I've read that the SCS mod core components install includes a fix for the infamous Tutu Beregost bug. I've downloaded that and would like to install just the bug fix. I can't tell from the readme if that is possible but it appears so. The readme mentions SCS can be installed into a game in progress but again with no specific mention of the bug fix as it might apply in this case.

I am wondering if the bug fix can be applied by itself from SCS and if it can be applied to a game in progress where I have already visited and left Beregost. During that visit I followed the recommended course of save before entering, save when leaving, re-enter then load the exiting save. I had no problem and didn't encounter the bug this time at least as I was heading south to Nashkel. It would be nice to not have to worry about this for this run through. At least for future ones I know I can install the fix before starting a game and be set.

My guess is that as long as you install it before the crash occurs, you should be alright. Worst case scenario, you can still fall back on the Beregost Crash fixer.

I grabbed that file for just in case. I think I will install it and to be conservative for this time around still save in the recommended fashion going in and out of there. Hopefully it will never crash with the fix applied but if it does I'll still have that good save made before entering.

If you've already visited Beregost, the fix probably won't have any effect, unfortunately. Couldn't hurt to try, though.

I'm a little tempted to revert to my save just prior to entering Beregost then. The progess lost would be a little painful but not too bad. I forget now but how much time is actually spent doing things in and around Beregost? Is it very much or am I better off just doing the cautious saving routine, etc. and the heck with it? Next time I'll have the fix before I ever begin. For now I did go ahead and install it though just in case it might save me a reload at some point.

It's not really that much time, compared to the frustration you get when the Beregost bug happens. Sometimes it takes several reloads and doing stuff in Beregost and getting out for two or three times in a row before the save after Beregost is OK. So, if your still not far from Beregost and you've got the fix installed now, redoing Beregost now might save you from frustration later.

Yes, you can use the SCS Beregost-bug-fixer without installing any other part of SCS.

You can use it after you've started a new game, but not after you've been to Beregost (the bug is in the area file, and area files get saved in your savegame).

Well for this playthrough unfortunately I've gone to far to revert now. So I'll use the careful saving before entering and after leaving, etc. to get around it. At least now I know for future plays to install this right away. Thanks all.

According to the author of the crash fix, it only works on games where you have not been to Beregost yet. Once you go there, it saves the town in a separate file that the fixer doesn't touch.
