Actually, I was just jumping in on here to announce that I updated my Shepard Chronicles. But I love this question and have to answer.

At first, Kimbri just saw Kaian as a generic marine (although his voice did catch her ear the first time she heard it). He was competent but a little naive. So she underestimated him--especially due to his quiet nature. His little slip in talking to Ashley on the Citadel she found cute, but fed into that whole naive thing.

But then she started taking him along on missions--not because he was cute but because she started to realize what a versatile and extensive skill set he had. She started to watch him--not in a romantic way (she generally is attracted to fairer complected men) but to learn more about this soldier that she was coming to rely upon more heavily with every mission. The more she watched, the more she grew to respect him as a soldier and as a man. He had a solid set of ethics and was willing to offer his opinion, but in a way that was helpful and not judgmental. However, he could also listen to reasonable arguments and would take them into consideration, not just reject them because they didn't fit his preconceived notions. He seemed to care about her wellbeing as a person, not just the mask of the CO. He saw beyond that in her.

At the same time she observed his combat skills, sometimes falling back to just observe her team in action with a part of her mind. What she found there was impressive. This quiet, meek man was an utter powerhouse with his biotics and tech skills. He could take out small bunkers of geth before she even could finish running down the hallway. He could simultaneously lift a Collosus into the air and then overload it, making into a twisted pile of metal without barely breaking a sweat. Yet he never bragged, never strutted or any of the other typical behaviors she was used to observing in men that were a fraction as powerful as her lieutenant. He just intrigued her.

She couldn't help it. She grew to respect and admire him a little every day she worked with him until one day she caught herself admiring how incredibly hot he looked when his biotics flared as he tossed enemies across the battlefield.

She could trust him implicitly, and he wasn't just a soldier she had to look after. He became a true team mate to her, a helpmate to her--someone that could shoulder some of the burden for her when it became too heavy. His devotion--to the Alliance, to doing what was right, to the mission and to her captured her completely.

Funny, I was thinking this morning that I would have to try to delineate this at some point in these messages that Kimbri is writting throughout the events of ME2. So you may see these ideas again there.

April, your work is great. The previous one you posted was great for the facial and hair details. But this one I like better because it evokes so much emotion. Thanks for sharing.

Aw, thank you, I'm really glad you think so, that's what I was going for. I'll try to put some more detail on the next one.

I love this!  Esp since Shepard closely resembles my Kimbri   Very cool!

Made me kinda annoyed - especially after they embraced. :<

It didn't make me annoyed.  It made me heartbroken.  And wishing for Shepard to have a paragon or renegade interrupt.  I felt roped into dialogue and a course that I didn't want--that I would not have at all chosen.

I hate it EVERY time Kaidan walks away from Shepard.  I always feel so ill.

BTW--I updated R&R.  Its a fic about them working out their differences.

@ Ruby...well, if you ever like to join our random chats you are always welcome...Night and I discuss a lot about ME and Kaidan, but also other random stuff ^^ .
It's hard to wait for ME3 atm...lol...but well, I use the time to finally try some more classes and get everything done for ME3.
Two days ago I was again on Horizon, it's still an awful situation, but I made my peace with it ^^.
At least I gave him a reason to yell at my Shep, because this time I started with the renegade option, which says something like : "Our reunion has to wait, I'm with Cerberus" ...might be not the exactly words, but pretty close...lol...actually I didn't expect her to say this, but rather something harsher about being dead....oh, well...^^
