To be honest..none of the currently existing male love interests would really fit for M/M imo. The reason is that literally all of them had history with women already and all of their romances are quite tailored to females/female Shepard in the dialog.
Kaidan in particular...there's much pointing to the romance being with a woman. There's the story of Rana (the girl he had a crush on or a relationship with), his comments about Liara, the asari, the dancers in Chora's Den, reading novels where the main character explores space in search of a beautiful woman, "it's been a long time since a woman's made me feel..."
Generally speaking, the romances with the female love interests to tend to be far more gender neutral.
I'm at least a little skeptical of their ability to maintain character continuity and possibly opening up pre-existing love interests to the other gender.
Not that it's impossible to do it well, but I haven't fully liked how Mass Effect has approached certain things.
Horizon being one example.
Agreed. I worry about how they will handle this. If it's the whole DA2 approach all of a sudden, I am going to be disappointed. If they can create a completely new alien race for women, why can't they create new LI's for s/s romances?
Is it so horribly wrong to have romances that are for straight men/women only or gay only?
Every character can change...but in this case, the change will only occur by a certain approach? Where's the credibility in that? I see Kaidan in a certain light, have known him for years now and he's my Shepard's only LI throughout a trilogy...but if I decide to go through the same trilogy as a male Shepard, Kaidan's going to change on me between ME2 and ME3 and only then?
Kaidan won't show any interest in a male Shepard for 2/3rd of the trilogy but if you come on to him in ME3, he'll do a 180 and be open to it with what...hidden feelings for male Shepard for alll these years?
I don't know....not a fan of the 'cameleon' characters like in DA2 that seem to change depending on your character. It feels strange somehow, even if you don't notice it unless you play both genders. I just prefer all different characters that cater to different gamers, this switching around feels like some bad Soap.
In the end I won't notice it in my playthrough and it will have no affect on my game, but it will affect my perception of a character.
I'm glad there will be s/s romances for the gay gamers though, don't get me wrong..took them a while to give us women romances too (and even equally as much)...I just hope it's handled well. If that's the case anyway, since Hudson's tweets are vague to say the least
