Wow even in the comic Kaidan uses an assault rifle lol Or should I say Kaiden...<_<
It feels as if Bioware is following its fanbase and aren't investing too many resources into the least popular characters from ME1. It's as if Liara was 'salvaged' and given a PR boost to give her a fighting chance against the ME2 girls, whereas Kaidan and Ash were just 'left behind' with the mandatory cameo to make good on the promise BW made about the romance continuing throughout the trilogy.
It's why we see a glimpse of the Tali romance scene in the PS3 trailer I guess, she IS the most popular female LI. Bioware is pouring resources into characters best received by their customers, which is logical. They can say all characters are treated equally but we know that's not the case at all.

I'm glad there's a little portrait of Kaidan in the comic at least, it could have been much worse I suppose. But I'm not sure what to think anymore where his 'big' role in ME3 is concerned.

Oh well, maybe this thread at least shows Bioware Kaidan does have a solid fanbase but I doubt it will have any influence for some reason. Gonna try to be optimistic while waiting for ME3 :)

I understand that it can be a term of endearment, but it's the only description people get of Kaidan in the comic. It provides a very false impression that he's some n00b and that he doesn't get the whole military/mission thing.

I think my main concern is that there are some important story details and background information for some important choices being left out, as well as some plot inconsistency. Not sure how to feel about it yet.

If it was written by Mac Walters then that explains it... because the comics he put out suffer from a lot of the same problems. It seems he doesnt even try to follow the story in game half the time, as his stuff veers so much from what actually happens.

Pfft silly Sheploo, I wonder what the comic would have been like if Femshep had something to say about it all...our Femsheps.

We received a distress call from Eden Prime from an Alliance patrol that had been attacked. Anderson sent me down to take care of the mess. Along with me were Corporal Richard Jenkins and Staff Lieutenant Kaidan Alenko.

Jenkins was a good kid, naive and eager to do his job and make us proud. He had family on Eden Prime and he was visibly shaken, but he never complained.

Alenko was a dead-ass sexy man and eventually our paths would cross in the most delicious manner imaginable. And by that, I mean that he would **** the ****ing **** out of my ****ing ****.

That is so twisted and not at all what I was expecting when I started reading.

I wouldn't get too upset about them calling Kaidan a kid, I actually like it.

I know for me, I call anyone I consider a close friend/pal/peer a kid, even those older than me.

MeOnlyRed for instance, shes been my friend for...14 years now? Shes older than me, I still refer to her as kid, just because we have a close friendship. Same for one of our mutual male friends. Hes been like a brother to us for a long time, and hes 2 years older, and I also still refer to him as a kid.

I think for Shep, when Kaidan is in the friend zone, they are good pals. But not only even that, Kaidan looks up to Shep quite a bit. I think its pretty fitting that Shep would refer to him as kid.

Wow we have been friends that long...holy crap I still haven't scaried you away. Okay so I can get the 'kid' thing a little better now. It was still kind of awkward maybe for the solo reason of the way ManShep says it. I would like to hear FemShep's version to see what the difference it. She might call Ashley the 'kid' and Kaidan the 'leveled head biotic/tech expert'. I mean there has to be a female version, right? Or there won't be a Kaidan romance option at all.

As for them misspelling Kaidan's name. I didn't even noticed til you guys said something. I was to busy yelling at ManShep to save Kaidan so I could see more of him comic verison. Maybe it wasn't an accident. Kaidan's name might be spelled differently depending on what country you are in. (Trying to be positive) I know in FF9 Zidane's name was also spelled Jitan.

Just think of it this way it could have been a lot worst. Both Kaidan and Ashley were shown as Shepard's squadmates throughout the whole comic. I see that as a major plus for them.

There really is no point getting mega wound up about this. At least there was a choice, so at least some of the PS3 players will pick the VS which means there still need to be a resolution of sorts for both options. All I'm saying is the end is in sight now, if they mess it up sure I'll be mad but I'm not gonna have a fit until they do.

