Have you ever felt that in ME1, you conversation with Kaidan felt like an episode of the Simpsons, that is the beginning has nothing to do with rest of the dialogue. It might be a weird thing to pick up but every time I talk to him, he will start by saying something about the council or aliens and then all of a sudden seg into his life at the Brain camp. I was a little confuse at first. Does anyone else feel that too?

Not really he links it in, it's like real conversation where you go on a tangent but then you get to the point at the end of your story *shrug*
Not fangirlism, I honestly never had trouble following him.

or he is so enamoured with Jane Shepard that he can't collected his thoughts into a single coherent story

He mentions his parents retired there, which leads me to believe he did not grow up in the same area. Otherwise, he wouldn't have made the distinction of calling it his parents' retirement home.jtav wrote...
Quick question: did Kaidan grow up in Vancouver or do his parents just live there now?

OOH! Did you find out who wrote him???
The Production of Mass Effect
Kotaku mentions Mac Walters writing Wrex and Garrus for Mass Effect 1. Mac Walters mentions how the process of writing dialogue changes in Mass Effect 2.
* From Lukas Kristjanson via PM, summarized with permission:
Dusty Everman contributed to the writing of the Normandy crew in ME2.

"ME1 was split by planet and character, more or less. I did writing for Kaidan, pretty sure it was Chris and/or Drew who fleshed that out after I was off project closer to release. I did fiddlybits with all of the followers and lots of areas like the Citadel, but I was primarily tasked with the major dialogues on Feros and Virmire. I got to do a little something with Kaidan, Ash, and Wrex on one of those, if I recall correctly.Patrick took over maintenance on Feros and I think Mac and Drew were Virmire."
He makes sure to credit Cookie Everman and Karin Weekes, two editors for Mass Effect, for being the first line of feedback to the writers, helping them polish the writing to make the voices consistent.

I'll try to clean it up later to make it clearer, but Dusty Everman wrote the Normandy crew for Mass Effect 2, like Kelly. Lukas Kristjanson wrote for Kaidan, along with Chris L'Etoile and Drew Karpyshyn.Sialater wrote...
That was a little confusing. Dusty Everman wrote him? Or Lukas Kristjanson?
And can we send him booze as a thank you?

So Lukas wrote both Kaidan *and* Jacob? Interesting...
