Is Gaxkang supposed to cause permanent stamina loss?

I think this has to be a bug.

I go into the Gaxkang fight with 230 max stamina, but every time he shifts form it knocks my max down, until at the end of the fight sometimes I have 0/0, 25/25/ 80/80 or so on. This can happen to companion characters as well- Oghren seems really susceptiible. This didn't used to happen so I'm thinking it's being caused by a mod perhaps- just curious if anyone else has run into it or has an idea what causes it.

I've never noticed this. It must be a bug, this is the first time I remember hearing about this. Weird.

Yeah, it's no fun to come out of the fight with the Fade Wall in hand but your new max stamina is 25- too low to even activate ANY of your powers.

That has to be a bug, if it's done it permanently. Though sometimes, you have to wait a few minutes for things to wear off. I've never had this happen, though.

Should definitely report it.

Well, I looked through my mod list and it turns out I've got a bunch installed, not all of which I use all or even some of the time. I think I'm going to go back and do a fresh install, try the 1.4 upgrade, and then layer back in the mods I really can't live without, and roll from there.

Just finished my current playthough and was thinking of taking it on to Awakenings, now I'm not so sure I want to bother. Also downloaded some fresher versions of mods I've been running for quite a while.

Two things to try before giving up:

Visit camp
Unequip then reequip your armor, weapons, and jewelry.

Wiki says there is a glitch whereby Aura of Weakness will not go away with timeout- it has to be either Cleansed by a templar or I guess Dispelled by a mage. Could be this??

Which makes me wonder how many of my characters were running around with chronic fatigue syndrome.

I actually thought of this but after it was too late to go back and try. If it happens again I may try it again next time, along with the dispel in case the problem is being caused by Aura of Weakness not timing out.

I'm having the same problem~ Do you know which mods you had installed? I've got quite a few myself.

EDIT: Was watching the battle closely, cursor over my stamina bar~ The permanent stamina change in my game happens every time he casts drain. Once it was fifty, once it was thirty, but it's every time he casts drain.

EDIT 2: Tried disabling all my DLC, official and otherwise, then force-loading. No luck :( Look's like no fade wall for me.

Nothing works once you engage- it must be a bug.

I've been handling it by going in as overpowered as possible and having the mage cast the Glyph of Neutralization on him, and then templar-ing the hell out of him and trying to kill him quick. Sometimes I get away near scot-free, sometimes I have to reload because one or more characters finishes the fight with a permanent stamina rating at or near zero.

On a couple playthroughs I've just let the bastich be.

So THAT'S what happened; both my PC and Dog have been affected by this.:(
MY PC lost aboot 30 stamina points, but Dog lost around 60; he can only use one talent before running out of stamina!<_<

Unfortunatly, its been a while since I've fought Gax, so re-loading isn't an option (this is the save I'm importing into DA2, so I'm playing through as fast as I can), so I guess I'll just suck it up and push on through into Awakening, then Golems and Witch Hunt

Vulnerability Hex + Mana Clash. 'nuff said.

On the latest playthrough I just switched the game difficulty to easy and got away with no stamina loss at all. Which makes me wonder which it might be:

1. On easy, he doesn't use the drain spell that causes the permanent drain, or does and the drain isn't permanent.

2. The bug doesn't happen on easy; or

3. It's not a bug, and on Nightmare mode you face the possibility of permanent stamina loss when fighting Gax. I still think it's a bug, though.

I'll have to try the vul-hex/mana clash combo one of these days. Sounds like a winner.
