I don't know if everyone took the time to look around Liara's apartment on Illium in LotSB, while looking for data with Tela Vasir.

But Liara's apartment is seriously one of the best (THE best IMO) we've ever seen in ME2.

-- It has a golden location. Illium is one of the most expensive planets in the Galaxy, and a "cultural marvel". If I could live anywhere in the Galaxy, Nos Astra would be my choice.

-- It is spacious and luxurious, and yet tastefully and elegantly decorated, like Donovan Hock's apartment on Bekenstein, but with TWO floors instead of one.

-- It has a gorgeous view. Being a big city dweller all my life, I prefer the colorful view of Nos Astra's skyline from Liara's apartment to the moutain view from Hock's apartment.

-- It has a breathtaking collection of paintings, Prothean relics, and other meaningful artifacts (Shepard's old N7 Armor among them). It's a museum of art and history, even more so that Kasumi's cabin on the Normandy.

-- It has a fish tank containing some baby Hanars/jellies. Shepard's has a similar fish tank on the Normandy. This means Shepard and Liara both like fishes - another factor in their remarkable compatibility.

-- It has a kitchen, with dirty dishes in the sink when you arrived. Just remember how rich & busy Liara is. Also imagine the convenience and quality of food delivery services in Nos Astra - they have anything from authentic varren skewers made by Krogans to alcohol made by the vorcha, and presumably all varieties of Asari, Turian, Salarian and Human cousine. This can only mean one thing - Liara is a PHENOMENAL COOK.

Exploring Liara's apartment was one of my favourite parts of LotSB. I loved it when Shepard was able to examine her framed doctorate degree certificate. Considering the fact that my Shepard and Liara love each other, it was also a deeply poignant and moving experience for her too.

It was brilliant.

I love Liara's apartment and wish that she and my FemShep could have a weekend getaway there. : )

It has been said that the quality of a place can only be determined by the quality of those living in it.

Haha, I never saw Liara as a great cook, considering she probably ate pre-processed foods while out on her dig-site...she must have picked it up recently.

The apartment is epic though...my Shepard wants to move in there someday. As mentioned, they added some nice touches to make it 'Liara's' apartment so it didn't seem like any old generic apartment you run into, like the degree certificate and the Prothean relics.

I actually noticed some glasses, and assumed Liara was preparing for Shepard and her to have some drinks.

That's true! And Tela Vasir had to interrupt it all! Grrrr....

I thought Liara's lifestyle would have been Spartan too. But I also believe that anyone can be a good cook if they put their mind into it - and someone as smart as Liara can certainly be a great one. I know my FemShep is a good cook - part of the reason Rupert puts in the extra effort in preparing the meals is because he wants no more requests from the crew for the Commander's cooking instead of his. :wizard:

I always have a deep respect for fictional characters with PhDs who are NOT villains. They are always deep, interesting, offer intelligent conversation, and are very rare to come by. In ME we have the great Dr Solus and the lovely Dr T'Soni.

I wished that too, but I guess Liara sold the apartment after she became the Broker. :-( Or maybe we can hope that she kept it, planning to come back later. I would have kept it - an estate in the core of Nos Astra is not an investment you should easily let go of.

That's funny when you remember that Shepard showed up in full armor with two squad mates.

Shep's almost always in full armor when not on the Normandy. Just professional habit I guess.

And since I brought Samara & Kasumi, I wouldn't mind if they join us anyway.

I think that's more because they added in henchmen later on, but I guess they could have some group drinking at Liara's place. Plus, Shepard probably expected to go into battle after visiting Liara's.

I wouldn't put it past Liara to train herself to become a great cook. She's excelled at everything else she's ever tried, why not cooking?

I'm pretty sure she wouldn't keep baby hanar in a fish tank, even if it is somehow legal on Illium. As for Normandy fish tank, it doesn't necessarily mean Shepard likes fishes (it wasn't her choice to install it). But if you roleplay it that way it's certainly heartwarming to see Liara smile as she looks at it (well, she's scripted to smile even if all the fish are dead, but still...)

