I can see him with any type of (larger) pet, he just strikes me as the kind of guy who gets along fine with EVERYONE and EVERYTHING that isn't flat out evil. I think he would value a cat's independence and grace, so a cat is probably not a bad bet.

But, seriously, you can harden him? That's.. very interesting..

I like him a billion times better as a hardened king. I doubt I'd take the option with Kaidan though, I love the way he is.

Yeah, I prefer 'hardened' Alistair too, lol.

The romances in ME2 just weren't compelling to me. I see the Garrus, Tali, and Liara ones as hero worship, rather than actual love or romances. It seemed to me that Jacob had to be dragged into the romance, but at least he actually asks Shepard how she's doing. And whilst I think Thanes is possibly the best femShep one in ME2 it still doesn't grab me.

I can only speak for the Kaidan romance in ME1 cause I didn't romance Ashley in my one Sheploo playthrough (he stayed single, lol). I liked the build up in ME1 where it stemmed from friendship and mutual respect. The ME2 romances just felt too wham, bam, thank you ma'am to me.

I've done every romance.

The Kaidan romance is the only one I enjoyed in ME1. Ashley's felt too thin, Liara's too fast. I liked Tali's romance in ME2 and did not personally see it as hero worship. I also enjoyed Thane's. I liked the romance scene in Garrus' romance.

The Kaidan romance is, in my opinion, one of the top 3 best in the series so far, if not the.

Ha, my Warden could harden any man...(yes, ok - that was bad, but I could not stop myself:blush:)

And I love Kaidan the way he is. That's why I have not renegaded him sofar and I romanced him with each and every femShep I have ever played (about 4). I was just curious about the what if and whether he changes his behaviour or just his opinions about aliens.

For me Kaidan is the best romance in the ME franchise so far. I have romanced Ashley and Liara with male Sheps and they did not come close for me. The emotional impact just was not there. The only other romance I really enjoyed was the Jack romance with my male paragade Shep. That had a sort of proper build up and some depth to it, I thought. But it suffers from the way all ME2 romances start up rather abruptly after you finished the loyalty mission and then you have about 3 dialogues to "fix" the deal. It it far too rushed. Heck, with Kaidan and Ashley the first signs of interest are shown after Eden Prime. It was really so much better done, it is almost unbelievable, it was the same team writing this.

Jupp.... very wham-bam thank you mam. Romancing Thane I guess that most of the action or just talking in order to get to know each other must have happend of camera. My poor shepard wasn't at all in sync with it. "Ehh what, but we just meet, I'm Siha. Oki"

It works best with Garrus for me, it's not the deep-love my other shephard has for Kaidan but more a need to be close to someone. She and Garrus both have that need and they trust eachother. No everlasting love but as it where, letting of some steam, and they know eachother from all their time together. Jupp, it could work that way. Still, it's no way near the feelings that an actual build-up of emotions with Kaidan but that's just me       :D     *sigh*  wonder what's in store for us in ME3... hopefully something good  :wizard:

slight change of topic.

so I was thinking about it and no no no, I'm not obsessing at all >_>
Kaidan's ethnicity. his first name is japanese, his last name is ukranian and while he might have a slight ukranian cast to his features, its very slight.

but he has olive skin, full lips, curly hair, thick eyebrows and very lovely chocolate eyes. he always reminded me faintly of the hot guys of my adolescence. growing up in USSR meant you were exposed to a lot of bolliwood movies, and I mean a lot. they were as popular as domestic stuff if not more so. so I did some googling and you know what? I think that he has some Indian heritage. maybe second or third generation, but I really think its there.

look! (I tried to pick the links with pictures that fit my vision better - what? )

http://en.wikipedia....Abraham_(actor)
http://gayinbombay.b...wood-hunks.html
http://zone-online-b...-superstar.html

and now back to scheduled discussion (I think that Kaidan's romance was the best in the series, which is probably why we got kinda jipped in ME2 - we had it too good in ME1, so they had to even it out)

be back much later - searching for reference images of a man reading in a comfortable armchair with cat on his lap :P
(I'm a dog person myself, so my fantasy Kaidan is also a dog person, but that doesn't mean he cannot like cats :) )

Sooo.. I sure as h*ll don't need tips on how to harden a man myself. Posted Image But for others reading this, are there any things to consider when attempting such a feit?

And hardening Kaidan, I won't do that either. I can see the appeal, but I prefer him vanilla style..

The renegade romance with Miranda is supposed to be good, but I agree with what everyone is saying about ME2. I just don't get why they chose to do it that way, so rushed, there aren't that many more romances to fit in.

But that's the funny part, I STILL think Kaidan's romance is the best in the series. Seriously, Horizon made it even better! There's drama and turmoil and something to actually resolve. No literary romance in history has ever been "Hey, I like you. Oh, you like me too? Then let's shag and live happily ever after." There's a story to the Shenko romance. It grows and evolves (ME1), and changes and ultimately fights for its life (ME2). I really, really like it.

