Uh, it was explained. They do that not out of necessity, but because the Quarian fleet is comprised of recycled ships who's systems could break down any moment and they don't wanna get caught with their pants down.

I find it strange that I have to repeat this.

Suspend your disbelief.

It's not about suspension of disbelief. It's the fact only the player is left in the dark about what Quarians look like.

So what?  So the player is left in the dark about what she looks like.  Not that big a deal.  You sound like the sort of person who gets angry when the weathermen fail to predict the weather with 100% accuracy.

Hey!  you should be a weather man..... you do have the word oracle in your name.

At what point in my original post was I "angry"? I only got snippy when you decided to grace us with your trolly presence. Way to fail, son.

EDIT: Oh wait, you're a freaking Talimancer. That explains it Posted Image

Right of course.... because if someone tells you that you might just in fact be making a mountain out of molehill, then they are obviously a troll.

I did'nt say you said you were "Angry" in your original post ..... i said.....

So what?  So the player is left in the dark about what she looks like.
Not that big a deal.  You sound like the sort of person who gets angry
when the weathermen fail to predict the weather with 100% accuracy.

I know, you misread my post because your glasses are fogged up from all the steam comming out of your ears, so you can use mine instead!  I have to warn you though, my glasses are ultra thick coke bottle lenses, and I get beat up often because people mistaken me for an acctual geek.  One good side to using them though is that the lenses are so thick that if you look at a map you can see people waving at you.

And if i may ask, oh great and powerful oracle of... outlaws (sorry for the elipses i had to scroll up to see what you were an oracle of again; by the way do you have credientials for that?)

If i may ask, what in the world does me being a fan of Tali have to do with........well with anything?  My paragon Shepard romanced her, and i support her being a squad memeber in ME3, but what does that have to do with me pointing out your little tantrum earlier over the Quarian Mystery being "Dumb"  <------   You used this word (quoted for accuracy)

If you were stomping around and sulking over, lets say, never seeing a female Turian, or Miranda's caboose being too round, or not being able to romance female Krogan (I suspect that will be your next rant)  Then i would have still come in here and told you to chill out all the same.  Me being a fan of Tali is somewhat irelevant.   I acctually hope we never see her face.... but wait a minute!  You're upset about not being able to see the quarian's faces, while everyone else in the game can, so that OBVIOUSLY makes you a closet Talimancer, or at the very least a cry baby which is universally defined as someone who complains when things don't go the way they want.

This forum is a place for posting one's opinions after all, and if me sarcastically pointing out that you need to just relax and maybe not take it so personaly that the Quarian Mystery is "Dumb"  <---- (quoted again for accuracy)  makes me a troll, then i will go find a bridge.  Thier are lots of them where I live so this should'nt be a real problem.  I might get cold though since its the middle of winter, so if i go sit under one i demand that you feel bad for me....at least a little.

In closing, I just wanted to ask, since you are an oracle, can you help me cheat at Black jack?  I'll split the winnings with you... 50 50 all the way...  :)  Afterwards we can high five and go get some chinese food.   ../../../images/forum/emoticons/happy.png

Nice wall of text. Who's angry now? Oh, I'm sure you'll inform me you're not upset in the slightest, that's why you're just wrote a thesis in the middle of my thread. Because of how much you don't care. Thanks for playing. I'm flattered you took so much time out of writing poetry for your imaginary videogame mutant girlfriend.

You fail so hard at reading comprehension, I don't know why I bother responding at all. You came in this thread trolling in the first place, now you seem amazed I don't want to listen to your bull****. You're the grown man with Posted ImageTali fuels all my boners mmmmmPosted Image in his signature, and somehow I'm the one who's taking all this too seriously?

The entire premise of your initial post is confusing. At what point was it stated that there are no existing pre-exodus pictures of Quarians? The fact that we aren't shown them is certainly to create some sort of air of mystery about them, but that has nothing to do with the world itself.

Oh, I know it's been pointed out to you before. You're making two separate arguments. That part of it is based on your own assumptions. The criticism of Bioware's attempt at creating some air of mystery is a valid one. It's your opinion, of course. I'm just saying I felt that the in-game lore provided a legitimate explanation for it. They've been living in the suits for so long that there is rumor and speculation in the game world as to what they look like now. It seems logical that someone would be able to look up what they looked like 300 years ago, but that isn't really the issue.

Did I agree with you? I agreed that you had an opinion. And I suppose I do agree that discussing it is probably pointless, since you made it pretty clear to begin with. So thank you for sharing.

I've always gone with pre-Geth quarian culture as being aniconic to an extreme degree.  Not just no images of divines, but not accepting any depiction of any living quarian.  Once the geth essentially ended their civilization, they lost their religion and became ok with recorded images, or they adapted their laws to allow for video recordings.

It at least explains why they quarians never invented the camgirl.

My initial argument was based on a misunderstanding, which I've admitted. And it wasn't an argument so much as an observation and statement of opinion. Upon being corrected, I modified the observation and opinion to reflect the new information. The only real points I am trying to express are that A) Keeping information from the player that everyone in the gameworld has is dumb and B) if it's not a secret in the gameworld, you'd think Shepard would be able to see some in-game evidence of it. He can't, which should bring us back around to point A.

As a supplemental point, these are just observations. I am upset in no way about it. Just observing.

Fornax has pictures of naked Quarians. 'nuff said.

