Come join us in our:

Kaidan Alenko Prompt Project

Approximately once every few weeks we create a prompt to allow our Authors and Artists a chance to put there talents out there for a minor bit of competition.  The winner gets to create the new prompt.  So if you have always wanted to draw or write, come join us in the KAAS... just click on the link here and give it a go.

Image IPB

******

The Prompt Project is now closed.  There were no votes for the last prompt and only two entries.  I always enter, and it seems to be a promote Night thing, and to be honest, I am not that into myself.  There is no reason to continue without participants.

Any questions, You know where to find me.

******

Prompt Start Time:Tuesday, May 24th, 6:00 pm PST

The Prompt:

BEFORE & AFTERWell it seems you want romance.  Romance between Shepard and Kaidan, so lets do that.  Summer is coming, so let's do vacation.  Now I don't want to see the actual vacation... what I want is the preparation for the vacation - then the results of the vacation.  Lets do ME1 - before the destruction of the Normandy, so they have to hide the preparations (and maybe the results *cue sinister laugh*).

Okay, so have at it and have fun with it.

Location: On the ship or in port, as long as it is NOT the actual vacation!

(Anyone who writes, draws or Photoshop’s the actual vacation, will be disqualified)

Setting:
Any time before the destruction of the Normandy.

Creation Time ends:
Wednesday, June 8th, 6:00 am PST Voting begins at 6:01am

Voting Time ends:
Sunday, June 12th, 8:00 am PST

Time Limit:
You may take as long as necessary.

Come on, let's have some fun!!!

We have entered the Voting Phase.  Remember if you are not a member of the KAAS and you want to read the posts, PM me and I will send them to you.  Then you can vote by sending it to me!!

Remember - Send your votes to me!!!!

Also any questions, ask me. Always, anytime, anything.

Remeber the voting process has changed.

You can only vote for one person!!! – If you need to absolutely vote for two, you must do what Fearless Leader says and write a two page, (no Dae, I think page is reasonable… Really?… No, it’s not fair!... Okay, if you say so... You're in charge ...) okay, two paragraphs, PM detailing why you decided that torturing Night was better than picking only one prompt. I will then submit it to Fearless Leader (since it was his idea, and why should I have to suffer at anyone else’s hands, besides his) and have it corrected for grammar and content. At that point, if he doesn’t send it back for revisions, I might actually consider accepting the two (and only two*, I am serious about that) votes.

* Two votes equals 1/2 vote each.

We have entered the No Phase, Send your votes to me!!!

Any questions about the KAST, KAAS or if there is anything else I can help you with, just contact me!!

Come on in and have some fun!!!

Kaidan's calm and collected. But is it to a fault? Is he too cautious?

From a relationship perspective there would definitely have to be a discussion about it in order to move on in the relationship. I'm stalled on the Shenko fic, but I know that my Shep is going to have a line like "you are going to have to start trusting me someday"

But hopefully when Kaidan feels like he is in a safe place, he would be more likely to open up.

I think it can be a fault, depending on the situation, but I think it generally serves him well. The number of situations that call for diving in feet first is amazingly small. He provides a good foil for Shepard, who is generally presented as almost a force of nature. They balance each other.

Sometimes I think he's surprisingly mature for not main male character in video game. Lack of "great Revenge" and dead wife serves surprisingly well, too

I am now putting it on record that I actually had no problem with the meeting on Horizon. Kaidan didn't know Shepard was dead, didn't know why she was with Cerberus, didn't know why someone he felt would never have joined Cerberus was working with them. And all he knew was that Shepard never saw fit to explain why to him before being forced to by a chance meeting on Horizon. He was hurt and he sought to hurt Shepard in return because he viewed her absence as a betrayal of trust to him.

And I admit that the meeting did hurt the first time (and second and third time) that I put myself through it, and I wish there had been an option for Shepard to really yell back at Kaidan. But in the heat of the moment, as an argument is happening, who really has the presence of mind to say just the right thing to make it all better? In that respect, I found the fact that the argument ended poorly as realistic. I like realistic sometimes in my games.