Posted Image

EDIT; To clarify, I think it was the best one in ME2 as well. Horizon, though it could have been executed better, made the Shenko romance take a huge leap forward and put it even further ahead of the other LI's.

We have had the Kaidan ethnicity discussion a number of times, and I'm still not sure as to whether we came to any concensus, lol.

Also Kaidan is not necessarily Japanese, something else we have failed to reach a conclusion on, lol.  It could be derived from the Arabic, Kadan, meaning companion.  And I'm sure someone found another name it could be derived from as well but I can't remember, lol.  He's an international man of mystery, lmao

Yeah, to me it's impossible to guess just based on looks. But it's one of those things that really lends itself to discussion since it's so vague.

To me, he just looks like a dark man. Could be Canadian for generations, or American, or English, or Scandinavian. He doesn't have any clear cut characteristics from any human sub-race that I can make out.

EDIT; ...although curly hair... Maybe not Scandinavan..

I have said this myself a few times :) Thinking of all the best love stories, there is always a rocky path to traverse. It is what makes the pay-off all the sweeter.
Romance without drama is not satisfying from a storytelling perspective (not so good IRL, of course) and a part of me thinks that BioWare are well aware of this and didn't want the ME romances to stagnate over 3 games so there is this odd sort of hiatus that we have to suffer til 3. There is almost a level at which waiting the longest implies that Kaidan/Ash are the canon romance. Not mentioning BioWare classing it as cheating on them if you have another romance in 2................... :P

Re: Pets.

I don't think Kaidan would be a dog person.  Select breeds, maybe, but as a whole I see dogs as requiring too much attention for his personality.  He might try, but he'd likely be overwhelmed.

Tank and terrarium critters would be better.  I think he'd like something he had to feed regularly and could derive enjoyment from watching rather than interacting with.  The hamster or the fish would probably be good candidates for that type of critter.

Cats could strike a balance: he'd feed it and maintain it, and it'd do it's own thing, but every once in a while it'd come up and curl on his lap and he'd feel he done good because it likes him.  (Granted, that's if he got the right cat).

Then again, while I don't see him as being put off by animals like some people are, I don't see him as seeking one out for companionship either, particularly in his line of work.

Re: Romances

I tried the new romances, expecting that I'd be hooked like I was with Kaidan, but got put off by the way they were handled and never went with any (no Paramour achievement for me...).  I was expecting the slow, gradual buildup like in ME1 that felt very natural to me, and the ME2 romances... aren't, really.

Then again, the ME2 LI's have been with Shepard for over a year, so I'm sure they've had time to build now.

Also, I found this Kaidan.

Enjoy.  ^_^

I agree with people about the difference in build up between ME1 and 2 romances. They just weren't as satisfying in 2.

My memory is always hazy on such things (despite having only just completed a play through of ME1 and currently doing a run of 2), so I tend to rely on general feelings I've had, but it seemed that in 1 every conversation you had with Kaidan you had the opportunity for some unique dialogue that slowly built up the possibility of a romantic relationship. In 2, however, any romance dialogue is suddenly thrust upon you, like the option to tell Garrus you'd like to blow off some steam with him (or whatever the option is ... I've never selected it, it sits there on the dialogue wheel every time I go to talk to him after that option 1st appears, but I can never talk to him about anything else ... he's always freaking calibrating).

Perhaps there could be said to be a certain amount of build up with Tali, for example, but since she pretty much says the same to femShep I don't believe it counts. I haven't played Jacob's romance, so I don't really know there. With Thane it felt less like a deep and natural progression, and more like a 'here, I'm sharing my feelings with you (like I would with manShep), and BOOM! you're my Siha". I don't remember much about Miranda's relationship, but it didn't feel as satisfying as those in 1. I thought Jack's was okay, but that's because I really love her character so perhaps I was biased.

So my opinions are based more on general feelings I've had throughout the games (I'm not as good at quoting specific dialogue examples as some of you guys :D), but I certainly feel the ME1 romances were deeper, more natural, and felt ultimately far more satisfying because they spanned the whole game and added a new dimension to the interactions you had with them from beginning to end.

On the subject of Horizon being a good thing for the telling of Shep and Kaidan's relationship ... in the (heavily) paraphrased words of a particular tv writer: you give viewers the love and romance they want, but you make them work damn hard for it first; you have to break their hearts before you let them have the sunshine and roses.

So, this is my theory regarding the pet controversy (yes, it's VERY dramatic); People tend to see Kaidan as being kinda like themselves or someone they know. Why? Because we have nothing/very little to base an assumption on.

I would never imagine Kaidan being anything but a dog/cat lover really, but I could never imagine not being one myself either. I can't relate to wanting a pet to look at and not cuddle, and I do imagine Kai being someone I could relate to. Posted Image

It's really interesting, because such a trivial question is actually forcing us to define bigger issues in his personality, would he enjoy the responsibility of a dog or the freedom of a turtle?

And regarding bunnies being a possible weapon against the reapers.. Australia will certainly be well pleased to hear that.
