I'm on my 13th playthrough of DAO and I romance Alistair everytime. I never get bored with it. Bioware is known for the romance in their games.

In other news, DA2 is a dating sim.
I wouldn't say that, but romance is fun. Think if you went to work every day, went home at night and there was no leisure time spent with a nice looking SO. What a boring life it would be.

Not extreme. We have two of these SE on pre-order, one for my son and one for me. I play for the enjoyment more than the fighting. If Bioware can't do better than Varric and Fenris, then I don't want the game.

So yes, I'm really really hoping Sebastian is an LI. But if he's not I'll happily go elsewhere.

Anyway, his skin texture looks amazing. I was praying that the skin textures on the earlier shots (of Carver for example... and maybe Isabella ) were still WIP. From the look of Sebastian and that dame the art department gods answered that prayer.

Where?
And I'm talking about in the past ten years.
Lol are you serious Dave? There are so many. The first that comes to mind would probably be Neverwinter Knights.

Well hmmm, let's see, in DAO they gave us only 2 playable male romances, Alistair and Zevran, and in my case, only Alistair was romanceable. I love Zev as a character, but not my type thus not my character's type. There were only 4 males in the entire party came, Sten and Ogren were not romanceable. So even if they had 4 male companions, two of which were not romanceable. Now we have three of possible 4 male companions announced in DA2 and only one would I find romanceable and he may not be because he's dlc. Here's to hoping they release a tool set.

There's plenty of games (including recent ones) where playing as male is the only option and they get to have options for LIs, while the reverse cannot be said for females. There's maybe a handful of those games, most of which have the gender choice option and aren't "exclusive" compared to, let's say, Growlanser, where male is the only option.
Being forced to play male isn't the same thing.
Neverwinter Nights had no complete romances if I recall, just "small" romances with Aribeth for male and Aarin for female. I might be remembering wrong.

I'll admit I'm not a giant fan of Varric and Fenris' looks, but they're not ugly. And to me in a game I don't judge the LIs on looks alone. Voice and character go a lot into it. Besides, we've only seen a few screens of them, we haven't seen anything substantial. They might look a lot better in the game.
So yes, I'm really really hoping Sebastian is an LI. But if he's not I'll happily go elsewhere.
Each to his/her own I suppose. I don't think either of them is attractive and like I said earlier, I like eye candy. IRL, I married a normal guy. I play games to escape reality.

Bioware is among the top in rpgs with romance and reported on all the sites where they review rpgs with romance and I would also say, they excel in eye candy too, Carth and even Canderous (sp) even though he wasn't a romance option, Kaidan, Alistair, heck even Thane in ME2.

They are good at it, too be sure; I'd even agree they are the best at it. But it's what they're known for? No
Me, personally I won't decide who to romance till I get a bet grip on the companions personalities, thats more important to me than how pretty a collection of pixels is.
As such some my favorite bioware romances are Jack, Morrigan, Liara, and Tali. about 50/50 split between eye candy and non

Dave the point I was trying to make is that generally speaking, guys have more options. If a person wanted to play a game with romance (since it's pretty popular as you can tell by this and several other threads) most of the time you'll play as a guy who get's his choice of girls from a harem or if there is a choice between playing as male or female, playing as a male leaves you with more options than playing as a female.Dave of Canada wrote...

All I was saying was, given that tidbit, it would be a little sweet if the shoe was on the other foot, though I also find it highly unlikely.
And in NWN guys had the option to romance with aribeth and "flirt" with the bard girl - forgot her name but she was a henchman. Ladies just got Aarin. If that doesn't count since it's not a full romance, then in the HotU expansion, guys get both Nathyrra and Aribeth for a romance while ladies only get Valen (tbh that's all we really need though<3)

Also if you recall in DA:O the male warden's LI's were Morrigan, Lelianna and Zevran, the female warden's LI's were Alistair, Lelianna and Zevran... pretty equal if you ask me.
I'm sorry, I may just be overly optimistic about this game, but I don't feel like I have any reason not to feel that I will be satisfied with a majority, if not mostly all, aspects of DA2.
Great DLC companion, LOVE LOVE LOVE the accent

It's true, he's into strategy games, spends most of his time playing them. I'm into rpgs. And my hubby is a total gaming nerd. He has no idea what romance is.

Why is everyone being so pessimistic? Even if C-bass is not an LI i'm sure he'll be an interesting companion with a compelling storyline. Also, not all of the companions have been introduced yet so we don't know all the LI's for female hawke. Bioware hasn't done us girl gamers wrong in the past, so why despair over the limited information given so far?

Actually, they have ME2. Though I love the companions, we didn't get a Miranda did we. No. And frankly, Lelianna is only an option if you're bi and I'm not bi (not saying that's bad or anything for those who are).

If you wish to discuss romances in general, this is not the thread for it.
And while I'm here, I'll say again, let's cut the casual sexism of 'women are like THIS and men are like THIS'.

also, if you went back and read the last few pages of the thread you'd see where i was coming from with my comment about inequality. nowhere was i saying that bioware was "trying to keep girls down".
