They've only started the polishing stages I'd assume, everything is done now time to make it look better. Two months is longer than you think and by the time it's done I'm sure it'll look great.

QFT.

I take it no one listened to the devs when they said the last few months were when they began to polish everything (textures, animations, and such).

I've never seen a game suddenly and significantly visually upgrade three months before release. Ever.

Well, when the people who hate it and the people who love it cite the same reasons, they've probably succeeded in their stylistic goal. I don't think the resolution is really the issue here, but rather the modeling and the shaders/textures. Some people like it, some people (me) think it's really awful. Still, since we generally agree on what we're talking about, I'm, guessing this is the look they'd hoped to achieve, however inexplicable I may find it.

Thats more or less what I'm confused about- I can't tell if the "look" that we're seeing is chalked up to the new art style or if its just unfinished graphics. If they're going to go with some stylized look, I'd rather they go all out Prince of Persia style
Posted Image
so that its obviously stylized and you can clearly tell what its trying to do. With everything I've seen of DA2 I can't tell if its just crummy graphics on a technical level or if its what they're aiming for. It seems stuck in the middle between aiming for realism and an obviously stylized look, whereas at least with Origins you knew they were aiming for realism.

I suppose what people say about graphics not being the most important thing is true, but in this day and age people have come to expect good graphics - or at the very least for a sequel to look better than the first game. It is a visual medium.

I don't really give a damn about graphics, but they keep japing about how graphics are better and they've probably spent a lot of time and budget on that unnecessarily since IMO the graphics in the new trailer look like absolute crap, far worse than DAO and incredibly low resolution

Agreed

that is...IF the sebastian video is representative of the latest build, which i really doubt it is, my guess is that they record these videos quite a bit ahead of time before releasing them.

I think there is more layering in the armor models and overal in the game, I thought everything looked kinda flat in DA:O

I'm not one to usually pay attention to the technical level of graphics unless they are really high or really low.

In the DA2 footage so far I notice the messy low resolution textures both on character models and environments. I dislike the cheap looking UI as well. Graphics alone never made a good game but somehow I was expecting more from an AAA 2011 release, something at least on par with ME2. DA2 definitely does not look "super hot" as advertised by Bioware.

Meh.

I see the same amount of layering, minus the stupid looking shoulderpads.

that isn't a very fair comparison, the pic on the left is one of the first few pics released and most likely from a very very old build and the pic on the right is from a finished product that i suspect is from the pc version with the graphical options on high.

I was talking about the flatness, not the layering. To me, the picture on the left looks flatter in every sense. Regarding whether it's a fair comparision, these are the images we have and what people are comparing verbally, so I don't see the unfairness. It's just an illustration of the conversation.

well if you say to people that your product is significantly better in the visual compartment than the previous one than you have to think about all the paltforms in witch it was released.
Did they intend that dao 2 is significantly better than the dao console version but a lot worse than the pc version???
However judging from the graphics in this pic i suspect that they are both pc and both on high

Hawke and the background textures are being FOVed away though, while the Cailan's armor is in focus in the DAO picture. And I still think DAO is way too baroque and over detailed.

I don't think the FOV makes that much of a difference, given the three dimensionality and lighting on Bethany's breasts, even though she's further away.

I know graphics are in some way a bit important, but come on! (excuse my bad english) we're talking about Dragon Age :D the awesome game that came to our homes and stole our hearts, i obviously gonna sound crazy i know how this sounds but, at  the end of it, when the credits where rolling i started to cry :( i just felt, i dont know, very imersed into the game i really dont know how to express it but its just a game i know, but seriously, think about it, do the graphics really mean a veary big deal in this game?, i know that they should look better, and im not saying that the devs should get lazy on that, but i really loved it with those graphics, and im an console gamer, so dont let me start talking about graphics..... Bioware is doing a great job and they're trying to look for new ways to entertain us, they gave us thiss game so at last, we should give them a little break and just enjoy the awesome history and those tempting new moves... anyway i sure didnt liked a lot those mmm improved Darkspawns but i just deal with it and keep those opinions between my head and the table xD

..... im not crazy, i just love hitting my head :B

I fully expect the story and characters to be fantastic, that goes without saying. I'll be very pleased if I find DA2 as immersive as DA:O, but there are so many elements in DA2 that, for me, are distancing, I worry about that, though. This is just one of them, but it's moved from being one of my lesser concerns to being pretty far forward.  I was very concerned that when Sebastian was talking, I could barely pay attention to him because I was so distracted by how peculiar I thought he looked, how very, very white and yellow his clothing was, and wondering what the heck it was made of. I'll be thrilled if I'm wrong, of course.

All of that is nice but that doesn't mean it should be overlooked. If the graphics are not very good I will see that as a con.

It's obvious that the graphic are worse.
Look at the textures of clothes...really i am shocked that previewers talk a lot about improved graphics.....maybe the didn't see the game and copy/pastes the PR sheets...

Previews will never say anything bad about a game especially those from big developers or publishers as the site/magazine want to continue to have a good relationship with them.  If some site said in a preview that the graphics suck and look horrible compared to DA:O do you think EA/BioWare would give them exclusives or preview copies?

I know what you mean but at the end of everithing is not in our hands :( im placing a lot of hopes with this one, and im just ignoring the fact that there are people calling this game mmm you know all those awfull things, i have to admit i was one of those little peoples, if my cousing didnt force me to play it well, lets just say that i was a moron and i was mistaken when i played this game, it was WOW for me you know, it gave me a whole new perspective and here i am, a very crazy little person that loves to slay Darkspawns, and hearing the hilarious comments and banters of Shale an all the gang, i am inside DA:O universe, and i am happy the way it is, if the devs are planing to upgrade the next one, they have my blessing, if not, well, i would love if this new game steals my heart, is going to sound way to nuts but its like your own child, you dont love him/her because (citting Shale) its cute or has a blonde hair and blue eyes, noo, you love it cause its part of you, it is something you will love the way it is, i know it sonuds very very crazy but, i feel something like that, i just hope that every single gamer that is waiting for his/her DA:2 gets what he or she is expecting, cause i love it now even with those little things ( New Darkspawns <_<) and never again im going to be such a mmm moron, yes^_^

It's less that I care so much about graphics and more that I'm just frustrated because ME2 did so much better.

I realize these games work with two different engines, but there is barely anything I'm seeing visually that ME2 didn't do at least significantly better. Textures, lighting, character models, facial animation, ect. You name it.

Bioware still refuses to add details like bowstrings and weapons actually strapped to the body. A Rouge wearing daggers floating behind their back just looks stupid. Heck, simply wearing daggers by the shoulders and not on a belt is stupid-looking enough. ME2 has details like those. Why not put in the effort to include them here, too?

It's upsetting that DA2 looks worse than a year-old game from the same company.

Man! i should stop writting so much, i got inspired around this places :? anyway i know what you're saying, i dint say that i love poligonal or square shaped characters in the plain 2011's and no waay im suggesting that they overlook anything, like i said, they're small things that still are bothering me (Darkspawns) but at the end, i get used to those things an move on, just as i said in another comment, i love the way it is, no mather what, and it's just my opinion, i really hope that DA:2 never dissapoints you, i know that feeling well but what can we do?, its just the great sense of humor of life..... now that i think of it, im beggining to think that maybe Shale is god :o that would explain a loooot of things in this world of ours.
