Well you could only ever do that with Shepard anyway - give orders to squad mates, you couldn't run around as Kaidan for example....yoshibb wrote...
You know, playable to some extent could possibly just mean that while Shepard is fully playable, you can only give orders to your squadmates. It doesn't have to mean that they're only there for some missions.

Yay, I'm so excited to see Kaidan again! His eyes and lips seem a little small but his hair looks gorgeous and the scruff *sigh*, it's definately going to be a long wait for ME3.
I think the whole cheating thing is Bioware just stating the obvious since they do kind of try to nudge you into the new "romances". I don't think it will have any major reprecussions, they have said after all that they kept Kaidan out of ME2 for some important role in ME3. I just think it will cause some awkwardness and you possibly won't be able to continue the romance. I do kind of hope they handle it differently than they did with Liara, I think it would hurt Kaidan at least a little and I don't think he would just brush it aside.
The "to some extent" certainly makes me nervous but hopefully it's just them being vague. I do think that the fact that they spent the time and resources to update Kaidan and Ashley's look is a good sign. And the fact that there was a picture of them in the magazine, especially Kaidan, shows that they've heard us and know how important he is to us. Now all we can do is hope that they stay true to his character and hope that they've given the writing for him the love and care that he deserves.
Yeah, they were really plugging the new romances prior to ME2's release. Heck, the entire game is build around the new characters to give them the spotlight completely. Which is why, imo, the VS got so little love in the game with the akward animations, low texture armor, armor swapping even, generic scenes etc etc. So yes, seeing them updating Kaidan's looks is a good sign indeed.
Then again, they did the same for Liara in her DLC...and that was just a DLC...so anything goes really.
I was and still am, just really surprised to even see Kaidan at all in the magazine but there he is! ME1 was all about Ashley, she was the poster girl...it's been a while but I don't think much was known about Kaidan prior to the game's release, don't recall seeing much of him so this magazine spread was unexpected.
I saw Ashley and was happy for her fans, I wanted to see Kaidan too but it never even crossed my mind we would. When I returned to this thread later on and saw people mentioning the new Kaidan I was really shocked! I re-read what was being said multiple times, just couldn't believe it and I frantically searched for said scans lol
It's just wonderful and I still haven't recovered from that surprise lol

Also nice to see an updated look and stuff, he lookes even hotter. Gonna be worth the wait hopefully, do you think anyone who romanced ME2 PC's are going to start like how we were about the VS?

:lol:I didn't cheat...not on one playthrough...I don't know why...It was so easy in Dragon Age...but I just couldn't do it to Kaidan...I'm hopeless. I think you may be right about not being able to recruit him if you cheated. I think someone said that if you didn't have Liara as your LI that you couldn't romance her in the Shadowbroker DLC...seems to be the way Bioware is going with that. Just wish I could romance and recruit Kaidan and somehow resurrect Ashley...having to sacrifice her on Virmire was a big loss to the game in my opinion.
I thought it was insanely easy to cheat in ME2. I swear the dialog wheel would give you something innocuous like "Good Morning." and it'd translate into "I want you NOW!". While I do understand that they did want people to give the new romances a go, I don't think they took into account the amount of people like me who had no problem doing some ME1 playthroughs just to have a non-romanced Shep to bring into ME2 to see the romances.
For the most part I thought they were all kinda lousy save one or two tops.
It was way too easy to fall into a romance with Jacob and Shepard's behavior with him was so not like what I envisioned my Shepard to be that it made me sick. I save before conversations with squadmates so if I don't like where it goes I can undo it.
Any paragon option would set some people off...I found it was just easier to not be so nice to anyone I knew was a romance option. Best romances ever in my opinion were those in ME1 and not just naked Kaidan though that does work for me. Gonna feel weird with a tamed down romance with Kaidan after having the hot one in ME1.

