I believe jeweledleah is right, the only reason ManShep magically turns into a woman with Kaidan is because the animation for male on male was never written. As to why Hale and Meer recorded same sex dialogue. I don't know. I still think it was just a recording test. But then why add it in game? I've done coding (not in games but for other medias) and you don't accidently add things like that. You try to keep the program as streamlined as possible, still I guess it could happen if you are import files in bulk.

But honestly it doesn't matter to me who is in Kaidan's bed as long as he continues to kick ass.

Then she gets her wicked way with him! I replayed ME the other day to have a liara romance and turning down poor kaidan was soooo difficult, i was gonna say ash in this playthrough too, but i just couldn't leave kaidan to die. I feel really sorry for ash, she dies in all my playthroughs

That's the other thing that throws me, I've done coding work too and you always want it streamlined so it's easier to fix any errors that pop up in testing since you're not sifting through so much.

As far as the topic goes, I don't particularly care what they end up doing since my canon's my canon.  Though with how some on both sides of the debate act, I really wouldn't be surprised if Bioware pulled all the romances out and said 'Since none of you can play nice, no one gets nice things'.

And as far as thread topic goes, I did break down and pick up a copy of the GI.  The scans really didn't do it justice.    Maybe it's just me, but from the picture it does look like Kaidan's got some Italian/Sicilian going on with his hair and colouring.

I've seen it, yes. Nothing special - it just uses the same animations as the one for female Shepard (if someone used a cam hack during this cutscene, it's likely that Kaidan will be kissing male Shepard's chin). Kaidan never recognizes that Shepard is male.

I can see romance being less of a focus, I mean after just 2 games there is a lot of possibilities. 5 romances per gender, not counting if they add more romances for ME3. That is at least 9 scenes (Liara's can be shared) to animated and voice. Bioware knows we love of LIs but the romances are a sub-plot. I doubt we will see the return of the steamy ME1 love scene. It is going to be interesting to see how they are going to handle the romances.

We have talked before on Kaidan's race. I think he is just bascially a mutt, with no clear ethnicity. That would fit with canon. The books talk about that genetic traits like blonde hair blue eyes are all but gone. Darker skin, dark hair and eyes would be more dominate. But yeah, in the GI and before I always thought Kaidan had a bit of Italian, among others.

as for coding -I was reading an interesting article the other day, on myths and legends of video games, http://slumz.boxden....-myths-1533652/ and they accidentally copied the folder with southpark short onto a game disk. I wouldn't be surprised if bioware just plunked and entire finished voice over folder onto disks, instead of spending extra time trying to find couple of extra lines of dialogue that didn't really make it into final game. its the same with ME2 - there are some cut dialogue lines still in game files that you can find (including hilarious funny bumps line from groundskeeper ) why they recorded some of the extra lines, including romance lines we can only speculate about.

as for romance scenes..DA2 works very nicely with fade to blacks and those scenes post dialogue I believe might be the same length or shorter then ME2 versions. which is totally fine with me, personally. I'd rather they put in extra dialogue then extra animations (not to mention if ME3 does have same sex romance, shorter scenes that are mostly a kiss are much easier to animate in a way that works with both genders, then something more involved).

DA2 love scene was like that for a reason. Everything you see in DA2 is being told by Varric to Cassandra. He wouldn't go into intimate detail with the Seeker. Nor would Hawke tell him what all sexy detail that happened in the bedroom.

ME is a different case, we are watching it as it happens. I'm not saying I'm a perv who watches these scenes with a cigarette in my mouth saying "yeah baby just like that" But some late night TV safe sex works fine with me. I just want a little more confirmation that when the screen fades to black I know Shepard is getting it on with Kaidan.

I remember noticing that Anderson has a picture of Kaidan on his desk. At first I assumed he'd have a picture of Ash if she was alive, but nope, it's apparently always Kaidan. I thought that was funny "Nice picture... Kaidan gave me one like that to put on my desk after we... HEY!"

The ME1 and DA2 love scenes are actually about the same length, while the ME2 ones are quite a bit shorter. I don't really think the length matters so much as what happens in that time. Even ME1 fades out so I definitely don't have a problem with that, it's what happens before the fading out that I hope lives up to it's potential.

It's just that this our last experience with these characters and these romances and I want it to be amazing. For me the most important part of a story is the character and the development of his/her relationships. I have become quite attached to Kaidan and Shepard's romance, their wondeful characters that I absolutely adore and I just want to see the conclusion of their story given the TLC that the building of the relationship did. Yeah I want the story to be epic and I have no doubt that it will be, but that also includes the romance for me. Kaidan and Shepard have been apart for so long, I really hope that they didn't put us through Horizon and no DLC or mention of Kaidan, for some mediocre reunion. Maybe my expectations are high but that's only because I know what they are capable of.
