If Shepard and Kaidan don't stay together it won't be solely because of Kaidan, and it won't be because he wants to settle down with a housewife IMO. the man doesn't let go of his emotions easily and doesn't treat relationships casually. If Shepard decides to leave him, he will eventually get over it... some day, he'll try to live his life again and maybe even meet someone new, but I think that as long as Shepard wants him, as long as they are on the same page when it comes to their values and believes - he will stay constant and he will try. I still maintain that his outburst on Horizon and follow up e-mail was first due to shock and then to give Shepard that choice.

Kaidan is career military. I don't see him retiring for a long long while yet, to be honest. he wants to do good, he wants to make a difference, and even when you talk before Ilos, he says that it cannot change anything - they are alliance soldiers first and foremost. He wants to work it out, but he won't compromise his principles, at least old Kaidan wouldn't have. He and Shepard used to share these values. if they still do? they will find a way to work it out.

I can see Shepard and Kaidan going around later as sort of... Alliance-sanctioned problem solvers. Possibly independent contractors, rather than enlisted, so their relationship doesn't set off any warning bells.

Right now my whole ship is basically a giant poster for Galactic unity - well, once you get the few wanted, amoral humans off of it. I sometimes wonder if the Normandy won't become sort of a prototype for a Spectre-alternative problem-solving unit: ships designed by multiple races, containing an inter-species crew, sent to deal with conflicts.  The input of the aliens helps the commander remain unbiased, but they have the same sort of operational freedom that Spectres currently do - though perhaps giving the crewmembers/second in commands a little more actual power.

Since they were founded by Shepard, we could call 'em Flocks.

With LaZorra, I can easily see her settling down for a quiet life with Kaidan. With all she's gone through quiet will seem very appealing. I know I would after saving the galaxy 3x, death & resurrection, and the politics bs and all. Though had none of that happened, I could easily see her as having stayed with the Alliance to eventually make Admiral.

But I very much agree about Kaidan and Ash. I seen them as more big brother/little sister. My opinion on that comes from ManShep version of the Wards scene in ME1. Kaidan kind of scolds Ash for her comment to Shepard.

I disagree.

They're, in my opinion, the perfect example of opposites attract. Kaidan's Paragon ways and Ash's Renegade attitude could clash in all the right ways. They might disagree on a lot of things but I can see Kaidan being willing to listen to what Ash has to say without judging her for it and she certainly seems to respect him enough to make it work.

I am looking forward to some love triangling in ME3. Some mighty good love triangling.

And by looking forward to, I mean dreading and obsessing over.

Kaidan and Miranda?!?!
Just for that i'm going to have to go and kill miri now! :P
And yes i'm evil enough that i smile at Lillith the colonist getting melted every playthrough, teach her to smile at Kaidan!
Mwahahahaha!

(on a sidenote he does look really cute in that pic :))

lol I remember the Lilith hate...and the doctor on the citadel hate...people were out for blood. Miranda and Kaidan just don't work for me...I think her ties to Cerberus would put him off...wouldn't want to see him with anyone other than Shep anyway.

I kind of hate myself right now for this post...

Why, actually, I feel the same. That's why I ask the question. Miranda and Kaidan don't appear to me a great pairing. I try to understand the view of others, but for now I'm not convinced. They don't feel right to me.

It's the same for Kaidan/ Ashley.
I see them like brothers, not a couple, even if shep isn't with Ashley.

When everything is said and done I would expect Kaidan to settle down was a 'normal' woman. I expect Kaidan with a woman in a driven career, doctor, lawyer, businesswoman. A woman who won't gun someone down in cold blood or can go a year without getting blown up. Someone who is going to wait for him back home.

You have summed up my thoughts.

Have to kinda agree with both of you on this...I would lean more towards a Kaidan/Ash pairing than Miranda/Kaidan because I think Kaidan trusts Ash but with Kaidan it's so hard to get him to open up I just don't see being able to do that with Miranda...trusting her wouldn't be easy. Just my opinion.

As for the part about Kaidan settling down with a normal woman...yeah I think that really fits him and it's really hard to see Shep as anything but flying around the galaxy saving everyone but there was that one line to Grunt where she said I won't be doing this forever so who knows how Bioware is going to spin this...maybe some endings will have her continuing doing what she's doing now....maybe some won't.

@ Red and Mizz - I kind of agree and disagree with both views... because war changes you. The view that Kaidan will never retire and Shepard will never stop being Shepard, I have a problem with because ... First, death does change you, so once Shepard has finished with the Collectors and the Reapers ... it will change... plus the fact that After you save the universe... There isn't much that could top that. From Kaidan's point of view, if he gets Shepard back after loosing her to death, is he really going to look at this differently.

Will it work, who knows... In my head it will - in real life it might... depends on who changes and how much. Depends on how intense the feelings were.

Ultimately - it depends on who is holding the pen..

*evil grin* (okay that may or may not be my evil grin.... probably not)

Shep has definitely got to be thinking about what she REALLY wants out of life after dying...and if Kaidan was affected by her death as much as we think he was I would think he'd be thinking along the same lines. I mean I don't think he was thinking after the Normandy went down...I wish Shep had lived so we could kick the Geth, Reapers, etc...I would think it would be more along the lines of I wonder what could have been. Same thing with Shep...your right...Shep's death for both of them would change how they saw life and would make them reassess about what really matters. I could actually see them both retiring and going off into the sunset...sounds corny I know but I'm sappy like that besides Bioware's retiring Shep in a way anyway...her/his story ends and we'll get some new hero.

I think it's up to the player how they envision their Shepard.  Some, I'm sure, absolutely are not the type to settle down.  For me, I've always thought Mia would think that dying once in the line of duty is enough and if she manages to stop the Reaper invasion and live to tell the tale, she's done with battle.  In other words, if there's an ending where Shepard can settle down somewhere with Kaidan and live a quiet life, I will move heaven and hell to get it!

One of my favorite fic's is Chem's After the End.  I could picture the future for my Shepard and Kaidan going along these lines.

That is my favorite overall story to date...that part right at the end where they call Shep...Shepard and Kaidan blurts out Alenko and turns bright red when he realizes what he's just admitted to is priceless. She did a short followup later on about their son.

I am kinda wondering if the background you choose might have something to do with the endings....I could see her continuing with the Alliance if she was a spacer...I mean it's in the blood whereas either colonist or earth-born might be more prone to settling down. Earth-born might want the stability of a family she never had and colonist might want to re-claim what she lost. Just keep hoping those background choices have a little more influence on the game than they have thus far.

personally, I doubt Lilith and Kaidan had anything going on except for working relationship, Miri is NOT and ice queen, in fact we find out that her iciness is merely a facade (if Kaidan can fall in love with a renegade shepard - he could certainly get along with Miranda), and I really cannot see a career soldier feeling satisfied with just retiring after big mission. going on vacation, yeah, everyone needs a break once in a while, but I think he (and for that matter - Shepard) would start feeling restless after a while.

THIS SO MUCH! If there's an ending that even HINTs towards the fact that Shepard and Kaidan will settle down I'lld o anything to get it, because my Shepard doesn't want to keep doing this.

After all she's been through, Jennifer had the hardest time mustering the will to complete the mission, she still has a lot of kinks to work through because of her death, but she decided to put all of it aside until she could atleast defeat the reapers, then it'll be down time, that is if she survives.

I don't think they'd use the same trick twice in the same series, but if it was a choice between Kaidan and any other party member... sorry, I know who would win :D
