Here's a rather odd question.
I joined the Mass Effect fanbase due to the sequel celebration for Dragon Age II - and thus only started playing Mass Effect 2 because that was the game I had. But, somehow, I found out about Kaidan....and the rest is history. I'm sure you all understand
Now, I've heard that Mass Effect 3 comes out later this year, which, if I wasn't so terrible at shooting combat in this game, I might be moreabout. Anyways, I heard that Kaidan/Ashley will be returning.
In my current ME2 game, since I never played ME, I had Kaidan at the beginning and stuff, but I know there's unlikely to be the romanctic dialogue and whatever since its not an import game. But could I start that romance in ME3?
QUESTION: Has anyone heard whether or not the romance for Kaidan in ME3 require an import from ME1 with a romance activated, or could they be started from scratch? Cause I might have to go buy ME1 before I get really into ME2 then to make sure I play through both games and get my desired ME3 outcome (yes, I am a complete sucker for rpg romances. I blame Bioware entirely)

I have a feeling it won't be, but just thought I'd ask. The fangirls of the romanceable characters are renowned for finding out things no-one else knows!I think I will try to get ME1 soon anyway - maybe once I'm more used to shooter combat XD
And yeah, I've seen a couple romantic scenes on youtube (thus my sudden fangirl love for Kaidan, haha) and Joker is totally being a ****block on purpose

Oh yeah, I play most games on the PC - I was thinking about buying it anyway, which I think is the main reason I've stalled so much in playing ME2. My younger brother is easily halfway through (being as evil as he possibly can, lol) whereas I haven't even left Omega yet - and that was the first place I went to, haha.
I would attempt to change the game settings to think I had romanced Kaidan, but I'm not too good with computers. It took me about two hours and a lot of help from my dad to get around that damned awc.dll error in order to start playing it in the first place!(and then had to do it again two days later on a different computer. Such rage)
I don't really want to get through ME2 and then have to go back and play both again just to import a character across. I tend to import my first characters. Buying ME1 it is! (bioware already owns my soul, what's a few more dollars XD).
Better story? Better gameplay? Oh, you had me at Kaidan

Less shooting? Oh yay. I was told adepts were like the "mages" of the game, and so that's who I'd picked for ME2. The less shooting I have to deal with, the more likely Shepard makes it out alive, haha. (Mages/adepts might be squishable, but they also have a much higher chance of making enemies squishable if I'm controlling them!)
Like I said, I haven't played ME2 much so I'm sure it wouldn't be too jarring for me to go backwards. Still getting used to using the mouse as the camera rather than just the keyboard - curse you and your addictiveness, DA2!
Now that's my idea of an Easter egg hunt.Aslanasadi wrote...

Kaidan is straight in 1 and straight in 2, why the hell would they make him bi in 3. They can do that with other characters. I wasn't happy when they did it in DA2. It's unnecessary to ruin a character by making him all of a sudden gay. I am not anti gay. I am anti Kaidan gay.

Unless my family members who are bi have been doing it wrong, it's normal for a bi person to go through times in thier life preferring one gender over another. So it would fit for a theoretical bi Kaidan.
However after experiencing the romance dialogs in ME2 and hearing the assorted kvetching about DA2's handling of things, I really don't have confidence in Bioware's handling this in a competent manner.

Not to tell you what to do. But I'd suggest playing through (or heck just watching youtube vids) of the romances yourself so you can draw your own conclusions. (I say this as a completely neutral party). I personally found them to be fine. (If a little scare on content but in DA2 everything was scare on content (hello repeating maps.)
And with that have a nice day.
And yes Kaidan is very sexy![]()

I do have other issues with the DA franchise so I've not bothered with further purchases on anything past DA:O. I do wish things had been otherwise. However, my fiance did buy DA2 with a crap ton of DLC and from watching his screen, so far I've not really been impressed though he's enjoying the game very much. I did peruse the DA2 forums just to read around for the hell of it and saw there were some complaints.
Combined, I just don't think the writers could handle it well though then again they might prove me wrong if they do go that route.

What Fire and Teen said. At the least I would do what Teen said and download a save, then mod Shepard to look like your Shepard... but like Fire said... If you want your choices to count... get it and play it yourself... believe me.... It's worth it, He's worth it!!!!

Calm down, no need to start yelling at each other, I'm pretty sure Red didn't mean anything.
But yeah, Kaidan in an egg...boy I want that

Initially, both Kaidan and Ashley were suppose to be romancable in ME1 and some time after the dialogue had been recorded, Bioware changed their minds.
This still irritates me occassionally.
I am hoping for a gay relationship option in ME3. It'd be better, in my opinion, if Kaidan was one of the possibilities.

Most places have ME1 on greatest hits right now, making it about $19 or so. I know Steam has it for $19. To get the full story and experience of ME, it is definitely worth the buy.
