Would people prefer Kaidan to be a bit more Han Solo/Kirk or should he go all gruff and serious like Solid Snake?
He seemed a bit humorless in ME 1
Humorless? I've been wondering lately, Kaidan has a great sense of humor, a little dry and sarcastic, but it's there for sure. Sadly he has not much fans, and not many players take him along on missions. This is my personal favorite for now, it often pays off to mix up "upper" and "lower" dialogs with him to know him better, many people may just miss that during the gameplay, and/or totally miss that in Sbarge's delivery (this is where the "Carth" card comes up). I can understand that, but after few playthroughs, I'm amazed that so much time since the game came out passed, and people still don't know or don't want to know Alenko better.
I'm not a fan or ST, so "Kirk" is a person unknown to me, but as far as I know Snake, he always had something funny to say to the situation, stupid handshakes with Hal, he liked women... Still, this concept doesn't fit Kaidan whatsoever, if his personality changes, my intuition says it won't be like that.
@Jho: about the Sbarge part. It's true. Sbarge does a great job reading lines and interpreting emotions, even with limited facial animations in ME1, he gave something to Kaidan, that draws me to him every time. I haven't feel that way till I started my 3d or 4th playthrough, and now I'm at 6th or 7th, just to keep saves with all dialogs with him. I've recorded few, and tried few new options I've never heard before.
The fact that I'm a hopeless romantic doesn't "help". First I liked him as LI, then I liked him as squaddie and as a "whole". Sbarge adds his talent and his lovely voice to that, and BAM, I'm drowning in a fangirl goo puddle.