I was never that hopeful for VS DLC on the first place but they said the VS was an important part of the story. If they've had a story outline from the start I don't see that changing massively regardless of fan input, it would be too much work. Sure they've stuck in the fan service romances but they were hardly deep or well thought out. The fact that both Ash and Kaidan were portrayed throughout the comic as squadmates reinforces the fact they're important.

Will we get the ending we want? *shrug* Who knows.

Am I gonna work myself up about something that may never happen? Nope.

Am I gonna be pissed at BW if Kaidan gets a 30 second cameo? Most definitely!

Yes, this kills me everytime I see is Kaiden. I really would like to know which Bioware intended for him to use.

I again am curious if this is Mac Walters like I think it is, because as I said before, he seems to make a lot of errors and has a lot of problems with continuity every time he writes something outside of the game...

Wow.  Genesis is terrible.  I didn't even know I had expectations for it, but it certainly did a good job of letting them down.  And if that's how Shepard gives his reports, well... no wonder no one believes him.

I get the impression from interviews, etc, that Mac Walters wants to tell the story he wants to tell, with no real interest within the greater framework he's been given.  So instead of adhering to canon like a good fanfic author would, he changes canon to suit his story's needs.

From what I hear, this may be a common issue among comic industry writers, since long comic runs can become so spread out over time that the little details get lost amidst the work of many, many writers.

Which... yeah, that's part of the problem I've had with ME2 and the comics to begin with.  Mass Effect isn't that old, and it should be easy to summarize and follow up with all the little details intact.  It just feels like they choose not to, to tell the story "it should have been" or "they now prefer" or whatever.

I don't know if it's wholly his fault, but I don't have a lot of faith in ME3, for Kaidan or for anything else, following that understanding.  I hope that I'm totally mistaken, but....  :crying:

Ups, with this comic introduction the PS3 player will not be able to recognize Kaidan on Horizon...

A little creative freedom for the comic writers/drawers is ok, but the players should be able to identify the characters of the game and not only because of the armor that they are wearing...

This is how I feel as well. And if BioWare can't even be bothered to spell Kaidan's name correctly these days then I don't want to know what this "important role" in ME3 comes down to.

I allowed myself to tweet to Christina (maybe a wrong staff member, but she always seemed a reasonable person) about the name, I will understand if she won't reply anyway.

This comics give super short description of Kaidan. Especially compared with "as beautiful as intelligent" Ms. T'Soni. My only hope is that in femShep's case he won't be "good kid" anymore - because Shepard definitely didn't land on Eden Prime with Mordin's assistant ("good kid, but naive")

*snip*

Why do you think they are least popular? I think this thread with all of your dedicated and amazing artwork and projects shows how popular Kaidan is and not everyone who likes Kaidan is someone who likes to write in a forum, so there are surely many "silent" Kaidan fans out there. Bioware must be really blind if they think that Kaidan isn't popular.

But for the people who have only ME2 and not ME1 it is not easy to grow for the ME1 characters as they have only short cameos in the game. A Kaidan and Ashley DLC will surely help PS3 and other players without ME1 to get to know and to like them better. The Liara DLC revived Liaras popularity too - and I know from myself that when I spend with a character more time (because I take him/her with me on missions) I like this character more than in the beginning when I took other characters with me and left this one behind on the Normandy. With a DLC that is focussed on a character (like LotSB was focussed on Liara) you spend more time with this person and this helps to like them more.

But it is really sad that there wasn't already a statement from Bioware that the next DLC will be a Kaidan and Ashley DLC, it is really about time for that.

Then I am really wondering how they get these statistics. Does it count how many players stayed loyal with their Shepards in ME2? This can't be taken serious, because players like to test different options and with the short Horizon cameo it is understandable if players tend to try the other LIs. But that doesn't mean that with ME3 or a Kaidan/Ashley DLC people will play ME1 or ME2 again to revive the romance with Kaidan or Ashley. And with the interpretation of statistics one has to be quite careful (I hope Bioware knows this too).

But we know that Bioware watch the fanbase - so they can easily see that their statistics cannot be really taken serious and that the players want to see more of Kaidan and Ashley.

I don't give a lot about statistics...And just here you can see, at least imo that the Kaidan/Ashley fan base is still growing...
