When was the moment you fist knew that the ME series was something special? What was the first in game event that let you know that this was a truley epic journey? When was the first time you were fully captivated by the ME universe? WHat kind of experiences like these would you like to see in ME3?
When you first knew...

I would say that mine came too late. Like after Virmire, because before ME for me wasn't that special.
Coincidently it is exactly where the story gets hotter.

The first moment I knew this (spontanous and completely unintended) buy was not in vein: The opening.
The first moment I knew this game was good: The events to the end of Eden Prime and the Citadel.
The first moment I knew this game was special: When reading the codex and falling in love with a dev-team that had managed to create a totally believable and coherent SciFi universe despite things like FTL and space magic.
The first moment I ran out of words to describe what I just experienced: Virmire!

The first ever trailer at x06 was special. That's what got me so hyped for the original game. I just kinda followed it from there. There weren't many people on the forums back in those days :-)

Production values seemed to be very high right from the start but arriving to Citadel and presidium for a first time made feel like that this is something else...
As for what kind of experiences I wish for ME3 I would say good story of course and Sense of Wonder. ME2 was also really great experience for me and felt at least as good as ME.

When I started playing the game.
Compared to the shooters we have been fed with in the last couple of years it was nice getting a game that suddenly focused on the story and telling of the story again.

when i saw the trailer at E3 years ago. I automatically knew it was something special plus when i saw Bioware was the ones who were making it I said i have to get that game. ( i was hoping for KOTOR 3 at the time but Mass Effect has completly stolen my interest)

Probably somewhere in the first third of ME2, when I go hooked to the story and wasn't bothered by underwhelming RPG features (because I stopped viewing this game as a true RPG) and repetitive planet exploration/item collection/"clearing the same warehouse over and over again". ME1 didn't impress me that much. On the bright side, I started ME2 completely spoiler-free because of it.

I was taken in at the opening. I still get goosebumps when I see it. If they ever get the ME film off the ground, I truly hope they keep that opening sequence.

Never. I see Mass Effect as another game series. Not much magical about it to be honest.

The E3 2006 trailer. And then was ultimately disappointed when ME1 felt like crap compared to that trailer and all the stuff they promised us.

Honestly?
When vigil played at the start up. I just really dug the whole tone and mood of character creation, Captain Anderson and Ambassador Udina's discussion... Even Eden Prime. I was sucked in immediately.

Perhaps I'm easy to impress, but the first scene that really captivated me was right after the landing on Eden prime. There's a really amazing view from atop a cliff.
Other moments that captivated me: First Citadel visit, Virmire, the invasion of the Citadel. Oh, and the love scenes. Mainly Liara's.
The things that really impressed me in the 2nd game was... well Omega, the "new" Citadel, and Illium. Really loved all these places.

I first felt the Mass Effect series was going to be epic at the opening of Mass Effect 1 when the Normandy was going through it paces before hitting the Relay. It all looked beautiful! I continued to feel this way as I played. Landing on Eden Prime, seeing the Citadel for the first time....the battle at the Citadel was epic all by itself. The whole time I played through Mass Effect 1 I could feel it, one event after another. It still feels epic in Mass Effect 2 as well.

Yeah, I agree - the E3 2006 trailer sealed the deal for me; the main reason I bought a 360.
