last computer?

I used a promo code, now I have nothing associated with my account and the code is "used".

You contact EA technical support directly.   Go to support.ea.com and explain the situation.  Have the key to your game handy.  "Promo codes" are not specific to computers, they're specific to online accounts.
