So this time, even if we buy the full retail, but non-Signature Edition, game brand new from a retailer, we have to pay extra to get Shale.

Fantastic.

Unless you pre-order before the 11th, that is. Which is, in fact, a period of time inclusive of now.

Just sayin'.

With all due respect Mike, is this an old build? Will the final game have better graphics than that?
Or perhaps just the cutscenes will feature low res graphics. The in-game shots look good, but this was a bit jarring to see.

So we're definitely getting another male companion.

Male mage, male mage, male mage... *fingers crossed*

And another female.  They're both probably mages since none (besides Beth) have been revealed yet.
Sebastian looks interesting, I love the armor.

In truth, we only have Isabela and Aveline, Bethany and Carver haven't been announced as fully companion, and the mages Hawke will not get Bethany.....I think that of the two mages that (probably) are in the game one will be male and one female (Merrill?), maybe we'll have another female companions othere than this two....

Indeed. Just throwing it out there.

The discussion in this thread: http://social.biowar...1/index/5371094 is most interesting (of particular interest to those who love to speculate wildly and with gleeful abandon is where someone notes that certain parts of the translation were corrected by BW folks, while the Merrill information was not.)

they have, one preview specifies you can build a relationship with your sibling and pick the rivalry path with them..if they were just temporary I doubt they'd have mentioned that

Bear in mind we have very little idea of how the game will pan out over the course of 10 years. If they wanted to have a party member leave abruptly in some kind of twist half way through the game, they're hardly likely to make it obvious they have something like that planned, by not letting you develop a relationship with them while they are in your party.

Do pre-orders have to be done online, or can I walk into a store and pre-order? My Best Buy employee discount doesn't apply to online orders, and I like me discount.

well yeah but just because wrex can die on Virmire that does not mean he is any less of permanent companion than say Tali

Sweet.  The dwarf originis and orzammar quest lines were my favorite part of the game.  Pleasure to meet you.  Looking forward to hearing Bethany now!  :)

Well, Mhairi got a few approval points before she failed the joining. So that might not mean anything.
I still think 2 full family companions would be too much work with 2 classes getting Bethany and only mages getting Carver.

Indeed. In fact, the writers have even spoken directly to people claiming she's a companion, and while not confirming it, did not refute it.

We're pretty even on the girl/guy ratio.

Aveline, Isabela, Bethany, Merrill.

Varric, Fenris, Sebastian, Carver.

Also, I hope a non-human companion is revealed at some point. I think we have, probably two more announcements to go, as I don't "count" Sebastian.

Or let's see, Wynne, Zevran, Orghren, Sten, Leliana....they were all companions with potential temporary status, only one that was permanent was Alistair....

So I would hazard a guess that yes, our sibilings (either Bethany OR Carver) are going to be one of the companions we can take with us.

Okay, this is awesome.

I'm not even talking about the character, though he looks cool and all (and Scottish accents are among my favorites).

I am just blown away by the cinematics though. From the camera angles to the subtle animations (like Sebastian motioning with his head towards the flyer he just posted when he says "these assassins") to the use of props. The latter was something I was really curious about, since it was sometimes a bit jarring in DAO, to be honest, when people would be referring to an item but you'd never see it. Sometimes it was just a "here, take this" while seeing them from the shoulders up and going "okay, I guess that sort of looks like he handed something to me."

But the worst incidents included the "decoder ring" Genitivi used to open the doors to the temple in Haven and the gem in the Elven ruins where you can get the Arcane Warrior spec. One better but still limited use was in Witch Hunt, when you're talking with Ariane in the Circle tower library. The open book is sort of pasted there, and you can pretty much tell no one's actually holding it.

But everything here seems so...natural. Not just the paper and the arrow sticking it to the wall, but even in how he is holding is bow for his last line.

The only thing I care about with regard to this character is that all his game content is available at the release of the game and, unlike Shale, you have to pay for it unless you preorder. If we were getting it the same way we got Shale then I wouldn't care. But the way it is now, it's scheister job. Before anyone starts pointing out to me how easy it is to get him for free I want to point out the distinct but small difference between how he is packaged and how Shale was packaged. This is the frog in the pot of slow boiling water and you are the frog.

I'm not entirely sure how that's relavent. Who said they'd do something like that again? I could just as easily throw out Jenkins as an example: you could invest talent points in him at the beginning of the game ... to not let you do so would have been akin to putting him in red armour - "oh look, he gonna dieeeee".

No matter where along the timeline of the story a character may or may not leave the party for one reason or another, to treat them any different from party members who will have a more fully fleshed out, or permanent, role would be like hanging a sign around their necks that says "don't get too attached folks, because something bad is going to happen".

It really does look great. That was a damn fine video. If only the sound on my PC was working, I need to hear dat accent.

This convinced my partner to go for the Signature Edition now, so good job, BW. <3

What's with all the funky looking armor in this game? I suppose it makes the characters look unique, but it still makes me lol.
