Yeah, along these lines.
Early trailers were also pretty good, but unfortunately not all the stuff from those trailers was in the game.

The E3 2006 trailer. And then was ultimately disappointed when ME1 felt like crap compared to that trailer and all the stuff they promised us.

I knew this series was special after watching the promotional DVD you got for pre-ordering the first one. I hadn't really been following the development up until then. Casey Hudson's hyping wizardy sold me, and unlike a Lionhead Studios game hyped by Peter Molyneux, there was no feeling of hype-product dissonance.

They'd built a new sci-fi world for a new generation that didn't make me roll my eyes with disinterest like Stargate does.

Oh you've no idea the ammount of threads like that there were back when ME1 was first released. The Mako, the crappy inventory, elevators, the crappy boring sidequests, the short length etc.

Since I started my Mass Effect experience with ME2,I'd have to say it was when I was on Horizon.Don't really know why.But then, when I decided to play ME1 I had the most amazing feeling in both games when I first saw the Citadel.Pure perfection.

"Well what about Shepherd? Earthborn, but no record of his family"
"Doesn't have one. He was raised on the streets. Learned to look for himself."
"Got most of hs unit killed on Torfan."
"He gets the job done. No matter what the cost."
"Is that the kind of person we want protecting the galaxy?"
"That's the only kind of person who can protect the galaxy."
"I'll make the call."

My favorite intro in a game. Sets the stage for drama and got me attached to the first Shepherd I made.

I'm going to sound like a complete fanboy here, but when I saw that it was a sci-fi game made by bioware that they were going to have complete control over, i.e. not limited to the star wars universe. KOTOR was awesome, don't get me wrong. Complete creative freedom because it's an original universe is just better imo.

The scene where you first see the Citidal. Pure science fiction epicness!

When I learned it was the same type of game as KOTOR and Jade Empire, plus it was made by the same people.

The first glimmering was the Ilos trench run. Part of me was wondering if I should shoot those armatures, and the other part was looking at the timer counting down and going "oh ****". The finale went on to substantiate that. But if we're talking about the ephipany that says this is the definitive RPG for me: it was ME2 that totally blew me away.

I'm in the middle of my second ME1 playthrough right now, and oh god, how much I detest the gameplay compared to ME2.

I'd have to say... it was the Intro for me, that slow music that paced to the dramatic "Mass Effect" title. Then Saren. Then visiting the Citadel (and the intro cinematic), making me go "ooooooh.. wooowwww....". Really good stuff, those 3 will always remain in my mind. A single moment? Can't choose xD

When was the moment you fist knew that the ME series was something special? What was the first in game event that let you know that this was a truley epic journey? When was the first time you were fully captivated by the ME universe? WHat kind of experiences like these would you like to see in ME3?

I love space opera..but to be honest, at the first moment that I played mass effect, I really didn't like it...the prologue was so long and i thought it was boring...then..they sent me to the "chora's den"...i ****ing loved that place...but still the game wasn't like what i wanted...i continued playing and they made shepard and spectre and gave him a ship and the "galaxy map"!!! damn! that blowed my mind, i started travelling around the galaxy and started loving mass effect...wich was (and is) a  underrated piece of art.
Mass effect converted in my primary space opera series...i just love this damn game!
after that...came mass effect 2...wich brought illium, Afterlife...i was amazed

When you first encounter the beacon on Eden Prime. I was under the impression before that the game would only be a couple hours long. When Sheppard encountered the beacon and the following events with the Council, I was like, "This just got real."

i was actually just walking out of FLUX with my squad and for some reason it just hit me; "wow this is something special". i guess it was a combination of everything that had come before.

When I met Conrad Verner.

Or, well, seeing the Citadel for the first time and that little "size"-banter between Ashley and Joker. For me, that managed to set the mood for the entire game. :)

What managed to reel me in completely, however, was Noveria and the decision you had to make on Peak 15. Also: Virmire.

Saren and Nihlus together for the first (and last) time. Before that, I was in love with the game, but after that scene, I was engaged to the series.

When Wrex confronted me on Virmire. It wasn't at all comparable to... well, what I felt throughout every second of KotOR, but... I was sucked in at that moment.

I felt absolutely amazed when Shepard first explored the Presidium. There was such a genuine feeling of wonder and immersion, and it really did feel like I was being absorbed into a wonderfully well-crafted sci-fi universe.

To a lesser extent, the entirety of the intro also captivated me. Small things like the banter between Joker and Kaidan, and Nihlus' commanding presence felt absolutely great.

Wait a minute, that's not how it went! I'm pretty sure it went something like this:

"Well, what about Shepard? He grew up in the colonies."
"He lost his parents in a pirate raid - he knows how tough life can be out there."
"He saw his whole unit die on Akuze. He could have some serious emotinal scars."
"Is that the kind of person we want protecting the galaxy?"
"It's the only kind that can protect the galaxy"
"I'll make the call..."

You'd better make a post in the technical forum - there seems to be an issue with your came copy. Posted Image
