It was only 300 galactic standard years ago that the Quarians screwed the Geth pooch and had to resort to being filthy space gypsies. Considering how advanced the civilizations of the galaxy are in general (I know the Quarians are known for their technical expertise, but if they were building AI 300 years ago and the rest of the galaxy already had enough experience with AI to have outlawed it, one can assume they had, y'know, cameras and ****) it doesn't really make sense to me that there is not one surviving picture of a Quarian without an environmental suit.

Obviously this is dictacted by the plot to give them an air of mystery and to drive Talimancers up the wall, but it just strikes me as Dumb with a capital D that there are literally no known depictions of what they actually look like and absolutely no one has any idea what their appearence really is.

Sorry if this has been discussed before, but I was sitting in traffic earlier and it just hit me.

It isnt a ambiguous thing that no character in the game knows what a quarian looks like, its just one of those things that are made to keep the gamers interested, and if fan art and fanfic is any indicator, its working lol

btw, im not trying to be "that guy" or ride you on political correctness, but gypsy can be considered an offensive racial slur, for future reference

To clarify and sum up, I did not realize when I made the thread that the characters in-universe are aware of what Quarians look like. I am glad that isn't true, because that would be really dumb, as my original post outlines. And yes, I could suspend my disbelief even if it were, in case anybody else were wondering and would like to insult me about it. I still think it is dumb that they have seemingly made such a big deal about holding off the reveal, even though I have no strong feelings about it one way or the other (except that I feel it is dumb, if I wasn't clear on that Posted Image). But perhaps it is really the Talimancers making such a big deal about wanting to see her face that makes me think BIoware is making a big deal by holding off the reveal.

I realize this puts me in the wrong here, but I was actually intentionally using gypsy a slur in that instance.  Posted Image But I appreciate you not being "that guy".

The Asari Matriarch at the bar on Illium makes the comment that she's one of the few people that remembers what Quraians look like under their mask. The only other species that lives long enough to remember such things are the Krogan, and I doubt they would be much interested in taking pictures of Quraians (unless they were trophies). As for the likelihood of there being pictures/vids of Quraians, it is quite possible that the "history books" in the Mass Effect universe are just as biased as ours are (compare a Japanese text book with a Chinese one, or a Palestinian one with an Israeli one). Seeing as how Quarians are like "gypsies" and disliked for unleashing the Geth, I can see why they might be left out of the history books,

That being said, I do think the lack of a reveal is frustrating (especially since Tali was my LI the first time through). Oh well, fingers crossed for a glimpse in ME3.

To be fair, it isnt necesarily common houshold knowladge, as you pointed out, they are looked down upon by the galactic community. most just dont care, but the information is there if they care to look for it

Well actually anyone (in ME universe) only has to go to the nearest public extranet terminal if they really wanted to know what a Quarian looks like.

Or if you are more Daring, order a copy of fornax. That'll do ya.

You know, now that I think about it, there are hardly any pictures at all.  Fair amount of art in Hock's place, and a couple in Liara's apartment. Couple more paintings in Kasumi's quarters.  Your LI photo, and the one of Kaidan that's always on Andersons desk at the Citadel.  And now I'm drawing a blank.  Are there any more?

Well, the reaper picture/info sheet shepard/joker holds at the end cinematic comes to mind. Not sure if that would qualify though. Just a datapad.

Nah, I'd count it, just like I count the two images on Liara's datapad in her apartment.  Those all seem to be like "space jpg" files, not paused frames from video.  You do see monitors with still images occasionally, but that's obviously them not animating something you'll barely look at, and you're just supposed to buy that it's a security cam feed or whatever.

Oh, and I was excluding the Codex, which is obviously full of them, because it's not part of the various environments.

I'm pretty sure there would have been a Quarian culture before their destruction (i.e. paintings, music, films, role playing video games), and that somebody, somewhere has preserved much of it. Given that Asari live for up to a thousand years and Asari almost certainly married Quarians, there should thus almost certainly be numerous records of their culture. It's not like every Quarian would have lived on a Quarian world either - many would have lived on alien planets or orbitals or what have you.

Even then, the fact that they wear suits doesn't mean they can't have transparent face plates, the ones they all use are obscured by purple fog because the art team just thought they should. It also doesn't mean that other species wouldn't have medical records of their species from way back when, including detailed images of every part of their anatomy, inside and out. Not to mention that Quarians can take their suits off in sterile environments if they want to and have photos taken (Fornax would pay generously no doubt!).

