Disappointed? Yeah, let's ignorantly simplify everything to show how little we appreciate the writing team.
There are only a handful of motives. Everything reasonable has been done--get over it.
Do you want an original story or a good story?

I'm disappointed. Another exiled prince like Alistair or Aragorn. This is too common in medieval stories. But I guess I can give the devs some credits for making a new potential love interests for the ladies.
First: Alistair wasn't exiled, neither Aragorn. Second: Devs specifically said that Seb is a completely different characters from Alistair. Third: Seb isn't a confirmed LI.
Forth: How do you dare to compare Alistair to Aragorn? I like Alistair, but can't compare himself to Aragorn. King Elessar is one of my favourite character of all time (both the books and the films)
Calm your fanboy hormones, please. This is foolish. We all have the right to stick to our own opinions.

Alistair was partially exiled fi I remember correctly. Amon or whatever was his name's wife was disgusted with him and exiled him from the noble house. The same thing happened to him partially because of the king, since he made a bastard son and Alistair wasn't welcomed on the throne. This makes him an exiled prince in some sort of weird circomstances. He's still of royal lineage.
I don't recall ever reading anywhere that Loghain was in on that decision. That was Maric and Fiona's decision if Alistiar is their son. This was at the end of "The Calling."
Loghain specifically said that in Origins. I don't read the books, although I know of Maric-Fiona romance, but we don't knpw if their son is actually Alistair. It's a bit complicated, because Alistair has a sister in Origins, and I don't see the reason to make Alistair believe that he has a sister. I prefer to base my opinion on DAO, until a devs said something in regard, from what we know there could be a third son of Maric in the world.
I will conede this point since I have not recruited Loghain as a party member as of yet.
Going from what I know from the book, is that Loghain never knew that Maric had a son with Fiona, only Eamon knew. You do get a dialogue option with Alistair when he tells you he is Maric's son that Loghain probably knew if you pick the correct option. Also during the landsmeet Loghain hints Alistair really isn't Maric's son and as the warden you are trying to put a puppet on the throne. Therefore Loghain lies at the landsmeet if he knew of Alistair and he is just trying to keep himself and his daughter in power. From this standpoint I see Loghain as a father only trying to protect his daughter. Also, if you talk with Anora before the landsmeet you get dialogue that Cailan knew about Alistair, so Anora knew about him.
Also from the book, when Fiona brings her child to Maric, it's only Maric in the throne room with Fiona and Duncan. Nobody knew unless Loghain had spies watching Maric, the doorman at the throneroom.
Also this topic is derailing this thread, so I won't comment further.

Aye.
But I don't mind recurring tropes or themes. Games would be pretty boring without characters who had things they cared about and were passionate about. Yeah, a bit of diversity is nice, but come on folks, we've seen less than a minute and we're already saying that we know everything there is to know about Seb's story and motivations?
There's speculation, and there's speculation.

Loghain said that Alistair is a puppet because I think he would be easily manipulated. I made Loghain my companion only one time, so I'm not sure if he convinced Maric to not recognize Alistair, but I'm sure I know about him, there's an option to ask about why Maric didn't recognize Alistair, so he surely know. The difference in DAO and "The Calling" could be only be explained by the dev, and I'm sure they'll not going to do. Somehow I suspect this will be one of the mysteries in DA lore, like what Flemeth took by Maric in "The stolen throne".

-12 rounds Vengence: you humiliated me..... whatever you do I have already planned 12 steps ahead......here's some Astroglide you'll need it
-Righteous Vengence: 10 good men lie dead in unmarked graves.....he owes me 10 lives and I plan on collecting
-Rob Roy vengence: I'm gonna get my but kicked but I will kill you and rise your child as mine.....
-Taken Vengence: I am badass.....but I'll kill you without showing any emotion whatsoever

What do you people want, really? Every plot and character has been done to death, so if you can't deal with tropes and cliches (which is everything) your life is going to be very unpleasant.
"Let's make him want to avenge the death of his family but we find out that he is actually the one who killed them because he has a split personality. Then we discover he is actually the chosen one to stop all evil everywhere, but the only way to do that is for him to find true love, but the girl he loves has an overbearing father." < --- If this sort of convoluted garbage is what you are looking for, do us all a favor: break your enter key and go rent Inception.
Bioware has a great writing team.

That is a fairly common thing amongst revenge stories, they have no problem killing hordes of people to reach their target, but then they say "I've learned something today, killing is bad" and let the target live.

Who with the skillz is up for making us some of our first Seb Vael fanart then? This thread is sorely lacking in anything approaching happiness ... and all this ****ing is getting rather boring. There are other threads where people can discuss the graphics in the whole game, and the pros and cons and ethics of DLC. A character reveal thread is probably not one of them.
