Speaking of CDN, I freaking love their obsession with Superman LOL I remember they had this one piece of new way back in 2010 about the 'infant' saved off a planet which blew up and they said he was currently in the local cluster, on earth I think, breathing gases in the same ration as his home planet, oxygen, nitrogen and Krypton LOL

Going from my many years of fandom exposure in general, no one here in the Kaidan thread's really scary. Be particularly driven at times, yeah, but not scary by any stretch.
Now, should anyone start talking as if Kaidan's a real person, say they're married to him on an astral plane, teach thier kids to call him daddy when they see his picture, build a shrine as if to worship him in a religious manner, or gather real blood to attempt to make a homonculous of him...then that's in the scary zone.
And yes, I've seen each of those examples crop up in assorted fandoms.

lol I agree, of most of the fans out there, we're fairly normal. Passionate and proud, yes. Crazy zealous and out of control, not so much. Good job guys on not being COMPLETELY bat**** crazy.

Nah, don't worry...as long as you're not trying to breed a Kaidan then no, you're just the perfect kind of crazy for this place

....annnnnnd now I'm imagining a group of women calling themselves the Alenkowives. I am simultaneously hilaritized and horrified by the thought; that was a particular brand of fandom crazy I'd forgotten about, to be honest.
I've spent so much time in the Mass Effect fandom that I've become acclimated to the fact that most people here (and especially Kaidan fans, from my experience) are pretty tame and it's caused me to forget about other fandoms I'm only obliquely associated with and the related crazy that goes along with those fandoms.

In truth, the really crazy subsets of fandom do tend to give one a much heightened appreciation for the rational fans. At least as much as you can look at them and be able to praise the divine that you're not like that. Throw in taking a few psych classes and you REALLY appreciate the rational fans.
I do have to admit, having grown up around seeing how crazy fandoms can get and the resulting parental talks to deshock me did make the eventual puberty sex talk the easiest one my parents did.
Though...with all these posts we've probably cursed the Alenkowives into existance.

I find that there's often a decent grammar to sanity ratio in a fandom. It's also funny to see the different moods and tendencies of different threads and subforum sections. Must... stop... sociology-ing.

I've never really been a part of specific character/writer/fictional universe fandom until Mass Effect, so I have nothing to compare to and I'll be honest, sometimes what I see from others (and occasionally myself) makes me wonder about our sanity. I suppose venturing out and checking out other fandoms might help put things in perspective...

Just... just be careful. I've seen some things, Leah. Terrible things. Things that cannot be unseen.
That said, there is something about Mass Effect that produces a sweet kind of madness. I know I've never been this crazy over any video game, even other Bioware or Bioware-like titles. The level of actual roleplay and storytelling here is unprecedented, and the format gives players an amount of narrative freedom accompanied by shared structure that really makes for some interesting creative potential. I've still never written any real fanfic, (unless you count plot summaries of schoolyard Sailor Scout make-believe), but Mass Effect has something about it that lights the brainfires more than pretty much anything else.

Thankfully google's got a safe search option if one's feeling a bit adventurous. Though for a reasonably safe condensation of how bad fandom can be, there's always skimming the Fandom ****** wiki.
But I do have to agree, so far what I've seen on Kaidan fanart, it's nothing that'll have you wanting to gouge out your eyes and bathe the sockets with industrial strength cleaner. Some fanfic I've come across hasn't been quite my cuppa but compared to others, still not enough to disturb me. And that's including browsing around the more adult archives.
