Indeed. Just throwing it out there.

The discussion in this thread: http://social.biowar...1/index/5371094 is most interesting (of particular interest to those who love to speculate wildly and with gleeful abandon is where someone notes that certain parts of the translation were corrected by BW folks, while the Merrill information was not.)

Indeed. In fact, the writers have even spoken directly to people claiming she's a companion, and while not confirming it, did not refute it.

We're pretty even on the girl/guy ratio.

Aveline, Isabela, Bethany, Merrill.

Varric, Fenris, Sebastian, Carver.

Also, I hope a non-human companion is revealed at some point. I think we have, probably two more announcements to go, as I don't "count" Sebastian.

I forgot Aveline... where has Merrill been confirmed?

So far we have as companions:
Bethany: Human Female Mage (if Hawke isn't a mage)
Aveline: Human Female Warrior
Isabella: Human Female Rogue
Varric: Dwarfen Male Rogue
Carver: Human Male Warrior (if Hawke is a mage)
Fenric: Elven Make Warrior

So if we were to get two of each class.....(I recall seeing that somewhere on the threads) looks like we're missing mages....and I'm hoping for another non-human companion also....but I'm thinking we need another human male in there as a non-DLC character....otherwise FemHawke for LIs will be reduced to non-human interaction unless she's a lesbian.

Okay, this is awesome.

I'm not even talking about the character, though he looks cool and all (and Scottish accents are among my favorites).

I am just blown away by the cinematics though. From the camera angles to the subtle animations (like Sebastian motioning with his head towards the flyer he just posted when he says "these assassins") to the use of props. The latter was something I was really curious about, since it was sometimes a bit jarring in DAO, to be honest, when people would be referring to an item but you'd never see it. Sometimes it was just a "here, take this" while seeing them from the shoulders up and going "okay, I guess that sort of looks like he handed something to me."

But the worst incidents included the "decoder ring" Genitivi used to open the doors to the temple in Haven and the gem in the Elven ruins where you can get the Arcane Warrior spec. One better but still limited use was in Witch Hunt, when you're talking with Ariane in the Circle tower library. The open book is sort of pasted there, and you can pretty much tell no one's actually holding it.

But everything here seems so...natural. Not just the paper and the arrow sticking it to the wall, but even in how he is holding is bow for his last line.

you've been reading my posts?

but yeah i agree with you in that the animations overall feel more natural

Do pre-orders have to be done online, or can I walk into a store and pre-order? My Best Buy employee discount doesn't apply to online orders, and I like me discount.

I would think that you can do this.  I don't see why not.  Just ask the folks in the video game department.

Merrill hasn't been confirmed - as the quote you directly quoted states :pinched:

If she is a companion, however, that'll be a female dalish elf mage to add to the mix. Which would be pretty sweet, all told. Who knows? Speculation is fun though :)

The only thing I care about with regard to this character is that all his game content is available at the release of the game and, unlike Shale, you have to pay for it unless you preorder. If we were getting it the same way we got Shale then I wouldn't care. But the way it is now, it's scheister job. Before anyone starts pointing out to me how easy it is to get him for free I want to point out the distinct but small difference between how he is packaged and how Shale was packaged. This is the frog in the pot of slow boiling water and you are the frog.

If you are so worried, I would suggest preordering... this does remove the problem that your having does it not?   It is obvious that it is possible to get the content free...  why does one have to be picky in how one recieves that content?  It is a bit annoying that I had to preorder for the additional content,  but,  it really doesn't change the fact that it is possible to get it for free.

I just now watched the trailer and I must say wow. That is some pretty awesome paper. Usually if I shot a piece of paper with no backing directly behind it, the arrow just blows straight through the paper. Especially at that range.

@catabuca....gotta agree....probably a non-human mage....(otherwise all the Male Hawkes are only going to get potential human/human interaction for companion LI's (although I do recall reading that not all LIs were going to be companions)...

So I'm thinking a Human male (probable mage) and a non-human female mage.

But back on topic...I do like the details in the animation, like others have said, a little more natural movement, and more interaction with props....very nice.

For those discussing the preorder issue: as far as I'm aware, all Amazon orders (including preorders) can be cancelled up until they start putting your package together to be shipped to you. There's no cost for cancellation and they don't actually take your money until they ship the item to you so there's no cost for preordering either. Even if you're not sure, you might as well preorder to get the signature edition. You can always cancel up until a few days before release if information comes out that decides you against DA2. And if such info doesn't come out, well, you have all the free SE goodies. I believe there is literally nothing to lose here.