By the way, quoting Collider is going to show up as quoting me because I had to edit it. Sorry for the confusion.

In any case, I actually don't find any evidence one way or the other that Kaidan acts too cautious. I do question his ability to make tough calls based on what he tells Shepard about the Rachni decision once they're on the ship. Having the Council make the call was not an option, so wishing it was is... well, wishful thinking on his part.

Jolly Good!

Well, in the spirit of a new thread:

Here’s why I like Kaiden Alenko. In addition to the competence and professionalism EDIT - and loyalty - END EDIT, which are so much a part of Kaiden, and which others have noted far better than I, I like Kaiden because of his potential.

I feel that Kaiden Alenko has the diverse experience, undeniable talent, and moderate temperament that only one other character in Mass Effect, apart from Shepard, has (that being Miranda).

In other words, should (GF) Shepard fall, it is Kaiden who is most likely to take up Shepard’s banner.

First page!

Kaidan is my favourite human character. He is intelligent and sharp, but also caring. And cuz this thread has started anew, I would just like to show my appreciation for Kaidan Alenko! But in concern to Horizon, it seemed to me that Kaidan was putting his career above his feelings for Shepard. Maybe this is because he has considered Shepard dead and had to stop his feelings for her in order to move on. But when she was brought back to life by Cerberus, he was so adamant on staying clear of Cerberus due to alliance loyalty, that his feelings for Shepard were secondary to that.

Anyway, new to the Kaidan threads, so just wanted to know your thoughts :)

I hate Horizon.

Something i like about Kaidan: He is that special type of badass you never realise is a badass until somebody tells you. You tell them it cannot possibly be so, and try to think of ways to disprove them.....and then you realise it's true.

He has a kind of quite, understated strength.

Neither do I. It is a realistic twist, and I understand Bioware did it to clear the way for ME2 LI's. But I play it in different ways and it just seems irregular with Kaidan's character.

By the way, it is so cool that the Kaidan thread lasted so long! It shows the maturity of the posters there despite trolls!

So very much this.

My issue with Horizon isn't Kaidan's reactions though he is OOC, it's that the whole thing just comes across as a cheesy plot device to give the player an excuse to move on to one of the ME2 LIs.

The writing of Horizon in my opinion just plain sucks and I hope whoever wrote it goes nowhere near ME3.

Edit:  And since it's a new thread!

I have done that one, it made my husband look at me like I was retarded while I laughed myself stupid.

To go on record, I understand why the arguement on Horizon happened. I hate it, it breaks my heart everytime but I don't blame Kaidan at all. I believe there is some plot that we don't see full right now. However... I do blame Shepard for not fighting back. For being the crazy amazonian warrior woman that she is you would think she would put up more of a fight. I know she realizes its been two years, she might not have moved on but he had, and she doesn't want to match in a demand him back at her side, and all that. But blood hell woman! Get mad! Throw a fit! Punch someone! The garage guy whould be ideal...

This actually made me laugh and I usually don't read Horizon one shots on ff.net but I follow the author's Alien 3 A/U fic.

Shepard yells back:

Curious to know, do you think the fault in Horizon has to do with how Kaidan is written (as in, do you think he was out of character) or in the way Shepard was written? Because I really understood Kaidan's anger, and felt it was in keeping with his character, but none of the responses from Shepard would be what my Shepards would have said. Way too passive on her part.

The problem with Horizon is being a player forced into a plot path they hate and having a close friend hate you for it.

Yeah, they need to force us along certain plot paths, but they shouldn't have a close friend yell at  us for a decision we didn't make.

In my opinion Kaidan was out of character in that he wasn't willing to hear Shepard out.  The worst of Horizon however was how they wrote Shepard.  They make such a huge deal about what an eloquent speaker Shepard is but then on Horizon she just turns into a babbling idiot.

And yes, Shepard is far too passive on Horizon.
