You'd be surprised. Some of the people who dislike him the most are those who felt like they were "forced" to romance him because he was the only male romance option in the first game. Horizon only added to their complaints. I get it, to some extent. I did the Anomen romance in BG2 several times, and I'm not a fan. I don't get the ones who romance and save Ashley but hate her and call her racist, though.

Yeah, haters gonna hate. I actually liked Ashley quite a lot, but I had to purposely make just one playthrough where I knew I would save her instead just because its so hard for me to leave Kaidan on Virmire
But you can download a savegame from the savegame database if that makes you feel less guilty or sad.
I can't leave him behind either, so I pick a savegame from there to play ME2.

Knowing I have to leave Ash behind on Virmire, usually means I play through ME1 with Garrus and Kaidan at my side nowadays. Having Ash along and hearing the banter etc just makes Virmire suck even more.
I like my Shepard/Garrus/Kaidan team though, and hopefully everything will go full circle in ME3 and I can finish what I started so many years ago with the same squad

So I was thinking about it. I think what happens is Anderson and ashley/kaidan help you in the beginning. The earth trial prologue thing. Then it's up to your past decisions if ashley/kaidan stick around or go command another ship as an ally or something of yours but not directly ON the ship.
That seems to be the best option out there with how to handle it. Gives us who've been faithful the option of having them around as we want to and those who didn't have that vacancy for someone else on ship.sevalaricgirl wrote...
I can
see it now. Kaidan walks into femSheps captain's suite and sees the
picture of him on the desk. He asks femShep why she kept it. She say,
"You don't know. I still love you." Kaidan says "Can we work it out
and work together?" FemShep says, "Alistair and the warden
did."
Not meaning to derail, but what is this a reference to in DA? I only bothered with DA:O and was less than thrilled with some storyline paths so I've not bothered with the rest of the franchise.
It was a joke. I guess you don't understand humor? I played DAO, 17x, and on my 5th playthrough of DA2. I guess each to her/his own but I loves DAO's romance. You could romance Alistair the entire game and marry him in the end. Way different than ME's little 5 second romance. I can also include Anders from DA2 here, You can romance him for most of the game and he moves into your house with you and you can go off together in the end. You don't get that in ME or ME2. In ME/ME2 it's all about "we're going to die so let's have sex." The ME team can learn a lot from the DA team on romance.

I must shamefully admit that I have never, ever been able to leave Kaidan behind on Virmire...I ..just...cannot. Staying single on one of my Shepards just meant I didn't talk to Kaidan much, didn't bring him along on my team etc but I did save him on Virmire. That playthrough was the worst I ever did, it just didn't feel right
Yeah, its such a sad part of the game, similar to watching the Normandy blow up in ME2. Though at least I can occupy my attention with some random activity while that scene is happening. Ah all this hub bub is really making me itch for a new ME1 playthrough {
I haven't kept up with this thread, has anyone posted some fan art based on Kaidan's ME3 look??

I've never left Kaidan behind on Virmire nor have I been able to not romance him in ME1.
Shepard / Garrus / Kaidan is also my favorite combo from ME1 and I'm looking forward to the possibly of being able to have that team again in ME3.

Not sure if that violates the rule on posting scanned images or not, I'm sure a mod will stop by and let me know if I have to remove it from the thread.
And Jho's promised to make me a new picture of Kaidan in his dress blues when we finally get some high rez images of Kaidan's upated look. This picture of hers is still my favorite picture of Kaidan.

Universe's quickest reconciliation. I love Bioware's dialogue, but sometimes actions speak louder than words. Plus, we have fanfiction for our angst. But an interrupt option would be nice so that way you can get the whole talk or get right to the point .
LOL, I hadn't thought of that, definately like...at least for some of my Shepard's. I don't expect a huge discussion I just want things resolved early on in the game.
Agreeing with both of you...Dragging it out in the game would drive me crazy...I just don't want them to do it early on then let it fizzle...why can't we have several intimate love scenes over the entire game.

huh? I don't think I'm cut out for 4chan style humor :/
edited to add, Kaidan always had pretty curly hair. its visible even in ME1 on higher resolutions - and I've always thought it was the origin of headbump, becasue curly hair tends to take on strange shapes when not cut short enough
In all seriousness, I hope Kaidan's role in ME3 is such that even the haters can tolerate him. Or at least stop bashing him. But he doesn't appear to have any new tattoos, large scars, or cybernetic accoutrements, so who knows. Maybe it would be best if he's killable upon meeting him, so that those who are inclined get their wish.
but TeenZombie most hater have alerdy finish him of in V
That's true...but I think that there were a few new ones after Horizon.

lol were in the same boat...I could never kill him...I've never even seen his death on Virmire not even on youtube...I couldn't handle it...I'm such a sap. My team was always Shep/Kaidan/Liara...all biotics...powerhouse team if you ask me. I loved Wrex but couldn't play with him...his big head kept getting in the way of me being able to see my targets.

Yeah, I loved the Anders romance but my bet is that DA3 will have a new main character so it was easier for them to complete the romance...with the ME franchise being strung out over three games(at least Shepard's story) they have to stretch the romance to fill all the games(even if we didn't really get anything for Kaidan/Ash in ME2). I'm hoping they bring the romance to the same type of conclusion in the third game.

I managed to leave him once and I was distraught about it the whole time. The only reason I did it was because I was playing mShep and romancing Ashley trying for the soldier achievement. Would you believe stupid game still didn't give me the achievement! It's like I was being punished for sacrificing Kaidan

Well, considering the costs in animating lovescenes I don't think that will happen. However, DA2 made a step in the right direction by having a lovescene and different kissing scenes...oh and a fade to black lovescene that shows nothing but appears after flirting if I recall correctly.
If we could have two, that would be great...one earlier in the game and the good ol' scene before the grand finale
One beautiful lovescene and a few kissing scenes would work for me. Not the 'select Kiss and see the same kissing scene over and over again' but the way it's done in DA2.
Something that's perhaps cheaper resource wise and still gives the relationship intimacy is gestures; caressing a cheek during a conversation, holding hands, a hug, kiss on the cheek....actual physical contact between two lovers. But Bioware seems to work that into their games a bit more as of late...Jacob holds hands with femshep after the love confirmation right? The DA2 LI's cup cheeks....yes there's more touching going on and I would love to see more of that in ME3.
Kaidan caressing Shepards cheek while saying something sweet beats any fade to black hint at a lovescene imo

I assume without the awkward patrol scene? Because that, while hilarious, isn't something I want to see for Kaidan and Shepard rofl

LOL, I love that scene! But yeah, I really don't need to have the advice of my squadmates about what to do next.

LOL, I love that scene! But yeah, I really don't need to have the advice of my squadmates about what to do next.I think we've gotten past the awkward beginning stage. The stable, loving relationship between equals who are secure enough to work together in a superior/subordinate capacity, though...that I do want.
You win at life! That scene from DA2 was so awesome lol

I wouldn't agree with costs. DAO had a few modders who did in their free time Improved Romance Scenes and there are several of them (several romance scenes) and it didn't cost them anything but a toolset and time. The devs are being lazy if they can't do a few romantic scenes and say it's cost. It's not cost. One of the modders even created a wedding scene out of the modding tools for Alistair as king and the princess consort Cousland. It was beautiful. Bioware can do it if the modding community can do it. If Bioware doesn't think they're up to it, then they should release modding tools so the community of modders can do it. We'll do it for sure.
