Liara and Shepard also link bodies, naked, on a bed................ performing a sexual act in human terms. I have no problem with it, but let's call a spade a spade, it is pretty much exactly the same as Shep and Ash + Shep and Kaidan, so either they are having sex as we know it............ Or their idea of *melding* is what we think of as sex.

There isn't a special mind melding scene that involves nothing sexual (imagine the nerd rage)

It is clearly a very divisive issue, so agreeing to disagree is the only path we all have left if we wish to maintain group cohesion, surely?

And this is the Kaidan thread so we are allowed to be biased towards Kaidan in all discussions, surely? Also................ I agree with you on that point ^ Sesh :-)

I'm a fan of the curly hair as well.  Posted Image

Personally I thought Kaidan was completely in character on Horizon, and I totally understood why he ws angry. I know a lot of people think that Kaidan would have waited for Shepard to explain but Shepard was too busy derping, and Kaidan would have been in shock. It's one thing to hear rumours that Shepard's alive, but another to actually have someone you thought for 2 years was dead standing in front of you.

In the romance in ME1, he tells Shepard when they steal the Normandy that he wouldn't be there if he didn't think they were doing the right thing, so it was nice to see a character actually stick to their convictions and not just follow Shepard blindly because she/he is Shepard.

But we all read into things differently which is not a bad thing. I don't think anyone is right or wrong in this case

I must agree with sesheta here.

In this whole farce that was Horizon, he was the only one, in my opinion, who was in character.

just chiming in on horizon...

i think part of the problem is that it was a shameless moment of railroading in the story. kaidan HAD to walk away for the sake of whatever plot device it was the writers had(have) up their sleevies (and because, let's face it, having ash/kaidan as a squaddie for me2 when the other one was gone would have been very resource-draining and i just don't think they wanted to go there for 2 whole games.)

so by that decision alone, it's going to ****** some people off. i think at that point, so many people had head-canoned shep and kaidan's relationship - be it lovers, friends, otherwise - and it was going to be jarring no matter what.

top it off by the fact that what (imho) should have been a scene handled with kid gloves by the writers was just hacked at in this merciless fashion. there really was no accounting for all the nuances of shepard and kaidan's relationship. it was just sort of like "okay, we need to take this back to square one" and it was done. i keep thinking of ways it could have gone better, but hey, there you go.

for my shep, it worked. for me, it worked. i bought it, and i could see this as a reasonable response from kaidan and i think of my shep as having total derp moments - so i bought it. but for other people, who renegaded kaidan to be anti-council, or who see their shep as a silver-tongued siren whom no one can resist, or just see their shep as unwilling to let him walk away - yeah, i can see how it just doesn't work with a lot of people's ideas of shep and kaidan.

again, i see that they made this "range" of relationships available between shep and kaidan, and then hacked it down to a single outcome. for some people, it works (however painful) - for others, it just really doesn't gel.

/peeks inside my head
/recoils in terror
/peeks back in horrified fascination

I should go O_O

/sneaks back in for a second.  it didn't help one bit that they gave Kaidan very limited dialogue as well, it wasn't just Shepard.  the only real difference in a scene is that if you pick couple of specific options you can also get him to confess his love and if you romanced him, there's a hug.  otherwise, its "jocker is waiting for you on the bridge" all over again :/

yes, I have replayed that particular scene on the same character multiple times, hoping I can say something, anything to at least change it somewhat :/  you can make it worse, but you cannot make it better :/

maybe if they made it a possibility for him to walk away still (since they couldn't allow VS to be potencialy killed in suicide mission) but with a bit more understanding, kinda like Liara not joining you, or tali not joining you when you first see her (I have other responcibilities right now sort of reason).  but if the last DLC does revolve around VS and Shepard coming to terms with them, one way or another, then they couldn't do that either since it would pretty much nulify the point for some of the people.

I guess we shall see sometimes soon...I hope.

Yes... the question of VS-dlc =) horizon isn't much of a high-point. I started with ME2 and got ME afterwards. Don't know if there should have been a flashback or something before that sceen, don't need it now that I've finished ME but remember being a bit confused as to who he was and why he was mad at me when doing ME2 for the first time. Wonder how it will be for the people who start of with ME3. But yes, now that I have a shepard who romances Kaidan that scene is no fun at all. I just try to remind myself that it's needed for the plot and good things hopefully comes to those who waits. The LI:s in ME2 didn't really catch me in the same way as Kaidan, it was a really great surprise when I got that game.