Incidentally, I think the graphics look fab.  I honestly have no idea what people are talking about when they say this video looks bad (and would welcome any explanation offered).

This whole OMGZ I can only get him if I pre-order!!! OH NOES stuff is really daft.

What is the point of having an exclusive edition of a new game if it doesn't contain content that the standard edition doesn't? Otherwise we might as well just have the standard edition released, no?

I think it's pretty awesomely excellent that there has been the pre-order early sweetener on the Signature Edition, which means you get all that extra awesome content for free without having to buy a more expensive game in the first place. Some of that extra content will be exclusive to the SE, some will be available to purchase at extra cost to those who got the standard game. I don't see the problem.

No! That only justifies the sales tactic. If I had been planning to preorder anyway then maybe. But I wasn't. And now I can't. Furthermore, I'm tempted now (very very tempted in fact) to just not buy the game at all and wait for the inevitable "Ultimate Edition" in a years extra time that comes with all the extras at not-"consumers are morons, heheehe" prices.

I'm curious what content they'll have exclusive to new, non-signature, editions of the game, since all Bioware games now come with a DLC that's "free" with a new copy.

You should wait then,  I unfortunatly don't find myself having the luxury.  I'm far to excited,  so I preordered and got a bit of a kick back in return.  So,  I think that's pretty cool.  I'm not trying to force you,  but I'm just really confused about why you've got your underwear in a knot.

Because I like BioWare. So every time they do something new that reminds me of a scheisty car salesman (and the instances have been gradually mounting) it makes me sad/upset.

I tend to be partial to the "bonus" characters (Shale, Zaeed, Kasumi). So Iike what I see of Sebastian (I just preordered yesterday, before I saw this). The only problem is we don't see enough.

Angelic, what the anti-DLC people are worried about is that soon we'll be paying piecemeal for every little bit of a game. When it gets too much like that, I'll stop buying. But we're not there yet. Not for me, anyway.

For those who were curious, I wrote the Dwarf Commoner, Orzammar and the Deep Roads, and some early bits of the Landsmeet for Origins. And Bethany. And some guy they haven't announced yet. And a lot of mage plots. Howdy.

Hey, you :D I have to say I didn't liked Deep Roads, but only because it was a giganormous place full of spiders :< But the plot inside Deep Roads was incredible, just sayin'

Ah I see,  I suppose that could be a problem but until I see real proof of it I won't be getting nervous.  As is free content is still being offered,  you just have to have ordered it before hand.  No big deal to me.

I think:
The character seems interesting
The environments are a big improvement over Origins
The costumes are visually appealing
The voice acting and animations well done
It's neat that I get this for free because I pre-ordered

If you don't want to pre-order then don't. You can pick up the regular edition and buy the DLC or not. You can wait for the price to drop. You can wait for it to be bundled in an Ultimate Edition along with the expansion and DLC and sold for $39.99 on Steam. You can simply not buy.

Which is exactly the same as a Frog in the fast boiling pot of water... since water boils at the same temperature while under the same pressure conditions.

Anyways, a company can do what they want with their product.  Especially a luxury entertainment commodity.  The extra character that can be a part of the game and not a DLC character at launch can just as easily not exist at all.
I would consider this argument useful if the extra character was say, Varric.  As in the game won't progress unless you buy the DLC Varric so he can tell his story.  Otherwise you will be forever stuck in the character creation screen.

It's like complaining a car has cloth seats and not leather seats.  It can obviously be added into the car at the factory so why aren't all cars equipped with leather seats?

They're not terrible, there's just nothing even remotely impressive about them (besides the character models). I like the art style, it's just that the visual quality is sorely lacking.

At the beginning of the video you can see a soldier jerk around in place. Environmental textures are still really low-res and undetailed; the grass texture and mushrooms around the Chantry board look especially bad. The textile ground in Kirkwall in still horribly flat, too.

Facial animations also look a bit iffy. Oh, and no bowstrings.

The squeeing, if it were to happen, probably would have already. The "fangirls are mindless squeeing drones" shtick is really getting on my nerves. I said this elsewhere, but we are not the gender that asked if we could romance are OUR (edit: don't look at me!) sister, are we?
