I almost accidently romanced Liara in my first playthrough. I was completely oblivious to her affections until she made it really obvious and then I was like O.o But I guess as a straight woman, I just wasn't expecting to have another woman like me in that way. Of course there was also the fact that I was convinced she was into Kaidan. I'm not quite sure exactly what gave me the idea, but I do remember listening to both their comments in the wards when we were walking together and realized how similar they were (something about not liking the crowds I think) and immediately resolved never to have them on the same team again. Man was I ever surprised when I found out Kaidan felt the same way about my Shep and Liara Did anyone else get that vibe?

I was so dense in my first PT that I ended up getting ninjamanced by Liara and had shut Kaidan off. 

If you shut Kaidan down then talk to him about Liara, he will mention that he finds Liara attractive and sweet. Though he does add that it's just "art appreciaton". At any rate, he is attracted to Liara. Not sure if she's attracted to him at all though.

I've recently taken Kaidan and Liara out together when I would normally take Garrus and they haven't spoken at all - usually Garrus and Kaidan chat away but Kaidan and Liara haven't although it's at the point in the game where I have to make a decision about which one I want so maybe they don't like each other LOL

do u mean like in the lifts?

I think once Liara asks Kaiden about his L2 implants and about them causing him migranes.
She ones offered some sort of therapt or something. I also think that she mentions there was a reason why Asari shouldnt have taught his lot instead of Turians... something about the males wouldnt concentrate.

I think it's that almost impossibility to avoid a romance with her sometimes, coupled with the unfortunate treatment of the LIs in the interactive comic for PS3, that makes us VS supporters sad pandas at times. It's important not to take it out on Liara though cuz, well, she's just pixels. Me, I'm directing my rage at BW

Easiest way to deal with her is to flirt with her tell her you like and to tell her that Kaidan is special too, then tell Kaidan you aren't interested in her and just do the 'pick who', scenario and pick Kaidan, obviously.

A) So you can be sure you haven't been ninja'd

Jealous Kaidan is a bit sexy

C) The extra dialogue with Kaidan gives another insight into the kind of man he is - for example he does state (words to this effect) ''You think I have never been pulled in two directions'', in a very supportive way, which also dismisses the idea that he is a pathetic loser who has never had a relationship.............. ;-)

Aw, that sounds quite sweet really. That extra line, at least. I must say though, I just don't find the scenario of the showdown that appealing -- something about it rankles me. I guess if I was roleplaying a love triangle on purpose then fine, but I never have so far.

That said, I've never actually had the showdown problem when playing fShep, only the once when playing mShep, and that game was the one time I was ever actually cold towards Liara.

Pfft. I just don't like that whole situation. It's nice to get some extra Kaidan dialogue, of course. But I'll happily miss out on it (just like I'll miss out on his dialogue once you renegade him) if it means I don't have to see that scene XD

Well as I say it is worth it if you want the extra insight into Kaidan's atittudes/past  Not that you need it now since you've seen the videos, lol.

You know, I rather got the impression that he's not attracted to Liara specifically, but that he has a more general thing for asari as a whole.  Although Liara's also probably the first chance he's gotten close enough to get to know one on a personal level, which may count for something.  XD

Anyway.  I like to play the Love Triangle as a total misunderstanding, with Shepard not having a clue about asari and Liara not having a clue about humans and Kaidan caught up in the "wait, what?"

However, on my first playthrough, I shut Liara down without really knowing it.  If you pick the "But you're female!" or whatever option is on the left side of the wheel, Shepard points out in no uncertain terms that she only likes men, which Liara ultimately respects.

Thanks, that was a lovely read. Kaidan romance in the morning has prepared me for the upcoming Valentine's day .

I've never had problems with the romances, not counting the first time (unknowingly causing the threeway scene). Maybe it is a bug then..?

And I've been warned, I'll read ch 33 of Renegade Sun when I get home.. Which will make this day feel really long..

Finally!!!  You made me wait so long for this chapter, Thyme, lol.  But it was definitely worth the wait


And on the subject of ninja romances : Can't say I've ever been ninja'd when it comes to the romances in ME.  It always seemed pretty obvious to me which lines would turn a potential romance on, or off, lol.  Not that I know anything about turning Kaidan's romance off, it's just never going to happen, lol

new fanfic! squeee! quick post and then off to glomp it up. from what I'm seeing in my speed through the game, mostly neutral responses experiment - Kaidan does still like you even if you don't encourage him in medibay, but not all bottom right responses are being outright jerk, some of them are just discouraging, so I think I should be able to keep him friendly, but not romantic with the right combination of neutral and renegade responses.

scary part is that character who started out purely as an experiment and whos appearance I designed in like 2 minutes and who's doing almost no side missions - is suddenly developing a distinct personality and backstory. yikes.... I'm going to have to do one of those femshep write ups eventually, just to get it off my chest

Similar thing atm with my current Sheploo. Created him without any real thought, just to have an Ash romance save throughout both games, but have come to grow really fond of him. When all my mSheps are Sheploos it's tough to always make them distinct, but this guy has, like your fShep, developed his own personality throughout the games. I must say, I'm not that excited by him during ME2, but then I find it hard to keep a backstory, motivation and cohesive narrative going during that game (probably because I don't feel the game itself has a great deal of narrative cohesion). He really grew to be someone I liked during ME1 though, and I'm planning on starting him again in NG+ - same personality, same guy, same backstory, a couple of different choices (as in romance and who dies).

I find it really interesting how, sometimes I can set about creating a Shep based on a set of parameters I already have mapped out in my mind, I already know their story, what choices they will make, whether they'll be an ass or a saint ... but other times Shep develops almost against my will as s/he makes his/her own choices in the game.

@ Catabuca - I'm starting to realize what some authors mean when they say that their characters grab them by short and curlies and dictate how they want the story to go, even if that's not what authors originally planned... and I'm not even a writer >_> I have Sheploos as well, making custom male shepards can be a bit...daunting without importing textures and the like. speaking of which one of the best male sheps I saw so far....has Kaidan's textures
