Ok. I guess I will go. I first knew the game was going to be awesome when I first landed on the citadel. I fist knew this game was special when I gave the speech to my crew when i got a hold of the Normandy and we were set to go hunt saren.
When you first knew...

Good question, very good question actually. I love to try to remember when something first passed by my mind.
.
I'll have to think a little. I bought Mass Effect some time after it was released, and along side with Bioshock (another excellent game btw). I know in the beginning I was divided by the two games but there was a point I couldn't stop playing ME. Now, when? I'll think about it.

I first became interested after friends of mine whose opinions I trust a lot started gushing about the games. Then, after ME2 came out, I watched the Zero Punctuation review and was like "hmm, sounds interesting". Finally I ended up playing the ME2 demo and absolutely loved it. I'm not entirely sure why. I think it was because it was the first real RPG I played, and I just loved all the dialogue options and the different characters.
I guess the moment I was sold on it was when you first meet Miranda. That whole conversation was just awesome.

Now that I think about it, it was actually the intro.

*Sheepishly* Mass Effect wasn’t all that exciting to me, there was never really a time that I felt like I couldn’t pull myself away.
Maybe because I started it AFTER playing DA:Origins? (Or it could be that it was my first PC game and I had NO idea how to use the mouse and keyboard).
But I stuck with it, and then moved on to ME2. I was blown away. Omega absolutely roped me in.

When I first got to the Citadel. Amazingly enough, I hadn't played video games for a while again until 09. Personally I think the ME universe is one of the greatest sci fi stories ever. I'd like to see more stories/comics etc in the future. I remember when I was first reading the Codex on ME1. I was like "Good Lord, these guys really did their homework, this tech seems real!" lol

ME2 title screen with music was a pretty good indication.
ME1 ending was great, as well.

Citadel, Virmire, Ilos, and perhaps Ilium / Omega. I'd definitely love such moments in ME3.

"Walking" off the ship onto the citadel docking area and looking around, yes the cutscenes was very enjoyable, but it was when I was able to take control of my character and explore a fantastic new world.

I was fully captivated by the ME universe from the first moment of the first game. When the Normandy passed through the relay. I realized that it would be something incredible! And I was right.

The Citadel.
Walking around the presidium and the wards, talking to random aliens and being generally just blown away by it all.
Shortly after getting Garrus, Tali and Wrex on my squad just added to it all, just thinking back reminds me of how awesome the citadel experiance was for me.
The rest of the game had its moments... driving the MAKO endlessly didn't... but then Virmire onwards really made ME special for me.
I guess that's what I miss most in ME2, the scope of the citadel, the countless NPC's and little missions (including hanar), and the virmire style mission ending a place that really captured ME1 for me.
In terms of ME2 though, I would have to say Illium, just walking around the Normandy and talking to everyone (ignoring the whole callibrations thing), and the suicide mission/ LotSB is what made ME2 special to me.
If ME3 can feel as epic and large as ME1 and be as polished and diverse as ME2 it will be a truely great game.

Does it count if I said before I actually played it.
I did not buy ME at launch, I waited about a week or two before I went out and spent my hard earned cash on it. That gave me plenty of time to read the many reviews, most of which insisted that ME was the best thing to come along since sliced bread. A 3rd person shooter with RPG elements, why hadn't someone done this before? I don't really like shoting games ( I hate FPS's ) but I loved the Gears of War games so on paper ME seemed like an obviously great thing.
The Intro was good and Eden Prime was Awesome but the game began to drag once I got to the Citadel, it wasn't untill I had completed Therum and Noveria that ME started living up to it's potential, that's when I knew I was playing somthing special.

Christina Norman's class videos for ME2. I was never remotely interested in Mass Effect before that, so I pre-ordered ME2. I got ME1 while waiting and was underwhelmed (I never made it off the Citadel before I started ME2) ME2 hooked me in right from the get go.
Walking out into the zero g atmosphere with the lid ripped off the Normandy stands out as the moment when I said, "This is gonna be good"
I've since played ME1 5x and ME2 11x in the past year - great series.

May sound stupid but it was way before the game was released. I got a copy of Edge (gaming magazine) for the Assassin's Creed article. Set in my bathtube and wanted to read it when I came across the huge Mass Effect article. So I read that one instead. When I went out of the already cold water I then and there knew this game will be something awesome. And it is.

Probably like others it was landing on the Citadel and seeing the presidium for the first time. The musical score is really nice and conveys that magic sense of wonder about the place. The thing that cemented my love for the game was Virmire and Kirahe's speach. That instantly made Salarians my favourite race.

They'd built a new sci-fi world for a new generation that didn't make me roll my eyes with disinterest like Stargate does.
You will be destroyed.
(unless you're just talking about Universe, in which case I totally understand)

When about 20 people at school demanded I buy it. No game has ever received so many positive comments from the bunch of grumpy naysayers who I hang round with

When was the moment you fist knew that the ME series was something special? What was the first in game event that let you know that this was a truley epic journey? When was the first time you were fully captivated by the ME universe? WHat kind of experiences like these would you like to see in ME3?
Well, I was eagerly anticipating this game ever since it was announced. I loved KOTOR and when I heard they were doing an original science fiction game, I couldn't wait.
The moment I first knew this would be something special was at the very beginning when I saw my female Shepard walk toward Joker. Her movements were of a woman to be respected. When the camera pans onto a close up of her face, I remember getting chills. She had this look of control and it was also amazing to see my creation come to life. Right then, I knew that this would be special.
ME2 felt at times, like this wasn't Shepard's game anymore. I would like ME3 to shift focus back onto her. I'd love more backstory missions and an epic storyline for my favorite video game character of all time.

I didn't have much experience with games before ME1. The thing that grabbed me immediately was the custom face of Shepard, and the fact that SHE actually spoke in the cutscenes, rather than just having a line of text to choose. Very cinematic. Then the story and characters grabbed me (especially the Council, Captain Anderson, Liara and Kaidan), and I was hooked!
