Im also hoping that a Dev will come and tell us if it was a "Terrible Presence" like the Wiki say or a "Terrifying Presence" because I get no good hits on Google.

How would the old gods and elven gods fit into this greater threat?

The problem is that this seem to predate the Darkspawn. The Darkspawn came 800 years after the enslavement of the Elves and this must have been during, or before, the war between Tevinter and the Elves.Maria Caliban wrote...

The Darkspawn more then likely.
Tevinter was founded 800 years before the coming of the Darkspawn. There's no way the Empire could have stretched across the face of Thedas the same year.
History says that the Tevinter Imperium began a war with elves but it doesn't say when. Nor do we know when the darkspawn first appeared.

Better not be something stupid like "The Darkness" From Fable 3. I mean the plot they had, It had some potential but it was introduced so randomly and out of the blue. Nothing was ever explained about it
We can piece together certain things, it's possibly a high ranking shadow from the Shadow Court, or a being from the same dimension where Jack of Blades came from.

Agreed. That was just one of the many disappointments that plagued the abomination that was 'Fable 3.'

The Arlathan is the Black City theory is intresting. It's never said that Arlathan was destroyed, just that the earth swallowed it up.
What if the Golden City was a prison? What if Tevinter released some old evil (Dragon Age's version of the Devil or something) that made the city Black and created the Darkspawn? What if this evil was the one attacking the Elves and Tevinter? And what if it returns?

I wonder if a Dev can tell us if it was a "Terrible Presence" like the Wiki say or a "Terrifying Presence"? This is keeping me up at night.

I'm betting on Aliens from outer space. According to a History Channel show, aliens like to tinker around with ancient civilizations.
My bets are on it being our favorite mechanical Lovecraftian horrors from beyond the galaxy, the Reapers...
edit: damnit...Someone beat me to it...

Now I remember the rage demon in the orphanage claiming that there was no Maker or Golden City. I dismissed it as demon trash talking but now we know that Coryphaeus never mentions the Golden City either. Perhaps the Magisters of Old Tevinter sent Arlathan to the middle of the Fade as part of their war with the elves and in turn they created the Black City. Maybe the elves in Arlathan twisted the magisters into darkspawn as part of their revenge.
