If they reveal quarian face in ME3, then it's okay... if they still hide it, then it is dumb to keep it hidden (my opinion)... how about if Tali is still alive in your ME3, then you should see her face, if not, then you don't see any quarian face

edit: the player themselves are supposed to be shepard right, and see everything shepard sees... so if we chose to romance tali, why don't we (as shepard) see tali's face during the romance scene? that part always bugged me

OP, there are pictures of quarians. It's just that Shepard will conveniently never run across one in such a way that the player can see it.

I always got the impression that if you flipped open a history book or turned on the telly to the discovery channel or something you'd see a depiction of what quarians look like.

But Shepard never flips open history books or turns on tellies.

I figure most people in the ME universe have at least seen a picture of a Quarian without a helmet. They're not that mysterious to the people who populate that universe. They're mysterious to us.

To me, that is the dumbest part of all, although I wasn't aware of it when I created the thread. It just makes the "mystery" of it all that much more artificial and arbitrary. Oh, well. It's less dumb than if literally NO ONE knew what they looked like, but... still dumb. IMO, YMMV, etc etc ad naseum.

I have no doubt that pictures of the quarians exist, but that doesn't mean that a quarians apperance is common knowledge. I mean there are plenty of organisms on earth that have gone extinct after the invention of the camera, but despite this most people wouldn't know what a tasmanian wolf looks like despite pictures of them existing. you have to realise that in the Mass effect universe people don't interact with quarians very often, so most people wouldn't be interested.

It involves the general punch to the balls that Bioware does re: biology in ME. Immunology and evolution cry when the quarians are mentioned.

I find it strange that I have to repeat this.

Suspend your disbelief.

Alternately, you could actually read my post and not be deathly literal. Derrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Why would you want to loss your love for Tali? Because you know you wouldn't love her anymore when you find out that she looks like a Predetor.

It's not about suspension of disbelief. It's the fact only the player is left in the dark about what Quarians look like. I find it strange that I have to repeat myself, too, but I guess that's what happens when people don't bother to read a thread before replying to it :o

So what?  So the player is left in the dark about what she looks like.  Not that big a deal.  You sound like the sort of person who gets angry when the weathermen fail to predict the weather with 100% accuracy.

Hey!  you should be a weather man..... you do have the word oracle in your name.

Oh please. People have been doing things like this for years.

Just look at Charlie Browns teacher.

Oh wait. You can't.

I entered thinking this was a troll/rage topic. I guess looks can be deceiving. Anyway it is kinda weird I agree OP.

Edit: nvm. I thought it said Quarian mission which was why I thought it was a troll topic and was confused when the OP had nothing to do with it :o my fail.

At what point in my original post was I "angry"? I only got snippy when you decided to grace us with your trolly presence. Way to fail, son.

EDIT: Oh wait, you're a freaking Talimancer. That explains it Posted Image

Again, nothing to do with suspension of disbelief. Nor am I unfamiliar with the "faceless character" trope, nor are are you the first person in this thread to even point it out.  Thanks for being pedantic and assuming I'm retarded though, that's always charming.

So, are you miffed at all the bajillion other instances of the trope?  If so, OK. I can respect consistency.  If not, why not?

Admittedly, it's more of a forum-centric thing than existing strictly in the game, it's just the fact that it is considered to be such a "juicy" potential reveal. No one really gave a **** what Charlie Brown's teacher looked like, or Kenny from South Park. Or at least I didn't. And for the record, I don't really give a **** what Tali looks like either. But yes, in general, I think it is a stupid trope across the board. Something everyone in the story knows, but the audience doesn't because the creators have deliberately kept it from them, is a lazy and artificial way to build a mystery. It's arbirtary to the extreme, and while "miffed" is still stronger than I would describe my feelings, I do feel it is dumb.

Not to single you out, but I've said as much in the thread already. People seem to be assuming that I'm too stupid to "suspend my disbelief" (like I would have got 10 minutes into the game if I couldn't do that) and ignoring any evidence to the contrary because they like to be c-words on the internet.

I don't think they ever intended it as a mystery. I don't think it even is a mystery in any meaningful sense that applies to fiction.  There is absolutely zero plot relevance to quarian facial physiognomy.  It matters for nothing.  I think they just wanted to have some aliens in cool suits that resembled their rogue AI creations, and came up with a design and a justification.  I mean, I'm sure they realized people would wonder, and they liked the enigmatic vibe, but I don't think it was ever a goal.  Then people got all obsessed with the "What do they look like?" thing and they decided to toy with them a bit come ME2.  I thought them not showing her face if you romanced her was pretty damn funny, actually.

I wasn't assuming that.  I just wanted to know why (as it seemed) this particular instance was a problem, but others weren't.

Well they share dna similarities with turians given if you listen to the convo in the Illium nightclub. They also have three fingers and are thin. I would guess they are scaled and either snake-like or lizard-like in appearnace. You do see large lidless eyes through the suit and oddly a human-like nose.

It was only 300 galactic standard years ago that the Quarians screwed the Geth pooch and had to resort to being filthy space gypsies. Considering how advanced the civilizations of the galaxy are in general (I know the Quarians are known for their technical expertise, but if they were building AI 300 years ago and the rest of the galaxy already had enough experience with AI to have outlawed it, one can assume they had, y'know, cameras and ****) it doesn't really make sense to me that there is not one surviving picture of a Quarian without an environmental suit.

Obviously this is dictacted by the plot to give them an air of mystery and to drive Talimancers up the wall, but it just strikes me as Dumb with a capital D that there are literally no known depictions of what they actually look like and absolutely no one has any idea what their appearence really is.

Sorry if this has been discussed before, but I was sitting in traffic earlier and it just hit me.

It isnt a ambiguous thing that no character in the game knows what a quarian looks like, its just one of those things that are made to keep the gamers interested, and if fan art and fanfic is any indicator, its working lol

btw, im not trying to be "that guy" or ride you on political correctness, but gypsy can be considered an offensive racial slur, for future reference