Hock has stone tablets with carved quarian writing.

Evidently if you do Shepard's romance with Tali he isn't disappointed... Or is scared stiff having seen it... She did throw him to the bed before he could comment or protest.

I understand the whole thing about keeping it a mystery and whatnot, and how people in the ME universe know what they look like... But I want to be able to see in-game what they look like.. it gets a bit annoying to me. I don't feel as big a connection with her as I do other squad members since she has no face to connect with... good thing Tali's voice is so expression-full.

I find it strange that I have to repeat this.

Suspend your disbelief.

It's not about suspension of disbelief. It's the fact only the player is left in the dark about what Quarians look like.

So what?  So the player is left in the dark about what she looks like.  Not that big a deal.  You sound like the sort of person who gets angry when the weathermen fail to predict the weather with 100% accuracy.

Hey!  you should be a weather man..... you do have the word oracle in your name.

At what point in my original post was I "angry"? I only got snippy when you decided to grace us with your trolly presence. Way to fail, son.

EDIT: Oh wait, you're a freaking Talimancer. That explains it Posted Image

Right of course.... because if someone tells you that you might just in fact be making a mountain out of molehill, then they are obviously a troll.

I did'nt say you said you were "Angry" in your original post ..... i said.....

So what?  So the player is left in the dark about what she looks like.

when the weathermen fail to predict the weather with 100% accuracy.

I know, you misread my post because your glasses are fogged up from all the steam comming out of your ears, so you can use mine instead!  I have to warn you though, my glasses are ultra thick coke bottle lenses, and I get beat up often because people mistaken me for an acctual geek.  One good side to using them though is that the lenses are so thick that if you look at a map you can see people waving at you.

And if i may ask, oh great and powerful oracle of... outlaws (sorry for the elipses i had to scroll up to see what you were an oracle of again; by the way do you have credientials for that?)

If i may ask, what in the world does me being a fan of Tali have to do with........well with anything?  My paragon Shepard romanced her, and i support her being a squad memeber in ME3, but what does that have to do with me pointing out your little tantrum earlier over the Quarian Mystery being "Dumb"  <------   You used this word (quoted for accuracy)

If you were stomping around and sulking over, lets say, never seeing a female Turian, or Miranda's caboose being too round, or not being able to romance female Krogan (I suspect that will be your next rant)  Then i would have still come in here and told you to chill out all the same.  Me being a fan of Tali is somewhat irelevant.   I acctually hope we never see her face.... but wait a minute!  You're upset about not being able to see the quarian's faces, while everyone else in the game can, so that OBVIOUSLY makes you a closet Talimancer, or at the very least a cry baby which is universally defined as someone who complains when things don't go the way they want.

This forum is a place for posting one's opinions after all, and if me sarcastically pointing out that you need to just relax and maybe not take it so personaly that the Quarian Mystery is "Dumb"  <---- (quoted again for accuracy)  makes me a troll, then i will go find a bridge.  Thier are lots of them where I live so this should'nt be a real problem.  I might get cold though since its the middle of winter, so if i go sit under one i demand that you feel bad for me....at least a little.

In closing, I just wanted to ask, since you are an oracle, can you help me cheat at Black jack?  I'll split the winnings with you... 50 50 all the way...  :)  Afterwards we can high five and go get some chinese food.   [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/happy.png[/smilie]

This is probably the best fan art ive seen of what a Quarian might look like under there helmets. I hope Bioware takes notice of what this guy has drawn cause it looks fantastic.

Oh wow, it actually isn't.
It's a good picture but I'm not big on the design.
It's just a blue human, don't the asari already fill that role?

Yea i guess your right, its most likely a tough decision for Bioware to decide on. Cause just imagine if they made them look hideous.

I'd be happy if quarians had a batarian level of attractiveness.
If you're going to romance an alien who's been stuck in a suit for most of her life you shouldn't expect super model good looks.

To an extent, I agree. If people are that centred about Tali's looks anyway, their missing half the point of the romance.

Nonsene. Tali is strong. In video games, strong females are either (a) hideous villains who's ugly looks is to accent their villainy, or (B) very attrative regardless of alignment.

When was the last time you saw a dumpy, not-very-attractive strong female character?