My Shepard would be the 'Silver-Tongued Siren." I like description by the way. I justified Horizon as she LET him walk away. She was afraid that Cerberus knew they could use him to manipulate her. Since she is a colonist she obsessed need to help colonist, so much so that she would 'sell her soul to the devil' to help them. What kind of kills that is her "I could use someone like you." But whatever.

What makes me say the whole Horizon thing was out of character is mainly because both Ash and Kaidan's dialogue is exactly the same. They could have had the same out come but with slightly different dialogue that would carter to the two very different characters. I mean their letters they send later are different why couldn't the conversations be?

Put frankly, what are you talking about? You are the one telling Kaidan/Ashley that you are with Cerberus before they chew your head off. They're not believing any rumours before you confirm the rumours are true.

"Cerberus rebuilt me and I'm investiagating missing colonies =/= I'm Cerberus' puppet."

They're angry because you tell them you're with Cerberus now. And, you are! You are with Cerberus now. Tali and Garrus are also working for Cerberus. It doesn't much matter why Tali and Garrus would work for Cerberus, they are.

Ah yes and they don't think that it might be for a good reason? Like I said. Refusing to think beyond the surface and acting like a child with a black/white morality.

No, they're not family. Maybe family could be expected to be so insanely gullible as to think "Oh, I should hear this person out" after someone was dead for two years and suddenly turned up saying "Hey, how you been, I'm with Cerberus but it's for the right reasons". A normal person would tell you to go f*ck yourself if that happened.

Right because the normal person would've just seen humans being kidnapped en masse by aliens and you getting there to late to stop all of them. Yes totally not good reasons. Shep was just siting in a Cerberus base laughing as they made some husks. Yup.

I'm not trying to be as harsh as I may sound, the discussion is interesting and I enjoy getting your POV. To Kaidan/Ashley, joining Cerberus is like keeping the Collector Base for ParaShep. There isn't a situation where that could be justified. There's always a better way. Plus, you let them think that you were dead when you obviously weren't (you're standing there talking to them). Now, after thinking about it they still offer to hear you out but their knee-jerk reaction is WTF!?

Wrong. Its very in character for several paragon Shep's to keep the base. And the base can be justified. It can be considered more to spit on the graves of the people who died to not use that technology against the reapers than the other way around.

Hear me out? He keeps raving about Cerberus everytime I attempt to explain. Hearing someone out means jack squat if you're not going to let them fully explain before making judgement calls.

As for making calls: As neutral Shep says best "I was in some kind of coma while Cerberus rebuilt me."

Too much thinking indeed. The only logical conclusion in this situation is that Shep is full of sh*t. That's the only one that exists. Actually having someone reaching it makes me like the VS more (and Tali/Garrus alot less).

Indeed. The only logical conclusion is that the VS has a very childish view of morality and can't wrap his/her head around the fact that there might actually be something far more sinsiter at stake than big mean Cerberus. (Who the Alliance is probably working with to begin with but let's not get into that. <_< )

And it made me dislike the Virmire Survivor a lot more. Ra forbid you realize that things aren't as simple as Cerberus = bad Alliance = good. Ra forbid you realize that humans are being dragged off en masse and Shep's trying to tell you why but you can't help but fixate on the people he's working with. Nevermind the fact that what he's working on should be something the damn Alliance should be doing something about but their sitting on their asses tied up in bureacacy. And the only reason they're on Horizon on the first place is because they think big bad Cerberus is going to kidnap people.

Without going into Horizon again... because we all know what I think of the H word (and ususally I would just post Meonlyred's comic).

I am in the OOC camp. I don't see how him not listening to Shepard's explanation was in character. This is supposed to be the woman he loved (his words), that he respected (in game) and he doesn't listen or let her explain. Please.

I am not saying that he should have gone with her... I am saying he could have said "Well, I have things I have to do, I hear what you're saying and I have to think about it." That would have made me feel 100 times better then the not listening and the traitor talk (especially since, in my case, I have been made a Spectre again and have the Council's (albeit grudgingly) blessing, and am no longer Alliance (due to my untimely demise) so I am not a traitor).

Well he does kind of say "I hear what you're saying and I have to think about it" in his letter to her if romantic. But if not romantic, there is no apology. But yes I do agree with you if for different reasons.
