I am still very excited, but some things make me VERY sad:

"Level-scaling makes a return." NOOOO!!

"There are 18 skills for players to learn, which is three down from Oblivion and eleven down from Morrowind." I already disapproved of the 'streamlining' in this area from Morrowind to Oblivion. This is very disappointing.

Everything else seems very positive, but the scaling is very unfortunate. I would have liked them to implement an alternate 'mode,' similar to Fallout:NV. Where things are essentially more realistic and difficult. It would be cool to turn off things like 'level scaling' (which for me detracts from immersion greatly) and 'fast travel,' and add considerations for nourishment, injuries, etc. I know some people would not enjoy that, but for those that miss the more unforgiving and authentic feel of Morrowind it would be awesome.

Either way, that's a definite pre-order.

It'll probably come later. New engine, new stuff to deal with when building one, etc.

Majority of modders already seem to be done with TES: IV Oblivion. They definitely want TES: V.

From what i've heard the Level-scaling works alot better now. Not sure about the specifics but thats what the chatter is saying.

18 skills isn't that bad. Mysticism is removed but its skill has been implemented into the other magic skills. Other two that were removed i'm not so sure about. Athletics and Acrobatics are believed to be combined and Speechcraft and Mercantile are believed to have been combined into Persuasion.

I personally preferred Fallout's leveling system over Oblivion's.

Speaking of which.

Did they say the leveling system was the same as Oblivions? As in Major and Minors skills level up by you doing stuff related to that skill over time while Attributes are increased during the level up screen?

Or is it going to be like Fallout and I invest skill points into my Major and Minor skills?

It's TES style. You level up skills by successful practice. But, there are no major skills anymore. The class system's gone, and higher skill values contribute to your experience to reach the next level. The more spread out your skills are, the longer you delay leveling up. The article doesn't say anything about the attribute system. Just that you can either level up your health, magicka, or stamina.

I was hoping the new RPG Would go back to it's roots also. A bit more like morrow wind. I liked the D&D feel of having total control over all aspects of my character(s). Also I was hoping they would get rid of the level cap to make it a bit more life like. you don't stop learning just because you hit a sertain age or whatever in RL so why should you in the game.

If they don't somehow block spamming skills to level up I'll be seriously pissed. That aspect was terrible. Fallout 3 did it right.

A dead king and civil war between secessionists and Imperial loyalists have potential for some interfaction politics. I'm hoping they don't remove politics to focus on killing demons like in Oblivion. The Battle for Castle Kvatch still irritates me for being so unsatisfying.

Very true.

Honestly, if the backstory and world are half as good as Morrowind's, I'll be thrilled.Image IPB FO3 seemed to be a step in the right direction again and hopefully, they'll continue that trend with Skyrim.

There's two things I'm hoping for. The new NPC AI would make it possible for them to farm and mine so the world makes more sense. And that Beth won't ignore the lore just to make Alduin a monster. It was fine with Mehrunes Dagon since he's just a monster, but Alduin being the Nordic Akatosh could also add a complicated dimension to the story.

I'm sure that the level scaling is improved from Oblivion, but I just detest the very idea of an entire world essentially 'baby-sitting' me. It is much more rewarding for me to build up my strength and finally make my way to the dangerous parts of the world and take on creatures that would annihilate lesser men. I remember in Morrowind when I could finally not have to run away from some of the more powerful creatures. For me, it feels more authentic and gives me a greater feel of accomplishment when things are not scaled. But, it's just my feeling, and I understand that.

As for the decrease in skills, it just bums me out. Everything seems to be going away from huge expansive options as they are undoubtedly harder to sell and lack mass appeal. I'm just the kind of gamer who wants an infinite amount of options to customize and personalize my character. I guess you could say the primary reason I play RPG's is the core 'Role Playing' aspect of changing, directing, manipulating, personalizing, and customizing my PC. But, as I said earlier, I realize that I am in the minority and have to accept that games are moving away from that style. :crying:

Level-scaling makes a return. Meaning: “The game eventually logs a huge storehouse of knowledge about how you’ve played, and subsequently tailors content to your capabilities and experiences. Entering a city, a young woman might approach you and beg you to save her daughter from kidnappers. The game will look at the nearby dungeons you’ve explored, automatically set the mission in a place you’ve never visited, and designate opponents that are appropriately matched to your strengths and weaknesses.”

*Sigh*, when will the people at Bethesda learn that level scaling is crap? What is the point of leveling if everything is scaled down to your character? I guess from the sounds of it there are a few randomly generated quests and it makes sense they will be scaled to your level however I was really hoping that dungeons and certain areas in the outside world would be unneffected by the level scaling crap, hopefully this time around weapons of a superior quality wont be given out like candy once you reach a certain level and the more important dungeons (or at least the ones with worthwhile loot) will be a fixed level making you have to actually work your way up to them however I cant say that I am extremely hopeful.

Oh well everything else looks pretty cool though, doubtful that spears and halberds will make a return but at least there is dual wielding.

It's probably a lot better, but I wish it weren't included. Level scaling had universal hatred in Oblivion, so I have no idea why they would include it in Skyrim. It has almost no pros, and overwhelming cons.

I'm going to be pissed if you can kill a dragon with a beginning-of-game flare spell. It annoyed me how the Arena Grand Champion and Mannimarco could be slaughtered with level 1 spells. No battle in Oblivion was ever tough, because illusion magic alone turned you into a god.

Holy crap that looks amazing. Not only do the environments look great as usual, the characters look like people!

The one shot with the blonde woman is such a massive improvement with the characters.

Haha. That was going to be my comment. Damn you for stealing my joke! :pinched:

As expected, looks alot better than Oblivion. Now there's only one thing left to whine about, HIRE MORE VOICEACTORS. New Vegas was embarrassing, it seemed like you hired 3 voice actors to do all the not-that-important npc voiceovers.

I wouldn't worry about the level scaling, there's bound to be mods released for that.