Tbh my Shepard had no problems to stay faithful in ME2, but yeah, the dialogue wheel in ME2 was a bit tricky. One of the reason I quit talking to some of the characters later ^^
Always thought the romance options on the wheel in ME2 were pretty clear. Shepard is, after all, a bit frisky in ME2 lol I still prefer the ME system over the DA2 one...really those icons were just silly imo. A heart to show you're flirting? Really? What if I don't want to know which option is the obvious flirt, what if I want to find out myself that the few words on a wheel could end up being some Rawr Rawr comment?
Anyway, I do believe it's cheating if you move on in ME2 ...to a point but it's how each of us views the game differentlyFor my Shepard her relationship with Kaidan meant the world, he was her rock, the one stable factor in the chaos and the fact two career marines broke regs (among other things) to give into their feelings, is just one way of showing it goes beyond an one night stand. The whole build up of the romance in ME1 was just great and my Shepard really fell for her lieutenant
So no, exploring new options so soon after the events of ME1 was never in the books for her. Yeah years went by, but not for her...she remembers the night before Ilos like it was yesterday...so to speak. So personally any of my Shepards who romanced Kaidan, remained faithful. Because to me that's how it felt
The single Shepard I imported (and oh boy did I have a hard time staying away from Kaidan in that ME1 playthrough) had a go at trying the new LI's but none appealed to me in the end so I never finished her playthrough of ME2. So no romance achievement for me in ME2
I can see people considering it's not cheating though *shrugs* It's all how you view and RP your Shepard. There are tons of people who think Kaidan was a jerk on Horizon and he deserves hell for it and thus that's why they move on. And again I could never do that or see it like that
I do hope there's a reward for those who remained faithful, but I don't expect anything major. Would be nice though, even if it's something small. A little gesture, a special dialogue option..I dunnoDo I deserve some special treatment because I remained faithful? No. But again, some small gesture would be lovely, like Shepard telling Kaidan she loves him and always has, that there's nobody but him...or something horribly but squee-worthy romantic
However they handle it, it won't matter in the end for me. My Shepard has but one love, and hopes to make things right as soon as she gets the chance. That's going to be my playthrough, I won't see any of the consequences in the end should there be any lol I'm just a softy, the LI that appeals to me is usually the LI for all my playthroughs. In DA2 I tried a different approach but it doesn't matter, I keep going for the same LIHeck, it would be nice to have a Kirk like Shepard but I just can't...darn me lol
Agree with your post...I felt the same way about Kaidan and Shep's relationship. As for a little reward for faithfulness...how about we get more revealing love scenes:D:devil:Okay I'm thinking very naughty thoughts. Or maybe we get the only marriage option or something. I loved the fact that Anders talks about having children in DA2...maybe something along the lines of a future for the two.

I hope there's something for staying faithful to. I hope they at least give Kaidan and Shepard some alone time, early in the game, to work out their issues and set the relationship on the right track, maybe a sweet hug at the end or a kiss. Liara fans got to do that at the end of LOTSB, so I think they at least owe us that much. I think their relationship does deserve a little special treatment...just a little, after all we didn't get an entire DLC for Kaidan.

I can stand to be a little positive myself...problem is I've still got the memory of everything that went down with Bigwrexfan's thread back on the other forums...it's not something I want to re-live...the promises...the disappointments. This time they better come through.
As for Kaidan does it look like he's a little gray through the hair or is that just the lighting...I don't know about anyone else but a few streaks of gray would be such a turn on for me. The stubble works as well...and if that's a permanant look I'd say Kaidan may have left the Alliance...I'll just leave my other thoughts to myself...the spoilers actually gave me some fanfic ideas and if I can get my husband out of the house at some point (bloody unlikely...he's laid off right now) I'll write.
Did I notice that Tali wasn't mentioned?
Ah yes, the "ME1 LIs are not recruitable" thread in the old forums. That thread ruined my life for a few weeks
And I think Tali will be the character that they don't mention until much later... possibly Miranda.
Edit: They didn't mention Liara, Thane etc either though. This is a beginning promo though, so everything's up in the air for now.
I kinda get the feeling it was to calm some of us down that were upset over the fact that there is no Kaidan/Ashley DLC. I'm sure the article was probably already written before the Arrival DLC came out but they had to know some of us would be upset...because as I recall the devs couldn't really calm amybody down when that thread came out though they tried...I know I was one of them. The right kind of marketing to keep the masses calm and while this is great news after that fiasco I'm still on guard.

I am beginning to think they are monitoring these threads closer than we think...activity wise Kaidan's thread has always moved faster than Ash's thread. I think they know there is a swelling of female fans that are crazy about him...if they had a M/M romance option the thread would probably move even faster.
Even though I know that they want to please the fans and giving a picture of Kaidan helps to do that I wonder if they have found that there is a greater market for female gamers that are into a certain hot male biotic with a voice to die for. If pics of Kaidan can sell more games....the bottom line is money afterall (can't blame them for that...it's how they make their living).
Just hoping that if they see a greater demand by female gamers that they will cater a little more to us...love scenes that are equal to the ones the guys get. Dialogue for the female...not any of that Prize crap like we got from Jacob.

And another question after going through Shepard's death and Horizon, how do you think the mending of the relationship will progress? Do you think he will be even more cautious, hesitant or do you think he will be a little more assertive, not wanting to waste what little time they have left?

