^^^though I'll probably still buy it, but I cannot stand not knowing. I don't need the details but I need to know overall.
As much as I would love to remain spoiler free for ME3 I'd rather know up front if Kaidan isn't a squadmate that way I won't be nearly as disappointed during my first play through if he's not.
Edit for almost ToP, something I'd like to see in ME3

I never realized it before, but I'm totally into the obscure, vintage LI in the Mass Effect series.

And I don't want spoilers, it does spoil the fun for me. But it's really hard with games like this, I'm reading the forums now after having played ME 6 times and I'm still being spoiled occasionally. DA:O has been finished once, and I'm staying far away from those boards for another couple of months.

I can completely respect and understand that. (And lovely new photo manip, btw.)
If I was on the fence on whether to buy the game, I'd definitely want to know more than absolutely nothing. But, flaws and all in the series, I am completely absorbed by the overall story being told. And ME3 is essentially book three in that trilogy, and I have to know how it ends. So, I'll be buying the game. (Unless the last story ME2 DLC changes my mind completely.)
And to add some Kaidan love to the page:

Still, I too can understand wanting to know if certain deal-breaking events will take place before buying it. I do want to know, but I know I'll enjoy it more if I stay strong and oblivious.

Maybe it's because I "started" with the middle chapter, ME2, that I don't have such an attachement to the overall series. I'm not sure.
As someone else pointed out a few pages back, ME has become as much Shepard's story as it has become Shepard and Kaidan's story. If BioWare gives us another cameo in ME3, I'd rather not spend the money and pretend ME2 and ME3 didn't happen. No, the series ended with ME1 and an extended shore leave for Shep and Kaidan.

I hope for you (and us all really) Chig that BW makes ME worthwhile for all the stories, Shep, Kaidan, Ashley, etc.
I definitely hope so too! Because ME for me -just like you guys said- is no longer about the reapers, as much as it's about Shepard and Alenko...so yeah, here's to hoping BW would deliver.

You guys actually convinced me to go blind with ME3...I'll do my best to do that.
You've got much more willpower than me. I'll be reading every spoiler possible so that I can decide if I'll actually like the game or not. ME2 was a huge letdown for me.

Well I played ME1 first, and for me ME2 is but a time filler between ME1 and ME3 so I didn't hate it, I actually like it...heck I played it like a dozen times. It's no where near as good as ME1 but it has it's up sides, so yeah...
I like to go by "BW has a plan so we just have to sit back and wait and see"

It will definitely be more difficult to go into ME3 blind. I desperately want to know everything right now about Shepard, and Kaidan, and Earth, and everything really. I am going to have to hide in a dark hole somewhere when we finally start getting ME3 info.
I know exactly how you feel LOL

If I can strike that balance I'll be happy.
With DA2, I'm spending a lot of time over on the forums atm, I'm reading the character threads, but it's mostly speculation, apart from them having confirmed who the LIs are (although no official confirmation of who the m/m LI will be). I've played the demo, I've watched some gameplay that Laidlaw has shown, I've watched the trailers, and a couple of other snippets, but outside of Isabela's recruitment mission and the demo I haven't seen much else. At this point, the story is pretty much a gaping black hole ... we all kinda know what the eventual outcome of the game is, but I have no idea how we get there, and I'm glad about that. I'm aching to know, but I'd much rather find out in the game, and still have those jaw-dropping wow moments when it happens.
I had no idea about Virmire and it completely shocked me the first time I played through it. I'd put so much thought into who would go with Kirrahe's team, because I suspected I might lose them ... but then I had to leave someone at the bomb? That was the first shock. And then moments later I had to make that choice ... I sat and stared at the screen for what seemed like forever. If I'd have known that decision existed beforehand it wouldn't have been nearly as epic to play through. And in subsequent runs, although I know that decision will need making, I can draw on the memory of my first experience of it. If I'd have just watched someone else play it, or read about it, I wouldn't have those memories to draw on.
That said, I skip to the end in novels too. Usually the last couple of pages. If I don't see anything spoilery there, I don't keep flicking back until I do though. I was also the kid who hunted for presents before Christmas (and found them and had to act surprised on xmas day). There are some tv shows and films I am more than happy to devour spoilers about, but there are one or two that I don't want spoiling at all. I guess it all comes down to how invested in something I am.

you guys are lucky, I'm psychologically incapable of staying spoiler free - it both frustrates and amuses my husband at the same time (whenever he trades me a book he liked, its a face palm moment as I leaf/scroll through it to check the ending) I actually enjoy the story more when I know how it will go, so I can just relax and enjoy the journey instead of racing heedlessly to the end. I think it actually affected my liking Kaidan more, because I knew a great deal about his character before the game. if I just went in blind I would have thought: "eh, good looking character, but I think I'm just going to focus on missions and not talking to crew and stuff."
I tend to do the same thing with books. My husband laughs at me for it too. But like you, I'm more likely to enjoy it when I'm not on edge, trying to figure out what the "right answer" is.
Still I find that with games, even though I may know tidbits - who the LIs are or something, I don't make any effort to really learn about the plot. Some of the games I've played (KoTOR, ME1&2), I went through not knowing about the "big choice" and it was very cool to be surprised and shocked. At the same time I was actually glad to know about the Morrigan issue in DA:O because I never wanted to go there. So I don't worry about it too much myself. If I hear a spoiler I tend to look forward to it (anxious anticipation!) and if not, I go in blind and see what that's like.

I got into chatting late here, otherwise I probably would have known about Virmire before my Shep would have made her first step on there. Actually spoilers are making me even more curious about the game