Bioware certainly did a great job with Liara's apartment though. It felt like you're seeing a corner of her life, and I think it really added to her character in a way.

Sherlock Holmes would be ashamed.  Ashamed I tell you!

Just because Liara cooks doesn't mean she's good at it, much less phenomenal.  it doesn't even mean she necessarily enjoys doing so.  Maybe she has special dietary needs due to some health condition that we don't know about.  Maybe the asari who still believe in The Goddess have religious strictures on their diet.  And last but not least, she is a biotic.  I'm sure she's in the habit of making herself snacks regularly, and cooking food yourself is always cheaper than getting it prepared, and you don't have to wait for delivery, either.  It could just be simple economica sensibility and convenience.

Although admittedly it'd be nice if she's just good at it.
:P

Huh, I'd never really thought about the significance or deeper meaning of Liara smiling at Shepard's fish tank, to be honest. I do love that the pair of them keep fishes as pets.

I agree with tmk. Due to the fact that Liara's apartment is personalised to that degree, it feels like an extension of her character and personality. It's a wonderful place to explore.

That (baby Hanars) was a joke.

I just find it amusing that Liara is keeping jellies in her fish tank, as most fishes will be poisoned/stunned by the jellies.

My Spacer Shepard always liked fishes. Their graceful swimming movements reminds her of the starships coming in and out of Alliance naval bases, that she used to watch as a child from her window.

I think it would be adorable if she was a terrible cook and my Shepard would try to put on a straight face as she tries Liara's meal.

1. She didn't mention any sort of special dietary need when on the Normandy SR1.

2. From her conversation, it's clear she's not religious. And the most dominant Asari religion is pantheistic, more of a philosophy than a religion, has no known dietary constraints, and is considered a cultural relic by most Asari.

3. All Asari are biotic. Illium is dominated by the Asari. Whatever special food the Asari needs due to religious or physiological reasons, it will be abundant on Illium.

4. She's very rich and very powerful. Just estimate the worth of her apartment, and the amount of respect people on Illium has for her. She's also very busy. I already mentioned this in the OP. The only reason for her to cook would be that she likes her own cooking better than anything else money can buy, which means she's a good cook.

Edit: I really didn't expect the need to explain all this in this thread...

I can see this going both ways.

Liara: *takes a bite, chewing slowly while trying to keep a straight face*
Shepard: So?  What do you think?
Liara: It is very impressive for such an early attempt.
Shepard: *Takes a bite*
Liara: *Pauses, looking up at Shepard*
Shepard: *Spits food out onto plate*
Liara (looking relieved): Oh, thank the Goddess!  *Takes her napkin and removes the food from her mouth.*

LOL!  I know you aren't being serious, but now all I can think of is Shepard watching the news at Liara's place and hearing this:

News: "... authorities are still searching for the baby hanar, who have been missing since last Tuesday.  We have their mother in the studio with us."
Hanar: "This one pleads for the safe return of her young.  This one will gladly pay any ransom."
News: "If you hear any word of the missing hanar children, please call this number..."

Shepard: :? Liara... how long did you say you've had those jellyfish?
Liara:
Shepard:

All the landscapes from DLCs so far are so heartwarming. "Aesthetic view" from Aite, panoramas from Bekenshtein - they are asks to be visited with LI.

Speaking about Liara's apartment - it's proof that all Shepards are very different. My Spacer renegade was very jealous, my colonist regretted about Liara wasn't there, while Spacer Paragade decided this place is too unprotected and lacks of walls. She'd rather settle in former Atlas station and sometimes visited the waterfalls nearby.

Agreed! I even kept a save file in her apartment. I go there with Luna Shepard and hang out sometimes while conveniently ignoring everything that Tela Vasir says.
