On another subject, does anyone else feel totally surprised when Kaidan does well in polls like this one?  When it was linked the other day, I figured he got a bump from being linked in this thread, but when I looked at it again today, I was really amazed at how many votes he has.  He's gone from being pretty much despised on the old forums, to having a pretty popular fan thread over here, and the first BSN thread was created *after* ME2, and the Horizon appearance.  So, are more people coming out of the woodwork as Kaidan fans despite his appearance in ME2, or maybe a year later, it's not as big a deal? 

I guess "absence makes the heart grow fonder."  I was really frustrated after playing ME2 and the huge lack of Kaidan.  I don't want that to happen in ME3, so I will show any support I can.  I'm desperate for more Kaidan...going through withdrawal.

For the poll, I think that some people are realising how well written the romances were in ME1 compared to ME2. To me it was just sort of "Heyo! Horizon sucked wanna shag *insert name*?" I mean Thane's was handled a bit better than Garrus' and Jacob's in my opinion. Then again I just watched all of the videos on them on YouTube since my Shep was loyal to Kaidan.

He really does quite well lately - I have noticed it as well and I'm surprised by it.

He really does quite well lately - I have noticed it as well and I'm surprised by it.

Standing the test of time, I think...... He is a solid reliable character, not a passing fad

I know for me, being a relative newcomer to the forums, it was a combination of factors; specifically, the fact that I only just realized that the forums existed a few months ago (despite having an account for Dragon Age... don't ask) as well as the fact that I needed validation as a Kaidan fan.  I needed to know that I was not the only fan feeling the way I am about his representation and, when I realized that I am not alone, I decided to add my voice to the support, as I'm a serious advocate for things I feel passionately about.

Yeah, I'm kind of the same way...when this site opened, I spent a lot of time on the Dragon Age forum, defending Alistair vs. Loghain, until I got tired of rehashing the same arguments over and over again.  At the same time, ME2 was about to come out, and I had gotten the bad news that Kaidan wasn't going to be in the new game.  I started lurking around the ME forum, and after the game came out, and a Kaidan support thread was made, I started posting, just to make my voice heard.  I'm glad I did, even if we don't get what we want in the next game.  I've met some cool people, read great fan fiction, and seen great fan art here.  Of course, actually getting VS DLC and Kaidan as a squadmate would be a very nice bonus, on top of all that, too...

As you guys can tell, Kaidan is one of my favorite game characters, but he is also a favorite of my best (guy) friend. Who I must mention is completely straight. I know I shouldn't have to say that but that is always the next question people ask me when I say that about him. I mean how on earth can a straight man like Kaidan!? *end sarcasm*

When ME1 first came out me and him use to talk about all the time how awesome Kaidan is. We would share with each other how we got Kaidan to say something awesome. ei: the 'RTFM' line or the 'Get a job' line.

It honestly had nothing to but with the fact he was good looking or a romantic character. It had everything to do with he was a well written character with some of the best lines in the game. Even if he was not a romantic option, he would still be my favorite character in ME, well after Shepard. xD The fact FemShep can sleep with him is only an added benefit.

Since I only recently started even looking at the forums and posting on deviantart I had no idea that people hate him. It was honestly a shocker. I even remember calling my friend and saying something to the affect of "People hate Kaidan?! WTF?! When?! Where?! How?!"

I don't even understand where the hatred comes from. I know all the excuse and all the reasons they give, but it is like everyone else in the world got a flyer saying to hate Kaidan for those reasons. I missed the bandwagon somewhere along the way and am glad I did.

Well that was my 2 cents for the evening.

My favorite characters are almost always the ones that bite the dust(or can, ex Virmire).

I fear for the safety of Kaidan, Reaver, and a little handfull of manga characters that haven't already bit the dust by now.

No Kaidan, you are not making a heroic sacrifice. If anyone is going to be doing any dying, it's damn well going to be me and me alone. I will lock you in a small ice chest if need be. You will be preserved.

No Reaver, you are not going to be executed or spontaneously fall in love with my character. If death has to happen, I only approve of past catching up to you and driving you up the bloody wall until you snap. Karma.


Manga characters, I cannot save you from shonen cliche.

I was  kind of regular in the DAO long before release and in the off topic threads, but i stoppped checking coz i didnt want any spoilers.  And when i played ME2 for the first time i got mad ( and i mean MAD) at bioware and left the site for months.  I returned only coz of Alistair (couldnt understand what i was doing wrong with having bad endings with my relationship with him) And it was an easy step for me to just check the ME2 site...just.....check.....you know...old habbits die hard And i was lurking for long before make my mind about starting posting again, but im glad i did, if only to support Kaidan. He's the only reason im here after all.
And i dont post often, but i check this thread every morning, noon and night before bed...like a medicine i have to take 3 times a day

Well, I did not post at all in threads until I arrived here. I lurked before in the DA:O Threads, but I never have posted there...I was a newbie pretty shocked how some people treated others in the threads, so I stayed away and only lurked.



I probably would've never tried to play ME, when my son wouldn't have told me, that the game is also developed by Bioware like DA:O and that I can play a female and that there is a certain Lt. called Kaidan Alenko. I knew my son loved the game, but I was not convinced first, because there was no dragon to fight Anyway I got curious and started the game and it did not take long that I fell in love with ME1 ....and Kaidan Alenko I...or better my femsheps loved him from the start...not because the way he looks like (of course, he's good looking, but I prefer more the skandinavian type or dark hair, blue/green eyes) but I loved his charakter the way he was written...So mature and standing as a real support at Shepard's side...And because I got so interested in this charakter, I started to search in the forums for Kaidan. I wanted to know if there are others like me...and so I found the first KAST...I just lurked in there for a long time and did not post. But I enjoyed to read all the great comments about Kaidan and one of these days I decided to post...lol...I was totally excited to be brave enough to do it, but Kaidan deserved it and I found great people here to chat with,



Meanwhile real life is often keeping me away to post that much, but I'm always around to check in here and see what's going on. And I love to see that there so many new faces here



Well, and like all of us I really hope that we will get our VS DLC to see Kaidan soon and I would love to have him back as a Squadmate in ME 3...*sighs*

I basically keep to the Kaidan thread, with the occassional peek into Ashley's thread, the femshep one or Liara's. They are 'safe' so to speak, meaning no Kaidan bashing. Get sorta tired of seeing the word whiny tossed about ever so easily in the same sentence as Kaidan elsewhere.
This thread makes me feel all warm and fuzzy, we have our gutter with slide, bar, mop and bucket for the drool and shirtless Kaidan posters....I'm quite comfy here, thanks

And I love his lines (and, my lord, his voice), but it was the smile that got me here, writing fanfic and acting like a schoolgirl in general.


But I also have a general concern. How do you guys think Bioware will handle the romances in ME3? To many of the players, ALL the characters will be new. So, provided that LIs get treated fairly, they can't very well have (what is it now, 9?) 9 old romances going PLUS 9 new ones. That means that the old LIs is probably available for new romances for those who didn't romance them before. That would mean a few more lines for every character (one set if they're your LI and one set if they aren't), making it smart of them to keep old LIs out of ME2, BUT it would also mean that you could romance Kaidan for the first time again.

I would like that.

And, of course, all this goes out the window if the pull another ME2 on us and just cut out the old and throw in a shiny new set of characters. But I doubt that, seems silly.
