Something everyone in the story knows, but the audience doesn't because the creators have deliberately kept it from them, is a lazy and artificial way to build a mystery. It's arbirtary to the extreme, and while "miffed" is still stronger than I would describe my feelings, I do feel it is dumb.
I don't think they ever intended it as a mystery. I don't think it even
is a mystery in any meaningful sense that applies to fiction. There is absolutely
zero plot relevance to quarian facial physiognomy. It matters for nothing. I think they just wanted to have some aliens in cool suits that resembled their rogue AI creations, and came up with a design and a justification. I mean, I'm sure they realized people would wonder, and they liked the enigmatic vibe, but I don't think it was ever a goal. Then people got all obsessed with the "What do they look like?" thing and they decided to toy with them a bit come ME2. I thought them not showing her face if you romanced her was pretty damn funny, actually.
Not to single you out, but I've said as much in the thread already. People seem to be assuming that I'm too stupid to "suspend my disbelief" (like I would have got 10 minutes into the game if I couldn't do that) and ignoring any evidence to the contrary because they like to be c-words on the internet.
I wasn't assuming that. I just wanted to know why (as it seemed) this particular instance was a problem, but others weren't.