Now, if Bioware want to keep building the mystery to us players, that is a different story. But ingame what Quarians look like is no mystery to anyone who is willing to do some research, or read spaceporn. :) However, IMHO this kind of mystery loses its appeal if there is no conclusion to it so at point of another Bioware has to show us what Quarians look like under that mask.

See, now that's interesting. I doubt we'll ever get confirmation one way or another, but that's a thoughtful way of getting around it. Thank you for sharing something interesting and informative instead of just trying to show the internet how clever you are.

Yep. You know, it's possible I just wanted to argue because I find you kind of rude. But I suppose I do agree with you. It is completely artificial.  I guess the only difference of opinion is how well they succeed.

But as a argument of game theory, it is kind of...cheap, might be the word? Deliberately witholding evidence from the player, when it clearly must exist within the game world. Though you could argue that tack has been used pretty well by other game companies. Valve has made a entire franchise out of that idea.

I'd also say I was annoyed by the Tali love scene. Not out of a desire to see what she looks like, but because it is a moment that takes you out of the gameplay. It's very clearly a "gotcha" moment that the delovopers inserted, and since you can't help but notice it, it breaks immersion.

It was only 300 galactic standard years ago that the Quarians screwed the Geth pooch and had to resort to being filthy space gypsies. Considering how advanced the civilizations of the galaxy are in general (I know the Quarians are known for their technical expertise, but if they were building AI 300 years ago and the rest of the galaxy already had enough experience with AI to have outlawed it, one can assume they had, y'know, cameras and ****) it doesn't really make sense to me that there is not one surviving picture of a Quarian without an environmental suit.

Obviously this is dictacted by the plot to give them an air of mystery and to drive Talimancers up the wall, but it just strikes me as Dumb with a capital D that there are literally no known depictions of what they actually look like and absolutely no one has any idea what their appearence really is.

Sorry if this has been discussed before, but I was sitting in traffic earlier and it just hit me.

a general lack of information is what drives a lot of ME2 anyways, so yeah

AFAIK they dont HAVE to wear their suits in ship, especially in the clean rooms where they keep their kids or take a shower. They just want to for precaution, and it is a good protection if something goes wrong (their ships are pretty much held together with duct tape) or someone brings something from outside and decontamination fails. Plus when Quarian couple wants to do copulate have to take their suits off, "linking suits" is just a way for them to get their weakened immunity system get used to each other.

I've seen a hundred threads on that particular argument. It's been rehashed so many times, when all explanation is actually already in the game.

I think that any reveal of a Quarian face should come with the death of Tali. Have her face mask smashed for some reason or other and then have Shep converse with her on her death bed. This would only work so long as the helmet stays on, otherwise it turns into a pseudo-Vader moment.

This way we can all finally see her mouth-tentacles and pig nose and be done with it.

Can you answer my questions?  which i asked all through out my, as you say, "trolling" (I say sarcastic) ...  Here they are, in the simplest terms using simple language, (and quoted directly )

If i should not have taken it literaly, than how should i have taken it?  Figuretivly?  Metaphoricaly?  Philosophicaly?   (Reffering to you telling me I took your original post too literally)

If i may ask, what in the world does me being a fan of Tali have to do with........well with anything?

(Reffering to the continued assumptions that I'm infatuated with an imaginary charecter because I voice my support for a final appearence by her in my forum signature)

And I'm quite content that i was able to wind up a complete stranger over something as silly as a charecter in  a video game.
Me and my real life mutant girl friend (not Tali, but she does have
three fingers and glowing eyes.) as well as my best friend and my
brother are all laughing at this.

So stop dodging my question by trying to make me out to be a troll.

And my point, Oracle, just for simplicities sake is that people, like yourself, are WAY too quick to be critical with minor story details.  The reveal of Tali's face is, for me, a real minor story detail and something i never spent too much time thinking about.  I don't care if they ever reveal it, and if they do, yay for me.  I can understand being critical of game play stuff, but come on....  This is a scifi game!  and so what if you can't see her or any other Quarian's faces?  That does'nt make the mystery "Dumb".  Just because YOU don't get to know the mystery does'nt make it dumb.

That's like saying Sheperd Book from Firefly and Serenity has a dumb
mystery because it's never revealed in the series (although apprently it
just recently did in the spin off media.

It's like people who walk into a movie that is obviously billed as a mindless action flick, then turn around and whine that the movie was horrible because it had no story.

Don't sweat the small stuff.

Something that occurred to me as well is that using Tali as part of the argument is a little silly. The concept of Quarians and their masks was created long before Tali become any sort of love interest. Bioware has said they never expected her to be one, so that part of the issue sort of falls away for me.

Apparently the original poster recieved a three day ban, and i know this because he just messaged me from a duplicate account, username deathtoTali.    I'm pretty sure having more than one forum account breaks some kind of rule, but who knows.  Who cares?

Poor guy.

Back on topic:   How many people here truly don't care if they ever see what a Quarian looks like?   I know, i know, its been beaten to death, but i figured i would ask.

She was supposed to be one from the start of Me1, so no. They cut that content because they never expected people to like her. But it was there from the start.

The true irony of this is  the fact that no one knew what she looked like.  I submit that it was this air of mystery that made her attractive to some people (me specifically)   The original poster, of course, thinks its "Dumb" that everyone else in the game world knows what quarians look like but not the player.

But yes, you are right.  She was supposed to be a love interest in the first game.
