I think the loyalty system and suicide mission mechanics were flawed.

Kaidan being sacrificed would be quite the waste.

I can't remember where I read it...a spoiler thread in one of the forums...can't remember if it was in the confirmed or rumor section. As long as it is until release it may not pan out anyway...things change the more they work on the game.

I actually didn't take Kaidan with me very often, especially later in the game. Because of the class I was, he was a bit redundant, and I usually took Tali, Garrus, or Wrex with me.

I varied my party in ME2 depending on the mission. In DA2, I pretty much always used Anders, Fenris, and Varric unless I absolutely HAD to take someone else.

In Mass Effect at first I'd take Kaidan and Ashley on every human and/or rescue-related mission. I figured it would help people to see some friendly alliance faces, either to comfort humans in distress or to give aliens a positive impression of humans. Eventually I realized Ash wasn't really a "people person," and then it became Wrex and Kaidan most of the time.

Whenever we were just on a random planet looking at stuff, I'd usually bring Wrex and Tali. Tali because she still needed to find something for her pilgrimage, and Wrex because he enjoyed just killing some random Mercs or whatever, whereas Kaidan might have felt bad about it. When dealing with a situation where we were just going to have to straight-up kill some dangerous people, I'd usually bring Garrus and Wrex, because they would enjoy it and not feel guilty.

Kaidan and Wrex went with me to the final battle though, of course.

I've had her die at the very end but she was the last one left of those I didn't do missions for. Really hard to achieve...kinda hated seeing Jack die first...kinda liked her...well she'll survive my next one.

I really think those that saved everyone will get the best playthrough...I would think if you have missing squadmates that you just wouldn't get that particular part of the storyline.  I'm going back to get a save with everyone surviving because I'm really interested to see how Kaidan reacts to some of these people...Jack, Samara, Miranda, and Jacob in particular.

I purposely cranked out additional playthroughs just to see how they'll play out in ME3 with assorted characters dead.  However, I still can't work up the heart to try and do a cheat on Kaidan playthrough.  Figure I'll just youtube it when the time comes.

I don't think it would be that much different from not saving everyone. form what I understood, you won;t be able to have everyone as a squadmate, you'd have to make some choices. so if they died? you just made that choice earlier.

as for non loyal characters dying? the way it works in my head canon is that they are distracted to be operating at their full potential and because they are more careless? they die, when they could have lived.

untill I decided that I absolutely had to have ally achievements, my go to team, regardless of the class was Kaidan and Garrus (the commentary is priceless).  then I've learned to seriously apreciate the team of Kaidan and Liara, which is quickly turning into my favorite ME1 combination, becasue they compensate for every short coming I have when it comes to combat and then some.

I figured it'd be something gradual. Kaidan already knows the reapers are a threat so him joining Shepard at the start is a no-brainer, but when the game progresses, there will probably be info that Cerebus is hunting Shepard down. Kaidan will want to know why and depending on Shepard's dialogue responses, there'll probably be some sort of a "I ... was wrong, Shepard" apology once he digests the information. =p Hot make-up sex to ensue before the final mission.

Omg, i finished my faithful femshep play through, i reaaaaally llike Kaidan, and it's so hard not to have him there, when i got to the part where i have to reruit Thane...I was like "please...just call me Siha!" im really torn...like..if i play single shep and i see Kaidan on Horizon i go "i want my hug.." and then he sends  that email..."went out with a doctor for a few "drinks" makes me want to make my femshep cheat on him. with Thane...