My poor LaZorra, she's such a flirt...LOL
And onto topic...
Going over all the available romances in game, most of them do have a 'dealbreaker' to me in them.
Jacob: 'The priiize...', really.... Screams bad bar pickup line to me and makes me wish for a sarcastic zingback option on the dialog wheel. "The priiiiize...' 'You want the Priiiize well lay it across the desk and we'll talk.'
Thane: Sorry I outgrew the 'twagic' crap decades ago.
Garrus: I simply can't see him as a romance option since he's just more of a best bud in my eyes.
Liara: I still get that vibe of it's not so much an affection for Shep but more wanting that delicous prothean knowledge in her head. Equally I still wouldn't put it past Liara to have slipped an Embrace Paternity somewhere in all the Embrace Eternities. I do like her as a character, but not a romance option.
Jack: We all know the rule of about crazy, even though that didn't stop my momma's boy Shep from romancing her. Dude grew up sheltered.
Miranda: I can't get past the initial bits of snitty with her, not to mention her AI on my system seems to be set to 'die fast blow through medigel' mode.
Tali: I can't see her as anything as the spunky kid sister tagging along for adventures.
Ashley: Only thing that grates on me with her is the poetry thing, silly as that sounds. She's usually dead in my playthroughs because I just can't find it in me to nuke Kaidan. Even my male Sheps tend to view him as the reliable friend who's always up to buy the beer or hotwings at the bar.

I'm not sure if this has been asked before but I was curious. I know that most of us don't want Kaidan to have changed much, we want the KaidanweShepard fell in love with to return in ME3, but since it's been around 3 years he's bound to have changed somewhat. My question is how do you think working with Shepard and having loved Shepard and then losing him/her might have changed him?
And another question after going through Shepard's death and Horizon, how do you think the mending of the relationship will progress? Do you think he will be even more cautious, hesitant or do you think he will be a little more assertive, not wanting to waste what little time they have left?
Despite what some people think I don't think everyone changes a lot...I mean some people do but not everyone.
But in line with the question I guess you have to figure in Rhana...you had to practically seduce him in ME1 to win him over because he had been hurt in his past by Rhana's rejection. I would think losing Shepard would have been even worse because he actually was with her (she didn't reject him at all) but it would still feel like the same kind of loss.
He's proven that he has a tendency to withdraw in those types of cases...I mean outwardly he's efficient...does his job...but emotionally he pushes it all down...I suspect that type of response is pretty much repsonsible for his heightened biotics much like the crap Jack went through made her biotics so strong. His has a tendency to fester underneath the surface whereas she explodes but the result is the same...strong biotically. If it's possible physically at his age to grow any stronger in that area I would assume Shepard's death would have given reason enough.
But emotionally he said it all...his friends had to make him go out and get a life...why because he was doing waht he always does when he gets hurt...withdrawing. As far as I was concerned his personality was the same in ME2 as ME1 (thank the Maker) and I hope they keep it that way for ME3...I like the hothead:lol:(I will destroy you...I long to hear that again).
2nd question... Reality wise with the fact that they might all die I would think they'd blow it off...I know I would...in the face of death I don't think I'd want to argue about the past...I'd just want to be with the one I loved in case it was the end. But for the sake of romance slowly working themselves back together is always good ...the only problem for me personally is that I never disagreed with Kaidan's reaction on Horizon...I was kinda thinking the same thing...How could you be with Cerberus? So I don't know if dancing around the question of will they or won't they based on one argument on Horizon would neccessarily work for me.

Universe's quickest reconciliation. I love Bioware's dialogue, but sometimes actions speak louder than words. Plus, we have fanfiction for our angst. But an interrupt option would be nice so that way you can get the whole talk or get right to the point .

Kaidan is the only one that's refreshingly normal, romancing or not. Romancewise he's got the right amount of fumbling around for the 'dawwww' factor, is actually stable when you talk to him compared to everyone else who's got some variant of '*bleep* you dad' going on. He doesn't need any carrying, well beyond the getting shot on Virmire.
Even in other games, someone as well rounded as Kaidan's terribly rare.

I couldn't agree more. I like a number of the romanceable characters from other games but I appreciate Kaidan's lack of neediness. I love it that he tells Shepard he's got a few scuffs and dings but see it as giving him character; i.e., no need to fix! What a relief!
@ Michelle7: I agree that the ME1 romances in general were much better than ME2. For one thing our characters got to know each other more thoroughly or so it seemed. I wasn't fond of Ash (*looks nervously over shoulder*) - especially her poetry spouting but the romance did seem to be more fully fleshed out.
