I'll probably be lynched for saying this but in my mind ME2 would be better without the romance options. They're a little trite as you've all said and not really integral to the plot.

I love Garrus to bits but I'm perfectly happy with him and my Sheps being best friends. I romanced him once to see how it went and while it was sweet, it was very shallow. The time span on ME2 seems a lot shorter than ME1 to me - maybe that's why.

Eh, anyway my opinion for what its worth.

I kind of feel the same way, after I dunno how many play throughs I still do not have the paramour achievement for ME2. For 2 reasons, 1: I have no idea which one I want, none of them stand out any more then the others. Maybe Thane I guess, I'm a sucker for tragedies and the whole 6 months to live is pretty tragic. 2: I haven't been able to get through ME1 without romancing Kaidan. It's not that he ninja-romances me, it's cause I can't help myself. I'm weak... Also I will not, can not cheat on Kaidan.

A lot of people think they are going to do
away with all squadmates as well, but I don't see that happening either.
It would just be more work and nullify a large part of ME2.

That doesn't make any sense, between ME1 and ME2 you have 15 squadmates! Given you might have accidently got most of them killed. Why I love ME1 story a bit more then ME2 story was you only spent maybe an hour recruiting your team. And you only recruitied as you went through the story. ME1 was about chasing Saren, ME2 was about recruiting and building alliances to stop the Collectors and most likely beyond.

ME2 is starting to feel like a really long prologue for ME3.  I'm wondering if we'll bring whoever's left of our team to it, perhaps add some of the loose ends from ME1 (Kaidan (or Ashley), Wrex in some capacity, Liara in her new role).  Then start out to fight the Reapers without any need to assemble a team.

I'm sure there's a logic drop in there somewhere but that's how its looking to me.

Yea, the way I see it, is that surviving members will carry over as your squadmates for ME2, maybe 1 or 2 new ones at most.

Kaidan/Ashley rejoin in some compacity, I hope as a squadmate, but I don't know that it will happen for sure. At least as presence on board the ship and in a manner you can converse and interact  with.

Liara in a similar way. She will be using her powers as SB to help get additional troops and support for Shep. Maybe she will also be a presence on the ship representing those troops and able to be interacted with.

Wrex/Wreav will be joining as a representative for the Krogans, and through some means you will gain them as allies, and Wrex/Wreav will be present much like Kaidan/Ash and Liara.

At least that is what I am hoping for. XD

@AmyBA re the Krogans - I keep the genophage cure because I have a sneaking suspicion its going to come in handy....

It would be nice to see the VS as a full team member but if not at least with a major role to play in proceedings.

Yea, I think they will be pretty important in ME3, I think they will be crucial in getting the alliance to back Shep a little more. :D

I always have Mordin hold on to the cure too, thinking it will be of use in the future. Better safe than sorry!

I really do hope that Kaidan will be a squadmate again, but I think it will be unlikely. I think him, Liara, and Wrex will be out doing their own thing trying to support Shepard. Liara with information, Wrex with shock troops, and Kaidan with the Alliance... or sex. :3

Haha, I've joked that Bioware is going to troll fans and announce that there will be no romances in ME3, because fans are too excitable and can't handle it.  But I don't *really* think they would go that route, in the last part of a trilogy.

Not having a romance in ME2 deepened the story in some ways, I believe -- at least for my Shepard, who was feeling isolated and miserable.  But I wouldn't take away anyone else's option...and I do look forward to a reunion with Kaidan, even if there isn't a romance scene.  If I can just repair the relationship, and have him on my Shepard's team for the final battle, I'll be happy.  I can leave the rest for after the end of the story.

I'm just really a sucker for a good love story.  And Kaidan is an awesome leading man.  Hopefully Bioware will deliver in the end.

I'm not getting my hopes up for Kaidan/Ashley returning as squadmates, but I wouldn't be complaining if they did. My biggest fear either way would be Bioware making their dialogue pretty much interchangeable, with really minor differences, like it was on Horizon.

In completely unrelated news, I just killed Kaidan on Virmire for the first time, and now I feel like a bad person...

My brother gets annoyed at me with all my Kaidan talk. I keep telling him it's cause he is Shepard's love-interest, her leading man, her co-star however you want to say it.

I would like a satisfying end to their relationship. Happily ever after if possible. Bittersweet Romeo and Juliet it not. Or at very least old war buddies who stood together at a pivotal moment in time.

I tried doing it. I sat there for like 5 minutes psyching myself up to do it. All i had to do was push a button. But i couldn't. Not even for Garrus.

Bioware has succeeded very well in twisting our fragile human hearts into caring about that character.:crying:

I've actually sacrificed him twice on Virmire so far, out of 13 playthroughs.

One was on my renegade maleShep who was romancing Ashley, and another on a renegade femShep who was romancing Liara.

In general I don't do it, because liking Kaidan aside and feeling bad for doing it, in ME2 when Ashley dies she is given a lot of recognition and heroic awards. When Kaidan dies, hes barely acknowledged in ME2 and it just given just a simple fund in his name for biotic children. It didn't seem very fair and quite unfitting, so I always kill Ash on the ME2 imports.

Poor Jacob had such raw potential, you know like the Hindenburg.

LoL - a brilliant comparison, gave me a great laugh - the only one today, actually.

Let's see what they make out of it in ME3 though. Hope Jacob will be a decent buddy and they better not have my Shepard talk to him like she was in heat, especially when Kaidan is going to stand right next to her.

This.

It was actually Shepard's behavior that kept me from considering Jacob's romance even before I saw the priiizzeee line on youtube.

Re Jacob - I really don't have anything against him but I remember the first (and last) time I chatted to him post loyalty, I was grumbling at the screen "Hey! Shepard! Stop leaning on that damn table!". Now the poor guy is stuck in the armoury with no one to talk to. Pity Bioware tried to push him on me, otherwise he'd probably quite a nice character.

I actually gave him a chance for once and went with it. It gave me the chance to choose between romance or not and i chose to not. Then we totally got into a female bromance. It was kinda awesome. We started doing a handshake hug and everything. Now Jacob and I are best buds.

Since ME3 is advertised as a stand alone game i think they will add new char and new LI as well.

I hope not tho and i think many fans, regardless of what LI they chose, feel the same.

I did the same thing, and really like him now (had to make myself talk to him before). I think it's the combination of him being really dismissive and Shep being really pushy that just makes me cringe. For half the game I'm worried that he might file sexual harassment charges, and then suddenly he loves me?

You actually get the impression that he's relieved when Shep stands him up, whereas Kaidan... didn't take it so well. Image IPB

Lol, reading thru this thread really makes me feel good because it lets me know that I'm not the only one who doesn't have Paramour achievement in ME2 ^_^ Every time I want to start a new Shep, I would often say this to myself : "New LI! I'll try to romance a new LI, maybe Garrus, this time!"
I guess my resolve was not that strong and my Shep just can't restrain herself from talking to Kaidan in order to avoid romancing him.

So ME2 universe is a lonely universe or my Shep: She may got a bigger bada** SR2, better armor, sexier sniper rifle, the respect and admiration of her crew / buddies but... without Kaidan, the whole thing felt pretty empty :(

Btw: I kinda like Jacob, maybe because he's the only one who called Shep "Commander", so we instantly become buddies. I just wished he has a friendship track on it :bandit:That wish also applies to Tali and Garrus who seemed to be more interested in cleaning the engine & calibrating guns :bandit:. I felt kinda dissapointed that they didn't mention anything about Kaidan after the event on Horizon. I mean c'mon, it's not like they wouldn't know that there is something going on between Shep and Kaidan back then.
