This. If Thane doesn't die, I'll be disappointed.
His final goodbye to Shepard before his death has the potential to easily become the most memorable endings to a romance sub-plot. Besides, its not like those who romanced Thane did not know about his illness; Bioware isn't trying to pull a fast one here.

Well I imagine this ending: Shep destroyed the reapers but kept the flagship for his/her own.
After punching the turian councilor in the face, shep goes and kill TIM and takes his/her place as Cerberus Leader.
With the Shadow Broker network and resources,
Shep helps Tali to find a new Home world for the Quarians, and ensures that the council returns the embassy for her people.
In the end he goes back with Liara and have a lot of blue babies.
Thats a happy ending!

my shepherd didnt romance him but i do want thane to spend his last moments with "the only friend [he] made in 10 years."
