All it takes is one look at those eyebrows to know it's Kaidan!

Quick question: Was Kaidan born and raised in Singapore or in Vancouver?
I don't see why it couldn't be both. With how commuting's evolved in the MEverse, I can see Kaidan being born in either place, do some growing up there and moving elsewhere.

With a father in the military that could mean he could have grown up in any number of places. I like to think that he was born in Singapore and didn't end up in Vancouver until his teens. He never says his father was with the Alliance or one of Earth's country militaries. Canadian's military maybe? For some reason I get the impression that he pretty much always lived on Earth at least until he went to BAat.
The way he mentions his father having served in contrast to his joining the Alliance makes me suspect his father was Alliance.
Personally, I suspect his father retired slightly before or around the time Kaidan was born (at any rate, he seems to have retired by First Contact, which was at most when Kaidan was ... around six?). His mother could have been in Singapore waiting for his father to come home or seeing him off (if his father was with the fleet), or his father could have been stationed there.
Either way, he could have been born in Singapore (or any number of places - on the way back home, for example) and they moved a short time after or they could have moved before he was born.

And it takes one look at hairstyle to know it's Kaidan. And it takes one look to the filename (Kaidan-Shepard Liara).bluedolphin wrote...

Going further, it's logical to check old squaddies first and understand that from three human males it's not Zaeed and definitely not Jacob. But people see what they want to see, and now everyone is curious about Vega.
About Kaidan's father: as I recall, Kaidan sighs when says his father was glad to know his son enlisted, what made me suppose his father has died to events of ME1.

In the Codex it explains that human biotics are treated with various levels of mistrust and suspicions by other humans. Half the human squad mates you have are biotics yet you see very little actual hatemongering. You get hint about it from a quick comment Kaidan says about Biotics being registered. And a couple ME1 side missions. But in ME2 Biotics are almost celebrated. Then again we are seeing it from a Cerberus point of view.
That is one thing I would really like to see touched on in ME3. I'm sure its not at the level of hate that mages are in DA. But I still hope it is explored more.

According to one of the books, Conatix spread a lot of disinformation in order to separate kids from their families. A lot of that stigma was never cleared up at all, so humans pretty much still believe a bunch of lies about biotics in general.
It does almost seem like it was dropped as a plot point, though. Maybe it'll be back?

All of this speculation really makes me want to learn more about the Alenkos...we've got a pretty good idea about Ashley's family, especially if you took the time to talk to her and learn some interesting tid-bits about each of her sisters, now I want to know more about our beloved Kaidan's fam. *wishful thinking* Especially if we're going to be going to Vancouver...which may end up very badly....
